Margaret's character was always composed and settled; her passion always burning beneath her mask of tranquillity. When Thornton fell in love with her, he tried to keep that in-control demeanour going strong as well, but it was so much harder for him: this scene proves why. John Thornton absolutely adores her, he is beyond belief that the woman he loves wants him, wants to save him and his reputation, because he has never been saved like that before. You can tell she feels the same, as soon as she caresses his hand, you can almost hear her proposal of marriage, her oath of love, which is very rare in those times. The euphoria in both their gazes just emphasises how hard it would have been to act like they didn't care.
1:37 is the look that always makes me swoon. We've barely seen him crack a smile the whole movie and this entire scene he is suddenly so incredibly relaxed and at ease looking at her with this intense look of adoration .... sigh ... can any other love scene ever top this one? I think not.
I just LOVE the way he simply looks at her full of love and all the while she is just talking and babbling away when she is clearly trying to keep a calm tone and he's amusingly listening but looking everywhere at her face and when he takes her hand it's like he's shutting her up xD I LOVE IT!
I love it too. So funny how shes trying to be all cool and calm when you know shes feeling like omg, he is really here, omg. And I love how shes going on and on and hes just looking at her , so in love, and yes lol, maybe hes shutting her up when he takes her hand. No more talking, I'm going to kiss you. And what a kiss!
Kristen Lamprecht Oh God me too, he has such an expressive face, he can convey so much without uttering a single word. A twitch of his lips, a quirk of his eyebrows. While she's chattering away, he looks like he's thinking "Could it be true? Or is this a dream? I shouldn't get my hopes up after what mother told me but, does this woman actually love me?"
I just watched the last two episodes back to back so to speak, I must have missed the first two, I hope it's on again soon, I don't usually care for this Pride and Prejudice stuff. This was totally different and so very moving.
Linny ThePooh Wouldn't you think I could watch it on I player? It says it "not available" Yes, I went to get something from my bedroom and it was on, I was enthralled by it all. That beautiful house, was it the one featured in "Howard's End"? It looked similar. It just seemed so realistic, unlike most of these type, A mixture of "The Mill" also very good and "Emma" but different. Some of the dreadfulness of the period and some kindness also. Regards Martin
***** I agree. I feel like, though it is compared to Pride and Prejudice ad nauseam, it is completely different. Both are good but I find myself gravitating more toward North and South as I feel that Thornton and Margaret are a bit more compelling than Elizabeth and Darcy. That and, for me, the issues of the working class are a more interesting backdrop than the issues of society and fortune.
The music is so beautiful... This scene doesn't need words to be perfect, the way Thornton looks at Margaret tells everything. Thank you for this video !
The main reason I love this miniseries so much is it finally showed the public that Richard was not just a "himbo", since a good few of the roles he played beforehand were pretty much "totties", hot guys with ne real depth or personality who basically had no storyline other than to stand there and look good. (Lee from Cold Feet, Paul from Between the Sheets, for instance). Richard is a stunningly handsome man, but with N&S he was finally allowed to show that behind those looks is a remarkable actor who really knows how to fully inhabit a part.
ladycplum It's interesting you say that because I personally find that this is his best acting/movie that he has ever done! I looked for movies of his to match this. None came close! Well in my opinion anyway
I never ever thought I would love a period drama more than Pride & Prejudice, nor love a couple as much as Elizabeth and Mr Darcy. But, now I do. And this was so beautifully done, thank you :)
Richard Armitage plays the role so good, the music says more than 1000. You can see true love in his eyes, it is very strong. I can not stop dreaming about that another person will look at me like, a day. you know dreams can come true, all you have to do is to keep on dreaming.
My oh my, I think he really must have loved her in real life. or he is a heck of an actor. The way he looks at her.....it makes me want to cry, it's so beautiful!
alma eufracio He is a really good actor! They both had chemistry which I think definitely puts movies and tv shows over the top. When the chemistry is there between the people the story is told and received! Love this movie!
This music would surely take my breath away...were I even able to breathe...it almost reaches into your soul not allowing you to know, should you a smile come to your lips or tears to your eyes....Thank you for escape.
This is one of the most powerful and romantic mood videos I have ever seen. This is such a gorgeous moment in a love story. I wish there had been more. The music is exquisite.
This scene made me cry from happiness which rarely happens when watching movie it's just so beautiful and to see mr Thornton being so open with how he feels for her ughhh
this man has such a golden heart behind his toughness...and it was that woman that helped him to make that obvious...i think that this music shows clearly this gradual process of his change and how sweet and deep was his feelings... :)
+Irma-C ☆ Is to die for! I own the DVD and have it on Amazon Video. I've watched the movie so many times and read the book. *sigh*. He needs to be Matthew in the upcoming movie adaptation of A Discovery of Witches. www.amazon.com/Discovery-Witches-All-Souls-Trilogy/dp/0143119680
this touching scene makes me remember the way my ex looked at me when we were still in relationship. anyone in love will have so full of passion in their eyes, and i can not explain how wonderful the moment is. i love Margaret's reaction, she treasured her kiss as if it would pass away when she opened her eyes. mr. Thornton, where can i find my own you :(
Thank you SO very much for uploading the soundtrack to this unbelievably wonderful series -- no wonder I couldn't find it anywhere to buy -- going to listen to this to at night before bed -- and drift off to thoughts of our Mr. Thornton. You did a fantastic job lining up the movies to the music!..
lucifmello, forgot to thank you. So, thanks. This is beautiful. No words needed because the music and the looks on their faces says it all. I think Margaret is about to burst with emotions. John too. Love it.
You did an amazing job editing this video! You hit all the emotional peaks, timed beautifully with the music. I watch this vid at least once a week. Thank you!
The way he looks at her is so tender, like she's the most precious thing in the world. Makes me wonder if anyone will ever look at me that way. Can't wait to meet him, whoever he is.
I so love the music to this film. And this particular track is so sweet and tender. It is similar to Arvo Part's Spiegel im Spiegel. Thank you for sharing this.
Pokochałam tę scenę. Po podejrzeniach, że ona obejmuje kogoś na peronie, to właśnie on skończył "skandalicznym" pocałunkiem na peronie, na oczach wszystkich ❤
THIS SCENE. If I was her I would have melted right there at the station under that gaze... it's so moving seeing Thornton like this, especially bc he seemed so strict and cold the whole series, and then this genltleness aww.... AND THAT KISS! guys take notes
Absolutely beautiful! A beautiful song and a beautiful kiss! Someday, someone is going to kiss me like that, and when they do, that song is going to be playing in my head!
Really excellent tribute to a great period Drama and book. Love John and Margaret's story. Glad you used the Soundtrack. Gorgeous score that works so well with the acting.
I so feel the exact same way, my gosh! How on earth does anyone dislike this? I could watch this over and over and over again. This piece is just too perfect alone, and is also so perfect for this scene... Just, UGH!! That insane person!
About 1:28 sounds almost like the soundtrack bit from Amazing Grace...but very, very pretty, all the same. I just love the train scene. Thanks for uploading it.
+Every Dark Cloud has a Silver Lining The speed at which he kisses her - it like this has been building up for months with his being in love with her - the way he can't hold himself back.
oh Mr. Thornton....I'll be waiting for you on the Northbound train at 12/24/2012 @ 11:59 later on this year.........what an amazing Christmas gift you would be.....
I swear if I was an actress filming a kissing scene with Armitage, I'd find it excruciatingly hard not to get carries away and start *actually* doing some serious making out.
