Lou Reed once said in an interview that Duran Duran's version of this song was the best re-recording of any of his songs, and if could've sang it as well as Simon did, he would have, then he said "Thank you Duran Duran"
I just listened to Duran Duran's Cover/Version. I disagree with Lou on this occasion. There's only one person who sang this as beautifully as Lou and that's David Bowie imho.
Lou Reed Bono Skye Edwards (from Morcheeba) David Bowie Suzanne Vega Elton John (Andrew Davis) Boyzone Lesley Garrett (Lou Reed) Burning Spear Bono Thomas Allen (Brodsky Quartet) Heather Small (from M People) Emmylou Harris Tammy Wynette Shane MacGowan (Sheona White) (tenor horn player) Dr. John David Bowie Robert Cray Huey Morgan (from Fun Lovin' Criminals) Ian Broudie (from The Lightning Seeds) Gabrielle Dr. John Evan Dando (from The Lemonheads) Emmylou Harris (Courtney Pine) (soprano saxophone player) (BBC Symphony Orchestra) (Andrew Davis) (Bono) Brett Anderson (from Suede) Visual Ministry Choir Joan Armatrading Laurie Anderson Heather Small Tom Jones Heather Small Lou Reed
That Bowie line is amazing. And Shane Mac Gowan’s line always makes me feel good. Then Lou Reed sitting back realizing he wrote one of the best songs ever and all these people are singing his song, that makes me feel even better
I ve read the comments below. I think every artist have a special voice and the outcome is perfect!! Also these two who sing opera put this something extra and the song is fantastic!!!
Excuse me for my bad english but I’m a french girl. Perfect Day is the most beautifull song of the world. I miss you too much Mister Lou Reed and Mister David Bowie.
If Bowie would only sing all of it, it would be a perfect song. I have heard that all performers sang the whole song all the way through so hope that Bowie's complete version is eventually released.

Been looking for this video since 1998. I've finally found it and this is just a perfect day! Strange but I mistakenly remembered Dolores O'Riordan was also here...
I am imagining the choir on the other side singing this perfectly, r.i.p all you perfected angelics, this keeps me hangin' on to my seat & rewinding its mystical beauty
My God👍🏿It’s so beautiful, awesome song👌Bring Chills, all’s voices so perfectly, can’t listen them alright, always alright 🔥it’s a legend👍🏿👩🏼🦰❤️Thanks for the Performers❤️and SAXO🙏💋I’m like so👩🏼🦰
Just a perfect day Drink sangria in the park And then later, when it gets dark We go home Just a perfect day Feed animals in the zoo Then later a movie, too And then home Oh, it's such a perfect day I'm glad I spent it with you Oh, such a perfect day You just keep me hanging on You just keep me hanging on Just a perfect day Problems all left alone Weekenders on our own It's such fun Just a perfect day You made me forget myself I thought I was someone else Someone good Oh, it's such a perfect day I'm glad I spent it with you Oh, such a perfect day You just keep me hanging on You just keep me hanging on You're going to reap just what you sow You're going to reap just what you sow You're going to reap just what you sow You're going to reap just what you sow
Oh well, isn't that just truly amazing, the song was played at my friend's funeral in 1997 when it came out, and have never watched it till tonight WOW amazing...... all those beautiful talented people on one track.. Fab U Lus...x
The best cover of this song is by Caro Emerald. She just brings a sense of electricity to the song that doesn’t dismiss the melancholy but brings a new feeling of sorrowful joy.
"Someone good...yeah" I been in the right place but it must have been the wrong time I'd have said the right thing but I must have used the wrong line I'd have took the right road but I must have took a wrong turn Would've made the right move but I made it at the wrong time I been on the right road but I must have used the wrong car My head was in a good place and I wonder what it's bad for ~Malcolm Rebennack...was good.
Interesting. I'm a longtime Lou Reed fan. It's evident from this, plus the marvelous Pavortti duet, that Lou considered "Perfect Day" his masterpiece. I wouldn't necessarily disagree . . . but he had a few of them.
