BBC HATES Patriotism. Calls to Diversify the Proms & Remove "Rule Britannia" are "Ignorant & Stupid" 

I'm with Rafe Heydel-Mankoo. We're expected to indulge in the celebrations of various minorities but not allowed to celebrate our own traditions.

These horrible left wingers make me so angry.

I'm a Dane and an anglophile. It's very sad to see England losing itself. Not that we are doing much better in Denmark.

What is wrong with celebrating our heritage . Far too many of these self entitled " experts " trying to tell us what to do and think . The proms is not my cup of tea , but , that does not prevent me celebrating my heritage in other ways . I certainly would not wish the proms to be changed just to suit an agenda . English and proud of this once great country .

87% of the population is of Anglo-Saxon/Celtic/Nordic background. Everyone else either tow's the line or you know where the door is. Sick and tired of the media especially trying to have minorities shown as the majority in adverts etc. It doesn't represent Britain in anyway and its causing more problems then it solves.

Rule Britannia is not a celebration of Empire as such, it is actually a plea to have the depleted Royal Navy built up to fight the Muslim Barbary Pirates who were taking English ships and raiding Cornwall for white slaves.

Instead of footballers taking the knee make them sing this anthem !

Classical music doesn´t need inferior "diversity" values. It lives from QUALITY, which is far more sublime, far more uplifting.

A friend of mine attended the Proms 5-6 years ago shortly after the Referendum. Outside the Royal Albert hall, BBC EMPLOYEES were handing our EU Flags. They were free to take. My friend asked where the Union Jack flags were, and he was told that they were available "over there" and were £5 each. THAT sums up the BBC.

Music is music and should not be politicised, these people are invading every area of personal life and It must be stopped.

Many decades ago I didn't mind about songs like this or indeed our flag. Now after years of our institutions bowing low and prostrating themselves to loud mouthed minorities who don't like being dictated to but see it fine to dictate to others. Now I am actually proud of the Union Jack and songs like Rule Britannia for the very first time.

Many of todays finest classical musicians are from the far east - they take to 'Western' music like ducks to water.

I'm so tired of this kind of females...

Promenading was upper class, singing is un-Islamic, classical music is associated with whiteness, and no female dress code between trans and Islam is not going to work....so the poor luvvies must be besides themselves.

I watch the Last Night Of The Proms every year, principally for the patriotic items, especially such things as Land of Hope & Glory, Jerusalem, Rule Brittania, etc. There would be little point in my having a license if they interfere with that because there is so little on the BBC's current programme menu that interests me other than this. If they interfere with it I will inevitably call it a day and cancel my license subscription. I anticipate a great many others will do the same, probably enough that the BBC will really feel the blow. Far from modiying it I think they would do much better if they expanded it in the manner of the 2012 presentation with outdoor sound stage presentations in Hyde Park etc which enjoyed massive attendance.

There's money sitting on committees and imagined power. It's a nice living for those without actual talent.

Yes, the proms needs to be more modern. Stop playing all this classical music, its old. What we need is for the bbc proms to be replaced with top of the pops. In all seriousness, last night of the proms is old because its tradition. You have all the rest of the proms to put whatever you like in, for old dead european composers to modern movie sound tracks. The proms keeps changing but the last night is the night for the patriotic songs the same way we sing olde lang syne at new year.

I love the comparison between classical music and the MOBO's. One of the most important things about playing classical music is the ability to read music on sight and play it. I doubt anybody who ever won a MOBO award knows the difference between a crotchet and a hatchet.

Its time that the history behind the song was actually explained. Thats the BBCs actual job, to explain culture, educate and entertain. The poem/song refers to the rule of King Alfred when England was being attacked by Vikings and the Gaael Norse and resisting invasion, raids and slavery, at a time when the UK was also under attack from the Barbary states raiding, enslaving and trafficking. The song calls for defence of the people by controlling the waves, the seas around the island.

I live in Sydney Aust and as a Brit who left Britain as a teenager I have gone to Sydney Opera House to wave my Flag with pride for the Country I’ve missed out on there is nothing like Rule Britannia and land of hope and glory for a true Brit.
