Be still, my soul, The Lord is on thy side Bear patiently, the cross of grief or pain Leave to thy God, to order and provide In every change, He faithful will remain Be still, my soul, thy best thy heavenly friend Through thorny ways, leads to a joyful end Be still, my soul, thy God doth undertake To guide the future as He has the past Thy hope, thy confidence, let nothing shake All now mysterious shall be bright at last Be still, my soul, the waves and wind still know His voice who ruled them while He dwelt below In You I rest, in You I found my hope In You I trust, You never let me go I place my life within Your hands alone Be still, my soul Be still, my soul, the hour is hastening on When we shall be forever with the Lord When disappointment, grief and fear are gone Sorrow forgot, love's purest joys restored Be still, my soul, when change and tears are past All safe and blessed, we shall meet at last In You I rest, in You I found my hope In You I trust, You never let me go I place my life within Your hands alone Be still, my soul In You I rest, in You I found my hope In You I trust, You never let me go I place my life within Your hands alone Be still, my soul Be still, my soul Be still, my soul
@@beldengi But why be no nasty about it? My chamber choir sang this arrangement and were super impressed a MN Senior managed to create this beautiful arrangement (as we're a Minnesota-based group). Why not celebrate young artists in a time when we need the arts so desperately? Yes, the original is also a fantastic classic, but there's no need to discredit this arrangement on a video that showcases it.
@@beldengi I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you don't really know much about music. There is a difference between a composer (original "author" of a piece of music) and an arranger who changes things such as harmony, tempo, etc. to change the overall impact. Just listen to a couple of different videos of Finlandia and you can find subtle differences, including completely different lyrics
i lost count count how many times I keep coming back to this performance. The group work so well together and it sounds effortless. I searched for other hymns by the same group but this appears to be the only one.

My brother played me Finlandia (Sibelius) when I was about 12 and I was crying by the end of it. We sometimes sing this hymn at church, but not these amazing harmonies obviously. Quite a revelation.
I learned this song during my confirmation classes. That occurred in the mid 1960’s. I seldom hear this song. This performance was nothing short of perfection. I am deeply moved.
Thanks very much. Three of my grandparents were born in Finland, and this hymn was sung at my mother's funeral. You can imagine that it was very moving. (Doug)
gosh darn-it that tall skinny redhead (the girl) takes my soul with her , soaring into the heavens every time she lifts off......NO ONE like her.....most delightful
My parents both loved this hymn. I could never sing this in church without getting emotional. Just as i did just now. Thank you. I shall play this many times, I'm sure
Of all the interpretations of this piece that I have heard, this is by far the most beautiful and most inspiring I have ever heard. This has long been one of my favorite pieces of music to sing, and it was very gratifying to add my voice to your mix and enjoy how good you guys make me sound. :) Your interpretation is magical. Thank you for your music and for sharing your gifts with us here. I just discovered you last fall, and when I did I immediately ordered two of your CDs and gave them as christmas gifts to my lady. She was as appreciative of your talents as I am. I hope I get to hear a lot more of you folks before I start pushing up daisies.
Eric Liddell's favourite Hymn.........remember ....film....Chariots of Fire 🔥🦁........he died in Prisoner of war camp in 1945.....and gone on..... to be with the Lord ..... Yeshua Ha Mashiach 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Me too. But you also have to include hundreds of hours of personal practice, memorizing and ensemble training. They make it look and sound easy. it is horrendously difficult. It is not magic. It is HARD work. Sanjosemike (no longer in CA)
Beautiful and inspiring. Worth noting that the words were written by a German pietist lady in the 17th century. The music is part of Sibelius' Finlandia, a hymn challenging Russian oppression of Finland at the time. Matheson only did the arrangement!!
now more people realize they do have a soul, that is so huge , it was made for the eternal God and will fly to Jesus if they have known Him and accepted Him in this life. Beautiful rendition and who would expect anything less from this group. Thank you again
I’m there with that bass line. Matheson I think knows he was a channel, a ‘hollow reed’ transmitting what was given to him. I don’t believe great art is ever ‘made’ only the person is found that gives expression to it. May all who pursue callings rest in this. Oh, and practice like mad.
If I had a wish of what I wanted VOCES8 to perform it would be this list: 1. Moonlight Sonata - Beethoven (I don't think he will mind) 2. Top Gun opening theme - off vocal (no versed vocals, just the backing music to the vocals) for example listen to: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gbyoNrwA_Gk.html 3. The Little Old Lady (From Pasadena) by Jan Berry with Don Altfeld and Roger Christian; recorded about 1964 by pop singers, Jan & Dean - recording quality not very good so musical interpretation will be challenged as to how to produce and execute to VOCES8 standard. [In my opinion, all recordings heard of this song are too slow thus making it a boring listening session - VOCES8 can bring some life and fun encore type song]
