Beach Fishing for small eyed rays -
In this video I make my way back down to the same beach I fished earlier in the week to target some more small eyed rays.
This video is ideal for beginners that want to learn how to catch rays from the beach.
I will talk you through the baits and rigs I like to use when fishing for rays from the beach here on the channel Island of Jersey.
After having a successful session earlier in the week whilst beach fishing for small eyed rays I decided to head back out and give it another go.
I was only out for a short session but I had high hopes after the previous trip that I’d be able to find a fish or two.

Great size fish Sam. Well chuffed ay. Last fish a doggie. ‘ probably a good time to go’ :). Tried elsewhere with squid stuffed with razor and sandeel wrap on a pennel rig. Hoped to avoid the doggies. Two at once on the pennel ; pain in the arse greedy buggers.

The rays come much closer up the beach than the dogs do matey id say try not to cast to far if your getting loads of dogs.. sometimes you cant avoid them though.

try west side for the rays bud.. you’ll pick up nice undulates from st Caths though this time of year

How do you rate the rods mate? I’m after something for winter fishing for codling etc with 6/7oz

I like the rods mate but id say if you want to cast 6/7oz maybe look at something slightly heavier. Personally don't like to overload the rods on casting weights etc so although rated for 6oz+ bait i wouldn't want to go any heavier on the lead bud im sure theyd do it it and be more than capable but i used a heavier setup for that like a leeda icon power. Veals is a good website to check of different rods and the specs bud.. Thanks for watching buddy.

Are the rays still in January and February, or only in autumn

We tend to get more small eyed rays making their way further up the beaches during autumn… however there’s a chance you could catch them all year round. Undulate rays would be an ideal target for January and February here in Jersey. Thanks for watching it’s much appreciated!
