Recorded in 2009 - the exile band: un|broken album
a bruised reed He will not break, and a faintly burning wick He will not quench
Isaiah 42:3
All of us have tasted brokenness at some stage of our lives. To deny this also exists in our walk of faith would be dishonest as we find ourselves sometimes confused, even angry as we try to understand God’s will and purpose. This album emerges from that struggle, so clearly seen in the Psalms, of God’s people longing to serve Him with a fervour born of love, despite doubts and despair at the evil in the world, the church and ourselves that causes us to see ‘through the glass darkly’.
Having been broken before Him though, with the reality of our sins and our failures, we find ourselves un|broken, forgiven, lifted in praise and adoration of our Lord Jesus Christ, the King of glory, Lord of lords and the Author of our faith.
This album is dedicated to all those involved in the struggle of life, love and righteousness with the prayer of the exile band that you will come through the battles to know Him closer than a brother.
Be Still
(Psalm 46:10)
by Rebecca Hardie
Soloist: Rebecca Hardie
"Be Still and know that I am God" Psalm 46 v 10. Will I ever learn to just be still and KNOW that He is GOD? I wrote this song when I knew that I had to stop fighting Him for what I wanted when I wanted it, and instead 'be still' and trust Him. To "finally stop and feel the peace I've longed to know" was a challenge - it still can be.
As I stand in the embers of the life I used to know,
The dreams I used to dream;
This was the life I gave You, Your plans should have prospered me,
Now I don’t understand.
I hear You say “Be still and know that I am God”,
Yet I turn away and try to make it on my own.
I’ve been fighting this fire for far too long now
Trying to hold onto what’s mine.
I never thought that You’d want so much of me
When I gave you all I am.
I hear You say “Be still and know that I am God”,
Yet I turn away and try to make it on my own.
And I know there’s no more fighting You
As exhausted I kneel to pray.
And there in my surrender
New life begins to grow.
I hear You say “Be still and know that I am God”,
And as I finally stop I feel the peace I’ve longed to know.
