The always crowded Sandpiper Beacon,I believe it got so popular initially because for years and years they ran weekly ads in the New Orleans Times Picayune,The Birmingham News, and the Atlanta Journal Constitution. The power of advertising I guess, and it's still super popular today. Also Cliff Stiles from Birmingham and another man took over the Old Dutch way back when. I stayed there as a child with my parents and sat outside our room on the steps at night listening to the live band playing in the adjacent nite club. Cliff Stiles later developed a Holiday Inn in downtown PC, and also built the 1st Holiday Inn on the beach.
