The thing about the bloat of the Goa Ould mothershipps is that it has lorereasons behind it. There is one episode in wich SG1 tries to equipt the Jafa rebells with earth weaponry, and during the presentation Oneal holds up a Staffweapon and cals it a "Weapon of Terror!". Basicaly these weapons are part of the theatrics, keeping the masses in check. They are efective at what they doo, but that isn't war. The same is true for their Hatack mothershipps. Untill the first Systemlords death (caused by the earth millitary) threw the balance of force thru a window, they were at a standstill with noone risking their standing thru open hostillity beyond a few border skirmishes. The Hatack were a mobile base/palace/supercarryer/temple/... these things were not designed for efficience. They were designed so every slave could see their master arive across the horizon. The eldar craftworlds comparison seams to fitt them best. The Pegasusgalaxy was the setting of the SG-Atlantis series, and featured a new enemy. These "Wraith" didn't deal in theatrics. Instead they used bioshipps. Jess their whole fleet was grown not built. These processes just take time and space and you loose eficiency, aspecialy if every stage of their growth has to acomodate a humanoide crew living within it's inerds. Don't even ask about the Ori. Jess their shipps did look impressive, but you have to be on a total powertripp to even considder a ring as the shape you want your warshipps in.

I think I said this in the other video you watched on SG1, but the really cool thing about the stargate shows is that they have progression over years and years of content where you get to see them bring back the technologies and resources and develop the prototypes and the programs that lead to earth fielding it's own fleet of interstellar battlecruisers. It's also notable that it's portrayed eventually as an international program with the US operating several of these things and later the russians and eventually the chinese operating one each as well.

On the outdatedness of nukes...in Stargate modern conventional nukes are considered primitive weapons. The introduction of exotic materials like Naquada and Naquadria has punched their yields up massively. One of the lower yield antiship weapons early on in the series was enhanced to gigaton yields. Higher yield weapons are in the teraton and higher range. Even here, shields are highly effective against any one nuke and you are going to need to spam them to do any damage to a shielded capital ship. Which is why beam weapons were a major addition to Earth's battlecruisers. The most powerful weapons the SGC has used in the past are not nukes, unless you consider blowing up a star to be a really, really big nuke. This was done only a few times, in traps meant to wipe out entire fleets.
@thomasstevens2252
@thomasstevens2252 6 месяцев назад
That feels like nukes the fighters should be launching not a full scale military ship..... The minimum size should be 20 megatons and max should be 10,000 for anticapital ship combat. Since in space only the EMP and direct hits matter.

Just as a bit of further explanation for the world of stargate; most of the galaxy was at that time dominated by the goa’uld, a feudal empire where humans were enslaved or used as hosts for the parasitic goa’uld. The Asgard meanwhile was in the middle of a losing war against self replicating machines and dealing with their own genetic degradation that eventually lead to their extinction. It was humanity (more specifically SG1’s) ingenuity and their help defeating the self replicating machines that lead the Asgard to giving humanity such a massive tech boost and ultimately giving them all their technology when the Asgard eventually went extinct.

This show has a lot of learning of tech in it by Stargate Command. Fun fact. There is a episode dedicated to learning why they must reverse engineer and build their own stuff. They put two crashed enemy fighters together, slap some USAF paint on it, and show it off to a general. It bites them in the ass and they actually learn from the mistake.

Sg1 and Atlantis were made when relations with Russia, while still tense at times, were more friendly. They even let us use their territory temporarily (very temporarily) for transportation of supplies to Afghanistan i think. In 2008, things began to decline when Russia invaded the country of Georgia (also due to disagreements over strategic weapons treaties initially involving anti-ballistic missile weapons development).

the railgun turrets are approximately the size of 40mm AA bofors. SG:Atlantis had manned versions, which looked like Halo's warthog mounted Gauss cannons but firing at rapid 8-10 round bursts.

Those railguns never got mounted on the BC-304 models. And the railguns on the BC-304's as scaled from the rest of the ship, are like 200mm dual mount rotarries.

Regarding the Asgardians giving us tech. At first, they didn't trust us that much, but they didn't let the Goa'Uld wipe us out either. Then they got their own war with these things called Replicators(basically mechanical tyranids that ate metal to make more of themselves) The Asgardians didn't know what to do because the only solution they could come up with was to try and turn them off. Then we noticed our space friends were in trouble and hit the problem with a rock.(translation: energy weapons don't work, ballistic weapons do) The friendship continued to blossom like Polox and Dantioc until they finally decided they could trust us.

Even if a bunch of the tech on the Daedalus was alien-originated, there was a fair bit of it that was studied, back-engineered, and built by human tech. Sometimes better than its source, because humanity loves to tinker with stuff to make it 'better'. LoL.

To give context to the the varies nuclear ordinance the BC-304 have, a Mk 9 has a minimum yield of 200 Gigatons, and a potential maximum yield of 2000 gigatons. And no that's not a typo, the nukes are that big.

Ah Stargate. What a classic series. I was never much into star trek or galactica but stargate was my jam while growing up. Both sg1 and atlantis were fantastic. Sure they had some dips but overall were really enjoyable. Also a lot more relatable because it's humanity from our time exploring the galaxy and dealing with enemies that should be way out of our league. But over time we learn, adapt and eventually overcome them. Early on it's very guerilla style fighting until they start to be more even but even then it's mostly hit and run tactics, sabotaging etc.

Great reaction to a decent video about a ship whose elegant design I like. And what I love the most is how masterfully used it was as a plot element, sometimes saving the protagonists at the brink of time, and serving to powerscale enemies in later seasons. It was always good to see it appear in both SG-1 and Atlantis, and in the crossover in which was used to defeat both Ori and Wraith capital ships. Then Universe decided to be a teen drama in a derelict ancient ship in autopilot and we were robbed of a series about the crew of a Daedalus-class. You have inspired me to look after videos about my favourite ship, the DP-20 Corellian Gunship that I used to spam when playing Empire at War. The best I found was by Hyperspace Database, if you want a recommendation of spaceship reviews, though it may be a tad too short to react to.

Asgard have all been clones for a *long time*, as part of that they eliminated all secondary sexual characteristics. When the Ori ships first appeared only Asgard ships could even survive fighting them.
@bthsr7113
@bthsr7113 6 месяцев назад
It was a long road to developing the Daedalus. Bit by bit studying alien technologies to gain working understanding. Forging alliances and conducting surveys to acquire the needed exotic materials. From refurbished Death Gliders to home built strike craft to the combat test bed Prometheus to finally multiple operating Daedalus Class ships multiple iterations deep in refinement. The Asgard culture is one of the few that survived from the time of the 4 races before the rise of the System Lords. Indeed, it was the Asgard who deemed humanity on track to becoming the 5th race. They see humanity as the rightful inheritors to the Ancients, but to the Asgard themselves, when their time comes to an end. Sad to say, the SGC railguns often seem to underperform. Both ground based AA turrets and the CIWS mountings on Daedalus class ships. Naquadriah... A most devilish xenomaterial. So the go to power source of the Goa'Uld is Naquadah. Very potent, better than uranium. Naquadriah is Naquadah on meth. Way more powerful, to the point of theoretically being able to power planet buster beam weapons on massive ships or even to allow an F-302 to run a hyperdrive. But Naquadriah is titchy. Even some of the most advanced and innovative Gould couldn't coax the stuff into staying regulated for high draw power supplies. So for practical use, it's largely relegated to making very powerful bombs. That Horizon delivery system was able to glass a whole continent with its six naquadriah warheads. So here's the thing about the 2 weeks to travel intergalactic when fully powered. Fully powered probably means a ZPM if I recall, which is easier said than done given that ZPM's are artifact tech from the ancients. There have been attempts to replicate the energy production methods used by them on larger scales and.... not advised. Heck, the Ancients tried that and said F_CK THAT. So they settled for batteries that merely had the potential to wipe out a large chunk of the sol system if forced to detonate at full power. The Asgard kind of had to answer, kind of didn't. Thing is, when they first showed up in the show, the halt to a Gould invasion on a protected world felt more like swinging the belt than even racking a shell. And that's just what could be spared from the war for survival they hid from the Gould.

Well the SGC tends to be a but more reliable for quality of work, and they don't have an abundance of space frames to work with. Unless they they want to start loading 304's with boarding/prize crews and putting a hold on other operations in favor of privateering Ha'Taks for repurposing and recycling of exotic materials via shipbreaking.... they need to get the most versatility out of the hulls they have.

That Alien is the Asguard is how Norse mythology came to be. The Supreme Commander of the Asgardian Forces is Thor. Nice guy unless you piss him off. Sadly, the Asguards are dead. They died as the last F-U to the Ori by giving their technology to Earth and blowing up their planet as the Ori were invading since they were dying much like the Eldar but did not think other species were lesser just because they came first. Basically, the Asguard knew they were going to die and decided to help humanity to be sort of their replacement as the guardians of the galaxy.

The BC 304 dimensions are in question. There are the Official measurements and the to scale measurements. The to scale measurements use F302's as the unit of measurement and it comes to the 600+ meter long. The official measurements is 225 meters long, 95 meters wide, and 75 meters tall. There is one thing about the weapons that I made int my own head cannon. The Railguns. It is stated that the railguns accelerate an unknown caliber, projectile energy round to 2 KM/s, at around 900 RPM per railgun. I personally think it is a 20mm projectile being accelerated to 2 KM/s, and the round is a AP-HE round that used a Naquadah enhanced explosive charge.
