BBC North and South soundtrack - Track 2: I've Seen Hell 

The way it just builds and falls again is so perfectly parallel to the relationship between Thornton and Margaret- they're from such contrasting backgrounds that the other cannot understand, but they seem to understand each other perfectly. It illustrates their dislike in certain moments but also their irresistible draw to each other and is so moving- and everyone is sobbing now because of it.

And with this series I fell for Richard Armitage......

They should have called this album "Bound to Induce Ugly Crying: Part One"

The scene where this song plays is actually my favourite scene from the whole series: when Margaret says, "Snow white", and Thornton walks silhouetted across the screen and the music sweeps everything away.....so stirring!

great music..and a really great drama by the bbc. The whole drama and music is tribute to all of those souls who worked in Lancashires cotton mills. One of which was my grandfather. The music moves me to tears everytime...long live the red rose of Lancashire!!!

This goes beyond the definitions of perfection. An exquisite soundtrack indeed.

Absolutely agree that this is an amazing short series by BBC. Contains all the right amounts or drama and romance! I fell in love with it.

i wonder how people can hear such things and not see it as a gift that you are able to have experience this song. i have no doubt that this is one of the most beautiful things ive ever heard

omg more than an hour has passes and I'm still listening to this when it's only 2 and a half minutes long!!! It's SOOOO GOOD !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have to replay it over and over and over and over!!!!!!!!

love this music.... richard armitage is def. a fave....I am so glad to see so many others feel the same thing as I do, this music touches my soul.

I love this whole piece but there is something particularly haunting about the first 20 seconds. A real raw visceral sound that just makes you think of an endless landscape of chimneys and looms moving continually.

The "I've seen hell" speech at the end of episode one, along with the music and the images is one of the most brilliant scenes I've seen on any tv series ever. Gives me chills every time.

The music from this miniseries is so beautiful. When I watched the second episode the main theme was playing, the cinematography was excellently done that I played it over and over.

I was in class once, doing *personal research* and I didn't stop listening to it for a whole 50 minutes! So beautiful! It's the essence of North&South!

This is gorgeous. Martin Phipps is a genius.

The blend of the unpleasant facets of human nature blended together with the pleasant ones makes the events, friendships, and even romance of this film much more believable than others. I like Pride and Prejudice a lot, but there is a reality in this that far surpasses that of Jane Austen's works. It seems to me that Jane Eyre is the tragic, essimistic dramatic romance, Pride and Prejudice the optimistic type, while this is realistic. It depends on what you like, but this is probably the best.

north and south has to be one of the best period dramas i've seen...the characters are so real and great acting from them both. i'm just waiting for my exams to end so i can watch this again and again...

I watched this in my SOSE class when we were studying the undustrial revolution and i just love the music its so haunting but calming at the same time :)

just wanted to make another comment to the uploader. I think you chose the correct pictures for your video here it really captures the mood of the film. The BBC did an a amazing job of the casting here..every time I see the face of Margret in the mill when she sees the conditions I feel like crying.

@FrozenFairieWings There are other really good period dramas but not all so "happy ending" as North and South...but still excellent movies/mini-series. Tess of the D'urbervilles, He Knew He Was Right, The Tenant of Wildfell Hall, Bleak House, The Way We Live Now, Wives and Daughters, Daniel Deronda...so many :-)

@kappyberraful well, think of it this way, if you live in England as I do we're actually on an island with him. It brings you at some solace atleast :) and presuming he lives in London, I breath the same air as him!

@miiwiiplay errr no... this is based on the book by the Victorian author Elizabeth Gaskell, long before that tv movie about the American Civil War with patrick swayze.
