BC floods: Abbotsford residents clean up as floodwaters recede after 3 storms

The rain has subsided and floodwaters are finally receding in hard-hit areas of British Columbia, allowing people to tally up the costly damage in the aftermath of three atmospheric rivers.
But the threat of mudslides remains throughout the province, with a number of highways still closed. Fuel restrictions also remain in effect, and emergency orders are still in place.
Mike Drolet speaks with some people in Abbotsford, B.C., about the long road ahead.

Actually the water came up so fast in some spots, some people had no time or warnings and just jumped into vehicles as go out.

If the government is going to pay for their rebuilds, shouldn't the government be on the hook to cover disaster costs for any structure in the province, going forward. That would eliminate the need for people in BC to buy insurance...

The thing about flood plains is that due to their proximity to rivers they straight up were the best places to set up a city even with the threat of flooding until only about 70 years ago

@@CorryGal rivers became less important, so, pre 1900s every and i mean EVERY large city was either built beside a river, on the ocean, or both, tbis was because before trains, planes, and cars the only way to move any amount of cargo was via boats, as such cities and farms largely sprung up around them (plus rivers are good for irrigation and tend to have good soil for farming) so as to why flood plains are so heavily built up, its because most cities grew up either incredibly close to flood plains or on top of flood plains

This area produces over 50 percent of bc's eggs. And a large portion of Canada's raw agricultural goods. Think about stupid comments like that when you sit at your dinner table this year or when there's a shortage on eggs. And you're now paying double the price.

@@jaspreetsidhu5708 now that everyone knows how likely this flood zone is to become a lake again maybe we can find somewhere else to lay eggs and let a lake be a lake. I'm willing to pay more for eggs for that and have one less reminder of colonization in the Fraser Valley.
