This video was the best explanation of what a failstack is that I found on RU-vid. However I'm still super confused... From my understanding it's essentially a pity system for failing upgrades. (I think.) Is it an actual item that you get in your inventory? How do you "build a failstack"? What are do the numbers from 0-30, 30-80, 180-210 mean? Are you able to build up failstacks on other pieces of gear and use it on a piece that you're actually trying to enhance?
Pretty much. It is "bad luck protection" so to speak. when you fail an enhancement, the chance of your next enhancement to succeed it higher. It isnt an "item" - if you open the blackspirit and click enhance, you can see what your current failstack is and what percent that represents. The numbers give different success percentages based on the item and it's enhancement ratings. You can find charts for that here for example: grumpygreen.cricket/bdo-failstack-chart/ And correct, you can "build a fail stack" by failing enhancements on other items to build up a bigger stack, and then use that to try and enhance the item you actually are trying to succeed on. Certain end game items need BIG failstacks in order to have even a remote chance of success. Hope this helps!
It's essentially the number that represents the amount of failure protection you have. The bigger the number, the higher your percentage to succeed an enhancement is
you wanted it so here you go When BDO first released in the early years there was only a failed attempt or success to upgrade your weapon or armor. there were no percentages shown like there is today. no enhancement help at all just fail or succeed. no crons to block your gear from downgrading or blowing up your accessories. Black Desert's upgrade system was BRUTAL players were trying to figure out how to tip the odds in their favor. there were rumors in the community that for every failed attempt to upgrade your weapon or armor the PERCENTAGE chance that your upgrade would succeed would go UP. No one knew by how much. BDO didn't tell you this like I said just a rumor. and Pearl Aybyss would not confirm or deny the rumor for years. so players came up with a system of going about upgrading stacking failed attempts stacking failed upgrade attempts by means of grabbing armor or weapons off the marketplace or drops that had solid marketplace resell value and just do the initial 0 fails up to a certain amount until the failstack got too high and just resell the armor/weapons. then use a new piece of weapon or armor that had lower chance of upgrading maybe like a duo, tri, or tet attempt of regular gear. then if the stack got too high again they would just sell on marketplace and get another even lower enhancement chance piece like boss armor/weapons and just ding them over and over until the stack got super high. The trick was to not bust your failstack. once it got high enough you could use tri/tet/pen attempts on boss gear( because they were rumored to have a super low chance to upgrade) to continue to stack your failed attempts until it was high enough that you could start using on gear you ACTUALLY wanted to upgrade. like pen attempts on boss gear or high level accessory enhancements. hence the name failstack failstack = stack of failed attempts at upgrading higher the failstack higher the percentage chance that your would succeed your enhancement it took years for Pearl Abyss to finally come clean and put the percentages in the game. before then players were passing around excel sheets. I think crons came first to help block downgrading your gear. then PA put advice of valks in the game to help players build an initial failstack like for example a +30 advice of valks scroll that gave you 30 failstacks so you didnt have to go and fail a bunch of attempts and blow up a bunch of armor and silver in the process. then naderrs band and all the enhancement help that's there now like valk cry. oh and you HAD to upgrade. getting a pen boss gear anything on the Marketplace was literally nonexistent. you had to go hunt EVERY MP because every server had its OWN MP economy not like it is now where they're all integrated. BUT unfortunately this is where BDO got it's p2w reputation. because you could buy memory frags and artisans memory so it was WAY cheaper to repair boss gear if you swiped and when crons came along same thing you could purchase in shop pretty sure or buy costumes and melt them for crons but there's been so many QoL fixes a lot of that has been toned down in recent years and there's so many events and ways to get mats for upgrading it's a million times better today but OG failstacking was an artform. Players literally would make a profitable lifeskill from just selling armor/weapons that they failstacked on don't get us started on hidden bonus stats on end game gear...
@@1trillions i love you! So interesting, I wished there was a RU-vidr that explained this type of Lore/history of the game, for me getting to know this type of stories makes me love the game even more, while understanding it better. It was an awesome read 👍
