I was there for 19E Basic and AIT from June, '78 until around December, '78 due to catching pneumonia. I returned as a SFC in June, '94 and retired in June, '99. I liked Ft. Knox and have returned occasionally revisiting old haunts.
I was at Ft Knox around the same time. I got to Ft Knox for AIT three days after Thanksgiving day in 1979. I took basic at Ft Jackson, SC and they flew me into Louisville from Columbia, SC . I was a 63C tank and wheel mechanic. I graduated AIT in February 1980. I remember the phone booths. They were in the movie Stripes. I was in walking distance from the bowling alley and we had our pay musters at the gym from the movie also. I made it to Radcliff and got to go to the US Calvary Store. I guess it's out of business now. Thanks for the video.
Where are now Disney Barracks ❤ the telephone booths are gone , and the sound of rolling thunder no longer echos ..19echo Delta company.. this ole Patton tanker has wer eyes at rhis moment.. 😊
Scouts Out! Kinda worried this was a tanker video until I saw the slick. Went through in the fall of '81. Gotta say, winter looks tougher. We also had new barracks by then. Thanks for sharing!
Nov 19 1983 B-2-1 Disney barracks. SSG Hunt. Called me a rabbit. Why? Because your the type that likes to run. As in AWOL... That S. O. B. Ran my ass off in basic and A. I. T. Until I left there in 84. Yep winter... Served 12 and give it up...
Jan 81- April 81 we had ssgt. Ronald buzzel. lt.green was there also, ran right past him ,had to come back and salute we were on the way to the theater. good times.ours was the first rotation to get the camo fatigues.
Julie May. Thanks for posting the video. I went to Fort Knox, Ky, during the summer of 1983. Sorry to hear about the loss of your father. May god be with you.
19D OSUT, A Troop, 5th Cav 1st Training Brigade (A-5C-1), July 1981. Disney Barracks, with SGT Otis Smith, who ended up as CSM for the entire Ft Knox post prior to retirement.
19K Nov '86-Feb '87. I think my favorite shots are of the inside of the dining hall, and the phone booths. You never see those.. but they take me right back.. holy crap, 37 years ago. I can still smell the coal smoke in the crisp January air.
I wasn't at Fort Knox but I started Basic on Halloween day in 1979, how's that for trick or treat. Your video brought back back some great memories, thanks much.
I was there January cold as hell the clothes were thin remember drill sarge. Hershey he was a real pain in the ass ended up at ft. Bliss tx 4 yrs m60a1 tank commander. Miss it all wish I could go back.
Last time I looked ds Bubb is on Facebook. After basic and Ait I never saw him again. I have a 21 year old grandson that just got sworn in for the Army yesterday. Infantryman. He wants to be sf. That's on his contract at least. Scouts out to you my cav brother. MY God bless you and your family. Mike wade.
Haha, I was there dec.31- april4.at Disney barracks, c-5-c1 1st. Platoon,we had ssgt. Ronald buzzle. Good Times, bowling alley, movies, and the library to listen to music.
Delta Company 15/4, 07 July 1976. Puerto Rican Drill Sergeant Rivera, with a strong accent, couldn't understand a word he says! Yup, Agony, Misery and Heartbreak with the M60A2's and A3's rolling along up and down those steep hills. It's a bitch breathing in their exhaust while forced marching!
I think my grandpa took some of these pictures! He was a photographer working with the armor and engineering board on base. It'd be cool if he knew these soldiers
