I hate crowded big cities, but credit where credit is due: Istanbul is a wonderfully fascinating place. Coolest city I've been to, hands down. And the Turkish people are superb. Great, great place!
I feel the same, but my exception is Vienna. I spent two weeks there in 2018 and didn't want to leave. I won't visit anywhere in Turkey until Erdoğan is out of power.
5:52 I was shocked when I saw 'rising sun flag' on the motorcycle. It's a war criminal flag and was used in World War II. I hope more and more people would recognize it and do not use it as design. By the way, I love this documentary. Istanbul is one of my favorite cities.
My God! This feature on Istanbul is SO Outdated! - and could you not find a younger, more adventurous guide, BBC? Nothing against him, personally - but Istanbul does not LIVE in it's "Tourist" Attractions! - It's life pulsates in the blood of it's people, and the veins of its neighborhoods: Cihangir, Cukurcuma, Karikoy, Kadikoy, Tasksim, Balat-Fener, Arnavutkoy, Kuzguncuk! I spent the good part of 2021 here, and fell madly in-love with the city, and it's magnificent Bosphorus! The youth are an incredibly vibrant, contemporary lot - expressive, and creative...and certainly NOT behind the Times! BBC! Did you make this for Aunti Gertrude, and Uncle Mel?
Before he sampled that cheese, he said "When in Rome". He's a West-centric idiot : he should have said "When in Turkey" because it has long history of it's own : food, music, langauge, clothes, culture etc etc !! A fascinating place which was the head of its own empire.
