Don't drink diet soda. WATER.

My sister laughs and she calls me the "evil purveyor of water." But I got her kids used to drinking water ans now she has started including a bottle of cold water in their lunch boxes instead of boxed juice.

Superb documentary, raised some really good issues. I'm a personal trainer in London, UK. Obesity is on the increase here in London, but one thing we don't suffer from is 'food deserts'. Even the poorest areas have street markets which sell bowls of fruit and vegetables. One of the biggest problems is the junk food industry. You can't walk for more than 5 minutes in London without passing a junk food outlet. And the supermarkets are full of high salt/sugar ready meals and fizzy drinks.

Eating in the car is one of the worst habits to develop and once you start doing it it's really hard to stop. Don't eat in the car! You are more likely to eat junk and to eat mindlessly if you do.

I did not exercise and I lost 60 pounds in 6 months. I ate lots of fruits and veggies; I quit white bread and white rice; I ate eggs; I ate greek yogurt; I ate oatmeal; I ate homemade soup with healthy veggies; no junk food with msg, high fructose corn syrup , no additives; no fast food; small portions of food; 1 cup of coffee per day; 1 cup of black tea daily; no packaged of factory made food; willpower; incentives every time I weighed myself weekly with a loss of 2.5 pounds per week; no cereal; lots of beans/legumes; lots of nuts; 4 cookies per month with milk; no restaurants; and ignoring hunger pangs. YOU CAN TOO; if you wish. I went from a size 42 to a 34. Greg.

It's shocking to hear adults saying nobody taught them how to eat healthy. It might be because I'm European, but this sounds really crazy

I've had several bariatric surgery - all failed which I am glad about, I realised what it was that was keeping me fat and constantly hungry, I was undernourished even though I was eating plenty of veggies and other processed food, I've now switched to eating mostly meat and fat and have lost nearly 35kg in the last 5mths I'm starting to feel healthy again, still got plenty to lose but I'm confident it will happen doing the Carnivore WOE I'm no longer a slave to food and wanting to eat all the time. I was constantly hungry before switching to a all animal and fat diet. I recently had a blood test and all my results had improved remarkably, cholesterol had dropped down significantly, AC1c has improved. If you want to be healthy and live a happy life again stop eating things that come in boxes with a list of ingredients - just eat fresh fruit, veggies and meat and if that isn't working just eat meat and fat and see how quickly your health turns around for the better.

If a doctor can’t answer a declarative “Yes.” to the question “Do some patients find themselves obese because of lifestyle choices they make?” We have a LONG road ahead of us. There’s room to point out the other factors after that, but the answer is YES.

18:11 You blood pressure should be 120 over 80! 60 is the diastolic cutoff for hypotension.

Yeah when I used to donate blood/plasma they wouldn't let me if it was under 60.

You are spot on! This is the latest Big Pharma lie to get half the world on blood pressure medication. They did exactly the same with statins by telling us our cholesterol needs to be lowered to the point where it is harmfully low. We need cholesterol and we need a reasonable blood pressure!

Niki is a role model and proof that as a responsible person, she can stretch out and provide healthy meals for her family. Scratch cooking goes so much further with basics like our grandparents used to do. Prepping and preparing pre made stuff helps when you are hungry and cuts down on the non nutritional, pre made stuff. Thanks for including an example of how it can be done. Instead of blaming external reasons for why it can’t be done, this is how it can be done for the whole family.

now people are claiming they don't have access to large grocery stores and that is the problem? in america? that is crap. and it has nothing to do with black and white. it has to do with boredom and desire. i use food stamps myself. And i discovered that when i stopped buying fun food like Doritos and cookies and ice cream etc then i had more money to spend on fresh veggies and unprocessed good food. You can't help people by filling them with self pity. get real and teach accountability.

YES, you are correct! Buying vegetables instead of processed sugary crap costs half as much. It's easy to find some seasonal veggies in abundance and on special. Just go easy on the spuds and other high carb vegetables. Low carb, low sugar and avoidance of processed food is now proven to be the way to go. If you're Italian, ditch the pasta! Also avoid low fat rubbish as it's got more sugar and latest studies show that natural fats are good for us, even animal fats.

You’re ignorant, and have obviously never lived somewhere where you have to take two buses, across town, to reach decent food. Corner stores and the like often sell crap, and larger groceries stores may be nearly inaccessible for parents with no car, and young children. Can you imagine coming home after a full day of work, and spending 3-4 hours getting groceries? That’s what happens. And trying to keep things cold while you wait for those two buses, and juggling bags and kids on a crowded bus? It’s easy to judge- how about trying compassion next time.

5’ 8.5”. 171lbs. BMI=25.6 OVERWEIGHT. Heaviest I’ve ever been in my LIFE. (Used to average 140-150 at 5’ 9.5”) Gotta suck it up and deal with reality: I’m a 42-yr-old fatass. (Despite eating a plant-based diet of mostly whole foods, I just eat TOO DAMN MUCH. And I’m a lazy f*ck too.) 😂

"...which, unfortunately, at that point, as a single man, became a mainstay of my diet" - meaning what, exactly? That you didn't have a little woman to cook for you and look after your health? Why couldn't you step up and take care of yourself?
@LinGin91
@LinGin91 4 года назад
Why do you have to say, “everything in moderation”? That makes it sound like the basis of your diet can be entirely made up of small quantities of trash food. I think it is healthier to think in terms of a “treat” regarding food that’s low quality but tastes good. Implies clearly that it should be rare and infrequent but not off the table always/forever. Generally it’s NOT “okay” but once in a blue moon it’s acceptable.

Bariatric surgery is a rip-off. In Australia (and no doubt elsewhere) greedy surgeons coupled with less than desirable rebates from government and health funds means that bariatric surgery is viewed as cosmetic surgery that is unaffordable even for many with private health insurance. With a gap payment of at least $5,000 it is something really only the wealthy can afford. The surgery takes only an hour or so with minimal cost for consumables, particularly for stomach stapling which is one of the procedures. (Acknowledged that gastric banding device costs more), so why the massive cost? Bariatric surgery is NOT cosmetic surgery. For individuals to lose often half their body weight, it saves ongoing chronic health issues and associated future costs to governments and health funds.

I think we're going to have to regulate fast/processed foods like cigarettes. People can't be educated/trusted to make the right decisions. Sure people still smoke but it's a stigma and the numbers keep falling - we can't save everyone but smoking is not the problem it used to be. Same with obesity...get the #s down and save many, but not all. While I acknowledge that tons and tons of foods are loaded with hidden sugars, people have GOT to make better choices until the day comes when the gov't decides to get serious about this. You CAN buy better foods, you don't HAVE to go to McDonald's, you CAN choose to work out instead of watch the idiot box. Actually, you can work out WHILE you watch it. It's actually easier and less time-consuming to plan meals out for the week. It's cheaper to buy frozen chicken breast, salmon etc, oatmeal, plain yogurt, etc in bulk. Yes your diet will be "boring" but you will get used to it and have the peace of mind that you are taking care of yourself. Just STOP for a few minutes, sit down, enjoy the food you have made for yourself. Also with exercise, it's the key to maintaining any progress you make. The irony is people claim they are too stressed or tired or have no time to exercise. Maintenance requires 150 minutes a week, or 30 min a day, five days a week. You have time to do that. If you want to lose, 90 minutes a day would be ideal. I mean don't sit down in front of the tv or your computer and say you don't have time. Plus once you get used to exercising, it actually is a natural stress reducer and will give you more energy. I know running 4-5 times a week keeps me sane, relaxed, and mellow. Like a reset button. Looking good is a bonus. You can't expect everyone to make your choices for you - you only get this one chance to take care of your body, it's up to you...and that means you can ALSO take credit when you are in excellent shape and health! When I was growing up in the 80s and 90s, there weren't so many fat kids. If you drive by a school today, it is horrifying to see how overweight/obese they are. Times have changed, rapidly.
