Prompted by huge public demand the track was released on November 17, 1997 as a charity single for Children in Need, and Reed said "I have never been more impressed with a performance of one of my songs."
As a kid I remember watching BBC waiting for a program to come on and q announced spoke and this came on & i remember watching it & to this day it is one of my favourite things.
A beautiful compilation of Blues amazing song and to boot November 17th is my birthday. I get all kind of choked up when I hear this rendition with all these wonderful singers. Thanks Lou
I well remember this era well and was 27 at the time. The tune is in Bb major (I have a very good memory for tunes and possess perfect pitch). Like the classical input best of all!
I still don't know who tf they are, the ones weirdly wrapped in trash bags (hmmm, wrapped in trash bags, mybe telling us something?), or half the ppl on this vid? Cool song though.
I was 13 when this was released me and my dad loved it over the years its become our song if u see this dad i love and miss u when this is all over we will see each other again 😘🤗❤️
My parents got married in 1998 and this was their wedding song. It still gives me chills and makes me tear up every time I listen to it. 24 years later and they’re still happily together😍this song reminds me of such happiness and family atmosphere.
@@jhonsmith148 July 2022. It's been a mad couple of years, but this song was a nostalgic bittersweet joy. Don't know what made me think of it today, but I'm glad I did.
Who's listening at Xmas 2020? In year when we all need a hug more than ever, this is as close as many of us will get to a warm embrace. Stay safe, and be kind, Everyone 🤗
I’ve listened to Perfect Day since this version was released. Almost 20 years ago and it stills shakes me to the core. It’s haunting and beautiful, happy and sad. Just, stunning ❤️ While everyones role kind of fit, Heather and Tom at the end, is perfection.
And I’m 15 again. Music can be like a time machine, it brings back so many wonderful memories. This song in particular perfectly encapsulates how my sense of nostalgia views that time. Amazing collaboration of an incredible song.
I still love this version of the song and what an incredible line up, but my God, Tom Jones absolutely proves why he has one of the best voices in the entire industry. Such power! Amazing.
probably the best song ever written and this version for charity was awesome it takes me back to the 90s so many memories of bieng a child growing into a teenager i could easily be transported back to that decade and never ever ever leave it such a relaxing and chilled out tune
Originally a self-promo for the BBC, but due to increasing popularity released as the Children in Need single for 1997: www.bbc.co.uk/music/articles/542ae7b7-261c-4d21-8e34-e0b186d7e7d1
It was origionally a promo for the bbc highlighting the benefits how being funded by the licence fee allows it to operate how it does without the pressure of commercialism
@@TheDjackso1 It is a love song to being smacked out written by a addict. It has a beautiful sound and lyric but it is about what is a horrific situation for most people. Lou was cashed up and had his minders and entourage so being an addict was never to harsh for him. God forbid you try to replicate the sentiment of this song on a working man's wage. In these years Lou rarely ever experienced the sickness of "feeling sick and dirty waiting for my man"
@@trevorpiper1132 Ehhh even lou said it wasn't about tweaking bro and that was way before this track was used for charity so theres literally no reason for him to lie
When I was young catching this song on MTV/VH1 I didn't really have the capacity to appreciate this song. Now returning to it years later it really strikes a chord.
Haunting....such a lovely song and unlikely Christmas Carol....keep in mind that this was produced by David Bowie in 1972 to revive Lou's career. The arrangement and much of the charm came from the most underrated producer and arranger, Mick Ronson, the guitarist for Bowie in the Ziggy Stardust period. The original piano was played by Mick Ronson as well as other great songs on that album (Transformer).
For me this is the greatest ever. Re-visited after today's hash at Bridge Over Troubled Water. The use of the voices here is remarkable & Courtney's sax solo hits my heart every time.. RIP Lou x
Ever so mysterious how almost "all the music" from this era was so magical... Music from today just doesn't seem to captivate the mind and heart this way anymore

I was not close to my grandad, he was reserved and quite stern. When he died this turned out to be one of his very favourite songs and this version accompanied a slideshow of photos of him. I wouldnt have guessed anyone like Lou Reed would have had any favour with him, but i am proud that he did.
I love this song so much. I love the variety and the "ooh I know him/her" and the "who's that?" I have it on cassette when it was released for Children in Need. I think the vocals and different styles all work wonderfully together, but I *think* my favourite is Emmylou Harris (hope I've got that right) singing "you just keep me hanging on". Beautiful. Gabrielle is a close second though, her voice is so distinctive.
it's 1.30am in UK n this song come to mind so had to listen as it's been years since I last heard it. it's now in my phones play list. love n peace to David bowie 😇❤

Pure genius, was a teen when it was released , hip hop head, loved bowie and fun loving criminals, this ad/song made alot of things for some reason feel great. Best ad ever, would come on between the switchover for Wimbledon ,bbc linked millions of us over a summer . Amazing , timeless.
I never understood what inspired BBC executives to produce this but it's still the best promo they've made. I couldn't wait for it to come on again and turn the TV right up.
The Duran Duran version. As Lou Reed called it "the way I always wanted it to sound". Itwas the template for this version a couple years later. Kinda how Adele showed what a great song Feel Your Love is when not sung by Bob Dylan.

Funny how time can shift your perspective on things. I didn't think much of this track when it came out, I guess in part because we were so familiar with each of these artist's own material (and this song) it didn't seem terribly new or exciting at the time. Now though.... what a beautiful lineup of unique voices, what a stunning sax solo....what a song! We were spoiled for great music in the 90's but didn't realise it until after it was all over. :-/
The power of a great song, the human voice, superb musicianship and great collaborative minds. One of my all time favourite artistic events..... If only all advertising was this good....
Impossible to find on streaming services, always loved this version of the song. Thanks for sharing it and keeping it available for folk to listen to and reminisce!
'The song has not been digitally released to digital music platforms as the "single [is] unusable again in a commercial context due to the specific nature of the clearances for Children In Need at the time"' Wikipedia.
Absolutely outstanding by possibly the best TV channel in the world. Didn't realise that Heather and Tom's voices were so similar. That's odd, a black Manc lady and a white Valley boy. Class will out wherever!
God what happened to the BBC? They seem to have forgotten how to do this kind of thing in the last twenty years or so. I mean, it was just meant to be an ad for Beeb Music! Talk about awesome stuff. I remember racing to the local Woolworth's (yes I'm that old) to get this on CD and the extra tracks had an all female and an all male version. All three were brilliant but this is the one that was PERFECT (pun intended). Please Beeb, do more like this again will you?

This is truly epic and an immortal heavenly classic into Eternity and Beyond❤ The greatest of thanks always❤️🌷to all of you for giving us this most fantastically beautiful Unforgettable version of one of the world's truly most stunningly excellentunsurpassed best songs ever😮😊
I love BBC. It is truly a "public service" with plenty of excellent programs and no commercials. In Italy, we have RAI, which broadcasts an awful bunch of commercials and many idiotic quiz shows, talk shows, dance shows, talent shows, etc. to make people even more stupid.
