I love this series. What a joy to listen to this while working on things around the house. Thank you for being you, Jaabo.

There are far too many people that are looking for a fight. The bully is always looking for a response. Your lack of response to the child in the cafeteria most likely ate him up.

Thanks for your candour, Jaabo. I can understand why the event upset you. I'm glad it has been resolved. The other day, during a conversation, I found myself using a turn of phrase which, even a few months ago, I would not have had a second thought about. It wasn't remarked upon at the time by anybody else. And while it wasn't a racial slur, with hindsight I quickly realised it was inapprpriate and I may have inadvertently caused offence. It played on my mind for some time. I will strive to do better in future.

Thanks for the video. Glad to hear you aren't pushing yourself too hard by opening the store earlier then you should. I am glad that the 'Sunday morning issue' got resolved, it bothered me as well and I had a hard time sleeping Sunday night because of it. I agree, there are some things that cross the line when it comes to joking. It bothered me so much because I feel like we are all a big family, that is why I always introduce my videos by saying hello to my 'LEGO RU-vid Family'; because that is how I feel towards everyone on here. I know all families are dysfunctional in some way, mine included, but I try to avoid the drama as much as possible. When I notice issues on a friend's video, I try to privately point it out to them; I can only hope they would do the same for me. Funny, my family also always thought we were partially Native American. Did a DNA test - mostly just from the U.K., no Native American at all. There was a clip of you on someone else's channel where you said you don't feel like you are influential followed by me doing one of my first PABLO's. Yes, I find you to be influential to my RU-vid life and appreciate all of your content, even when it is not LEGO related. Thank you for being who you are.

I share a similar family story jaabo. My dead grandparents on my dad’s side grew up after the depression and their primes were during WWII. From the early 50s to the mid 60s they had 4 girls and 2 boys including my father. They lived in poverty in a 3 bedroom house. My dad and uncle once shared the garden shed. They still enjoyed life. My dad was in an engagement that ended without marriage and my older brother was born in 1985. My dad married my mother in 1996 and had me in 2001 and my sister in 2003. My brother works as a full time middle school teacher and a part time Aussie rules football goal umpire in the Australian Football League, check out Pat McAfee’s podcast. I’m in university right now and living life comfortably. My dad is a reliable breadwinner pulling home more than the average wage and my mother also works part time. My grandfather on my mum’s side died 4 years ago after my mum’s sister was in a civil law case fighting for unpaid wages. She settled with terms of not returning to her old job. My mum’s dad owned a unit home which we inherited, renovated and sold. My household and my mum’s sister split the home sale so now we have less than 20K AUD on our mortgage. My mum’s sister is now couch surfing with her boyfriend but she has her cut and settlement. Overall my dad went from living in poverty to raising 3 children and providing for my family greatly. I’m now living in the upper middle class in the “luckiest” country in the world (Australia). With what my dad has gone through I’ve learned the true meaning of hard work because I wouldn’t have the privilege of living in the upper middle class if it wasn’t for my dad. I share your spirit of hard work so I can sympathise with your crazy week and busy times of hard work working for AT&T and bell south

Hey Jaabo This was a really interesting podcast and the message it contained is the most important lesson any of us can learn. The incidents you dealt with growing up was the main reason I became a police officer. I believed, naively, I could made a difference. Unfortunately at the time I joined the police it was impossible to be the policeman I wanted to be. I remember vividly patrolling in a marked vehicle with two older Constables, I was what was referred to as a Woodentop, a probationer Constable. We had just had rioting in North London where a fellow officer was murdered and we were out patrolling, looking for hotspots of potential trouble. The language used and the primate sounds these two experienced officers were making, made me sick to the pit of my stomach. And, to raise a complaint to senior officers was suicidal to ones career. I left the job not much later! During my later career, I worked in broadcasting regulation. The Commission I worked for had a published list of 28 words. Ranging from bad to very very bad. When we published an annual update of the list, it was by far our most popular news story in the tabloids. More interesting than the top 28 words, the number one being very bad, were the comments we received from people who saw no wrong in using such words or racial slurs or the almost casual use of “retard” a phase so frequently used, it surprised users when you had to explain what it meant! Thanks for doing this and putting yourself out there. You are Jaabo and that’s why I watch you!

Great video, BrickTsar. I enjoyed your talk about how perceiving others based on the way they looked can be dangerous. I think more people need to hear about how making presumptions is damaging to people's character and to society as a whole. I want to thank you for being a Good person.

19:36 I definitely understand that. And luckily despite my upbringing, especially my racist dad, I never inherited that trait. He would always tell a story about work and emphasize on someone's race if they weren't white and how that person made a mistake. Or even driving, calling out people on the phone while he holds his below the steering wheel. I'm from mostly Italian descent, On my mom's side lots of percentages of various European descent. so I'm caucasian through and through, but I still don't treat other people any worse because they look different.

If one were made of Lego, one's bricks would be of many colors, connected without care of pattern. Same would be true of us all; each made in joy, made for one another. :3

I agree you got to treat people you want to be treated everyone is human there is no need for ignore! The high school I went to there was no racism, but they use to pick short guys, skinny guys or that dont keep up their look and do bad stuff to them like throw them in the trash can, pull there under wear up, just make them carry there books! It was just a thing, how Freshmen was treated bad! Poor guy's, it was mostly seniors doing these things! I also grew up in big family and made it out ok alot walking!

Nice to see your honesty. We're all part of the human race, that's all that matters. ...one of the reasons why I still don't like it that Lego felt the need to make minifigs with specific identifiers, like skin colour and facial characteristics. There was no need, except for when they're pastiching a movie character in a theme. Even with sports characters, just a shirt style and logo/number is enough to identify a person. I thought that was the whole point of the yellow skin colour, that it could represent anyone you wanted it to, equally. The first time Lego did this was with the maxifigure Indian canoo set. I mean, why? There really was no need at all to have red heads and hands. Playmobil managed it perfectly well without differentiating skin colour, so why did Lego do it! ...and continues to do it? It's just wrong and un-neccessary.

"Be excellent to each other." Wise words from 2 excellent dudes and an appropriate video title 🙂 I 100% agree with what you said about your coworker and the guy with the messed up yard. It gets on my nerves when people bring up race when it's irrelevant, "So this black lady came to our store bought a sandwich and was angry it was made wrong." Who cares what color she was?! Just tell the story. Ugh!

We r all mutts. No shame in that. The people who came before us don't choose who we will become. I have chest hair only on half of my body and I'm part Japanese and my family jokes that the bald half is Japanese and the hairy side is my "American" half.. Oh well... Race doesn't make the person. Experience's and the way one's parents raise a child r what makes a person. Parents need to do a better job raising kids and kids need to rise above the hate and stupidity and do the right thing. And at the same time, people with thin skin need to learn to take a joke when something is said with absolutely no cruel intent.

Think you are right to have high standards for what you consider acceptable behaviour. The world can be pretty grim at times and things will only get better if we are all prepared to take a stand against bigotry when we encounter it. It isn't always easy and can have a cost but it is important as silence can be taken as acceptance. On a more positive note I have always been struck by the friendliness and decency of most in the Lego RU-vid community.
