Please, do you have This Is Your Life, the episode with Cathleen Nesbitt (S20 E23, May 7, 1980) It would be a tribute to Michael Jayston too (who sadly passed a few days ago) and it has many great actors in it too (John Gielgud, Max Harrison, Michael Jayston, Coral Browne, Douglas Fairbanks, Roland Culver, Maria Aitken, Richard Briers). Thank you!

I was so saddened to hear of Ian's passing. His characters will live on people's hearts and minds & in the video recordings. I find the BBC's response to disallowing the submariner's list clip reprehensible. I think that the Corporation that we in Britain own takes itself far too seriously as being a professional commercial organisation. The clips of any BBC programme belong to us. We have to pay for them under threat of jail. Bad form. Sleep well Ian. You were loved by many.
@stickytapenrust6869
@stickytapenrust6869 4 месяца назад
Unfortunately, copyright law doesn’t agree with you because the actors were (and are) all freelance, so the law says the production company owns it - regardless of how it’s funded - because they are the ones with whom the artists had a freelance employment contract with, not the general public. The BBC - like all other public services - is not actually owned by the public in its most literal sense. Every public service is answerable to us and is funded by us but is not actually owned by us.

*I find it hard to believe that an American (David Hyde Pierce) would be unfamiliar with a colloquial sitcom like Dad's Army. Next we'll be hearing that they don't find the humour in Monty Python*
@stickytapenrust6869
@stickytapenrust6869 4 месяца назад
Would you find it hard to believe that Dad’s Army has only been screened on local PBS stations late at night over there, like pretty much everything else British screened over there as PBS stations cater for minority interests and are only available in big cities IIRC. So they’re pretty “out of the way” for most Americans to watch. That’s even assuming their local PBS station even decided to show it…
@sexobscura
@sexobscura 4 месяца назад
@stickytapenrust6869 Thanks for the information My real point was that American humour is completely at odds with English humour. They don't really understand the level of self-deprecation involved in it, along with the English sensibility
