Color Is Beautiful I totally agree. I like the picture-shoot scene and Uncle Brooke walked in and the NE boys forgot about the camera guy and embraced their big Uncle Brooke. Black boys admire real men - something we need more of in our community.
Young women need an Uncle Brook as well. Unfortunately now a days there are so many perverts you can't trust anybody. He was the star of the movie in my opinion. This movie was EXCELLENT and I bet they had no idea how big it was going to be. It would have made a killing in the theater.
i actually met the group in 2005, in Detroit Michigan, they were performing at the Fox Theatre, they were so nice, and polite, especially Ronnie! they offered us tickets to the performance and everything! I was working at the Antheneum Hotel in Detroit.
That movie took me back to that good feeling that I find hard to find and embrace in these days. Bring back good music with feelings. Congrats to New Edition they deserve everything they get, *love* them brothers.
I already purchased BBD's CD (old school) and I can honestly say, I really like ALL the tracks, but especially that intro with Doug E Fresh...A-MAZ-ING!! Tracks 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 9 and 10 I REALLY love! Good work men and please continue to do what you do and inspire others! Wishing you all the best and continued success!
Kody Evans Bruh i think it topped 5 Heartbeats one of my favorite movies of all time. I was impressed. They gave them a genuine tribute and you can tell they put their all into every scene. Amazing film! They crushed it!
It took forever to get what we wanted a New edition story we love these Brothas one of the best groups there will never be another super group I love watching them grow up my kids see why I played their music so much you can never get tired of this stuff Thank You Brothas for music we can feel and go back in time
My fav part in the movie was when they were recording Can You Stand The Rain....also their single Hot 2 Nite was a smash when it came out especially the remix with The Game
Matt McClary this is just my opinion but I think they should do a sequel to the movie or do a 13 episode series (similar how FX made "The People vs OJ"). The said themselves that there's a lot of The NE Story that they decided not to put in the movie due to time constraints.
Teej Major Eh I think it was a good movie. Just long enough to be good. If they make a series about it after already having made the movie it would get played out quick and would be focused mainly on Bobby Brown or Boyz 2 Men which then it wouldn't even be about New Edition really
In another video, Biv told Algee, he was really impressed at how played their brother.. And I fully agree. Other than Algee's hight, he was Ralph. Well, close enough. AIN'T NOBODY, THE Ralph Tresvant!!!
I hope you guys someday see & read this, me telling you that I'm proud of you though you're few years older than me I still grew up w/u & I listen to how you guys went thru something awesome together & managed to respect & love one another I love how you break the culture thing down mike & just know in a time when celebs let us down thanks for not as for me I'll always support u.
I think the secret to having groups today versus yesteryear is family raising. today's kids doesn't understand the essence of family from broken families and single parents. the family bond and virtue is gone.
@ DESCIPLE... Kids are products of their environment. We grew up in neighborhoods which were real communities, the same way NE did. Whether it was the projects or not, we hung out at the park or the rec center in our neighborhoods. Families were familiar with each other because we were neighbors, and we treated each other as such, with consideration. With upward mobility, however, the suburbs became popular. Suburbs are different and seem to almost encourage this disconnected way of living. No connection, no consideration. Children raised w/o having to consider others are going to inherently be selfish and can't see the value of community. NE understood and loved community. Ralph would have never taken a solo deal as a kid. He wanted/ needed his friends. He felt, indebted to them, responsible for them. Kids today have no understanding of this. They will choose to be solo each time because the spirit of community is lost on them (and they're our kids!). We need real communities back where we give a d@$m about our neighbor. Then we may just be blessed with a legendary, iconic male group again.
mashgallo So true,I pointed this out in a comment I made somewhere else how the Mothers were "grown" women in the pj's.And they even seemed to have a bond like family.Thats how it was when I was growing up in the pj's.There were'nt just single young women with kids and young guys selling drugs in the pj's there were families and bonds. And nowadays Mom's don't even know one another.Your kids can hangout with kids you don't know or their Mothers or fathers. That sense of togetherness is gone among us.
New Edition is the last of its kind. The reason is because this style of music is being buried. The powers that be are not interested in soulful music and the stepping. They don't understand it, aren't entertained by it, and can't compete with it. Therefore, they'll try to bury it...and not support it. They'll support hip hop which is what they buy. If you ever look at modern hip hop and r&b stations, a majority of the djs are white...or not black. This is how black history is buried. This is why NE will be the last of its kind. I'm glad I had a chance to experience them, The Jacksons, The Temps, Blue Magic, The Delphonics, Troop, TLC, etc.
What about Jodeci ? Jodeci had 3 straight multi platinum albums then Kci and Jojo made 3 straight platinum albums after Jodeci come on. Them guys are legendary.
LIKE STEPHANIE MILLS SAID WHITE RECORD COMPANIES WANT WHITES TO SING IT AND NOT US THE CREATORS OF IT ALL THEY WANT TO DO IS STEAL FROM OUR CULTURE CAUSE THEY HAVE NONE THEY WANT TO BE US SOOO BAD LIKE LONI LOVE FROM THE REAL SAID THEY WANT OUR RHYTHM BUT NOT OUR BLUES AND THAT IS A PROFOUND STATEMENT AS WELL AS A TRUE ONE THEY ARE EBTERTAINED BY IT THEY LUV WHAT WE DO THEY ARE JUSTMAD CAUSE THEY HAVE TO COPY US AND GOD GAVE IT TO US NATURALLY
@@balls_down_ya_throat456 Don't U Dare Forget About Us Too We Have 10 Charted Songs On The Billboard Charts 5 Of Them Went # 1 4 Albums Solo Projects From Steve Allen And Myself 32 Years Of R&B Music History Together Awhole Lot Of Tours And We Came Out Before My Bros Jodeci. One Love Fam...
Nah... Lil Bro you way off... Besides the Temptations, Supremes, Michael Jackson and Josephine Baker and not many others; there just aren't any groups that transcended decades of respect and fandom!!!
Avian Jackson Exactly,I feel NE worked because they have a long history in the music business. And they did something phenomenal,There were two chart topping solo artist and a chart topping group that came out of NE.NWA introduced a new form of rap music into the genre plus the police brutality issues going on in LA made for a great tell all.
He actually did r does have a group he'd been promoting, but seeing as how he sat under Piddy's tutorials, I'm not sure he'd be good for another group..... He talked NE into signing with Bad Boys, all but Bobby (he said he's not doing that, SMART MOVE)... They said that's one of the worst contracts n it took alot for them to get from under Diddy..... That was their last album.
Boys II Men was on tv many years ago in the 90s talking about how Mike was stiffing them out of money and broke from his management. It was played in the scene when Mike was in the office and receives call about where is their money. This is true. Boy II Men complained about their money and got a new manager.
Tony McKinney... thought the same. both the older and younger actors. the little guy had all his shoulder movements down, and the other was super smooth just like ralph t. kudos to all, overall.
Mike going to Johnny to bring him in to replace Ralph - that one moment of truth ticked me off. I guess in the end it worked out for the best, but that was cruel.
I don't know the situation about why they didn't tell Ralph that he was being replaced by Johnny Gill because they thought Ralph was leaving, but if it was done to be spiteful than that was wrong. I hope truly the fellows have truly become close again, because they are all Great members and need each other whether they want to admit it or not.
Loretta Thomas... i can imagine there may have been some saltiness. Ralph was made to appear disgruntled. I know he was there guy, the smart thing to do was CYA, but out of love and respect it should have been approached differently. it was handled immaturely. Likewise, with the bob vote. they could have united & told him we're not voting against bob (although he did need to go!).
I agree Tia Flores. Look at Johnny Gill's recent radio interview this month February. He talked of how he could relate to what Ralph was feeling, and spoke of how he (Johnny Gill) and Mike had an on-going fallen out just recently. The Interviewer says to him why is it that Mike is having all these arguments with everybody? Johnny says I guess because he thinks no one respects him. He wants respect. What I got from that Mike wants to be the boss, and Ralph has stood up to him, and Johnny. I Love the entire group but I'm seeing that Mike causes confusion.
I wish they would have addressed New Kids on the Block and other groups who were rivals, especially NKOTB, since Maurice Starr found them, in the mini series.
NKOTB was never rivals of New Edition, they were Maurice Starr's attempt to redo NE. At the end of the day he did them the exact same way, and took they money. Also, NKOTB came years later. It didn't make since to talk about them in this movie because they had nothing to do with NE
12:04-12:40 YES! We gotta work on this in the Black community. Its almost like we're letting our culture be taken away! The rock music sound was created by a Black woman but now rock its considered white. I hope we don't let the same happen with hip hop and r&b.
No one owns music. Black people sample white peoples music all the time. Why not everyone do what they want instead of trying to divide music into black and white?
J Pep Idk ask the white people who run the music industry that..Regardless I meant what I said so don't waste your time asking me hypothetical questions.
hey Mia they can imitate but they will never be able to duplicate. My man call them culture vulture they look at what we do then they imitate. Damon Dash he is the one who called them that.
Shady as hell! Wow! They thought it was funny that Ralph didn't know he was being replaced. Ralph was to loyal to the dudes. When people show you who they are the first time believe them.
Maurice starrs studio was in the hood in Roxbury they use clean up this place where the adults had parties so they could practice there when I was a kid my mother and some other family members had the keys to that place
they are right. I wanted to be in a boy band and actually did talent shows with a boy group when I was 10 years old lol.i started back in the day at rec centers Becuase of watching groups like abc the boys and ne lol. Those rec center Directors saw talent in us and took us to other venues. I grew up as a preachers kid and could only show case secular music through those types of venues. my parents did not even know i was singing secular music then lol hahah. back in the late 80s early 90s there were male and female groups all over the place at different functions. I had to change our group names alot as time went on because real artist were coming out with our Group names lol hahah
Ricky is such a God bless guy, he steps back and waits, whatever it takes for the group. He never has been given justice.. he gave up the lead to Ralph that alone proves what I’m saying. Rickey had to have a God loving Woman. He my favorite NE member.
I had 2 reflect on my life as far as where I was when NE hit the scene. I was in 6th grade. my sis was too young to know anything about em. BBD was more her speed. Bobby brown is ALWAYS gonna be that WILD CARD. he needs 2 take his bipolar meds. I do. consistency is the key.
Uh...did Mike just kinda shade Bryshere (who played him) or did I misunderstand him?! For the record, Biv has always been my favorite and both actors that portrayed him did him justice to the utmost! In my humble opinion.
Erika Garnett I think he was giving props about that scene where Ricky spoke on his financial woes and fear of his future with his wife, it was incredible because no one was there for that and the public only thought Bobby to be the troublemaker and drug addict. Bryshere got Mikey's mannerisms and voice DOWN but that part of the series took the movie to a different place.
Afia Griffith OOOH! I just went back and listened again and with your context I get why he said it that way. Thanks for clarifying. See, that's how stuff be getting started. #wannabestartingsomethin
Afia Griffith OOOH! I just went back and listened again and with your context I get why he said it that way. Thanks for clarifying. See, that's how stuff be getting started. LOL!
I the movie I was so mad to see they were having sex, I just always seen them kind of innocent. I was like WHAT!😒😱😱😱😱They let them have group sex and stuff. And my Ronnie my so called shy Man, doing it too. LOL Boy, that took me back.
Sad to say, the reason you don't see the black boy band groups is because of how we raise our children in our community. Everything with our little black children is too grown now. You see 9 year olds girls twerkin. You see 9 year old boys acting like they hustle and bang. Gone are the days of promoting WANTING to get out the hood. The promotion now is being from the hood. In my day, you weren't embarrassed to be from the projects, but you worked to get out and didn't glorify it. And, once you got out, you never forgot how tough it made you, but you didn't promote it. Now, it's all about keeping it hood. Sad, but that's what my black people consider being real now. Having a very good job and a nice house with a black queen wife and black kids and two cars in a decent neighborhood now is considered being white. Trust me, I know from personal experience. Get it all the time from the bruthas that aren't doing anything. Then, I have to hit them with my wife, my kids, my fraternity (KAPsi), my job etc, then out it back on them and say you're exactly what whites want us to be so they can control you. Same with the black boy band thing. Another point is this. I've seen people say it on here. Our music is so intertwined now. There was talk of Bruno Mars being a culture vulture. Well, isn't everyone???? They have taken our culture, and it's an stream. Taylor swift, Arianna, etc. Our true R & B culture is gone. It's almost like it's underground with the likes of Eric benet and D'Angelo types
Sorry to be a little critical, but I thought the profanity and slang being spoken in the movie sounded too much like present day slang , it made me feel like the script was including too much ad-libbing, and I was watching just another BET movie when they weren't performing the songs.
Mike is a snake. Mike trying to down play it. Ralph should have left them because ralph was new edition. Ricky couldn't do ralph part, mike and ronni can't sing. No body looking for them everyone loves Ralph, like Ralph said go do modeling jobs ronni, rickey now can be lead singer. To me they treated Ralph wrong and he did most for the group. They didn't showed a lot but these fools are mad because he wasn't singing for years. They should have treated him much better. And this new album by them (BBD) is trash. Mike always throw shade at Ralph. They talk about him not showing up on shows but they never talk about them not showing up or being late. Ralph did most of the songs, no body looking for ricky unless Ralph singing and the two back up dancers should be grateful. Ralph was the cutest and most talented, he dance just as good or better than ronni, rooni didn't sing and dance. Ralph was always on point with his singing and dancing. He would sing lead and get back in line on point. No one in the group did it. My girl went to their concert and she said it was wack. They can't go on the road in go back and do the old songs without ralph. When Ralph, Bobby and Johnny stated the head of state, honey that was a show. They did the oldie and goodies. Now who in bbd could do the oddies and goodies. I told her I didn't want to go because I don't want to see them. Now if New Edition come to town and Ralph is there I will have front row seat. Bye BBD and stop hating on Ralph.
