Supports my books tinyurl.com/FishingTheBucktail and tinyurl.com/season-on-the-edge. Surfcasting for striped bass with bucktails in rough surf from storm swells.
Thank you so much MR. Skinner. Your videos are so informative. I get a great picture of how I can benefit from your lessons and apply them while fishing. I have often used your suggestions while kayaking. I look forward to your next vid.
John, you’re like the “Mad Scientist” of Fishing!!! I Love watching your videos and applying your information. Thank you very much for sharing. Be well.
All very good tips. I always find it interesting how close to shore that I find some big fish. A couple of weeks ago a fellow caught a 50" plus striper in that range.
John I first starting surf fishing in mid 1970s Was out of it 35 years. Back in head and shoulders Bc of many of your informative videos. Thanks! Montauk to the cape and loving it in retirement years. I think you’d like some access Points I discovered west of fisher island 😎
Hi Jonh. Thanks for this video.thrre are a lot of lessons you have given.your fishing in my backyard and all I fish this year is a buck tail and pork. Yes I still have some.I have not had any fish yet this spring and last week.I fish from a boat from Fire Island inlet to sailors haven.I have heard people say you can't fish a buck tail wrong but I must be doing something not right!Do you have any tips?
Hey John, I live in South Jersey and love to fish. I catch flounder sometimes and bluefish, but I have never caught a Striper. I am not quite sure why. I have thrown lures in the surf, the bay, and wherever I can. I am knowledgeable in Freshwater Bass fishing and understand how they capture their food, and where they live. I tried using the same tactics for Striper Fishing but they have not seem to work thus far. I would like to say that I love your videos, and they are very informative. Watching you catch Stripers in the Surf is very neat, and it allows me to see that you really can catch Stripers close to shore and in many different conditions. You are very knowledgeable about Striper Fishing, and I just would like to inform you on how your videos have helped me understand fishing for Stripers in the Surf Much better, than I did before.bi am going to use the tactics that you have shown in your videos this fall, and I am confident that I can catch a few Stripers in the surf, because of your tips. So thank you.
hello John, I see you are a good fisherman and I'm following in RU-vid because I see it can learn more how to use the bucktail in the beach. ¿ I never been Fishing in Montauk and I dont know that place as well i just saw Montauk by Google map. could you please can tell me a advice about where I have ever to go there to use the bucktail and super strike. Also i will go on September 3. please and thank you
Hey John, do you have a clinch knot on the tactical anglers clip? i havent been doing that i just use the loop you used for the fluke bucktail rig and bring the loop into the clip. should i start the clinch knot?
I am from the South Shore where you are fishing. Long Beach. When when I was a kid, I fished on the rocks on Ohio Ave. Last Striper was a 26lbs. Still have the picture. Where are you at?
Your videos and books are great. What kind of mount do you use for the Go Pro? Head, chest? I just received a Go Pro as a gift and was thinking about using it while surfcasting.
Could you use your Van Staal 200 of it had heavier line on it from what I read I holds about the same amount of line as a 706z. Also do you think that the VS 200 would be good on a Lamiglas GSB 132 1M with 1 foot cut from the butt?
+Daniel C Surfcasting I'm pretty sure a GSB1321M with a foot off the butt is a 1201M. Personally I would prefer a 250 on a 10-footer, but many will say a 200 is fine. Line capacity isn't that important. It's reel size, weight, spool diameter...
You have the best videos and a lot of practice. I'm looking to get an 11' surf rod paired with a penn spinfisher V 6500. Curious on what rods in that size are balanced with the reel.
John, how many yards of braid do you spooled on that 706? I've heard that reel doesn't take to braid well? I've got mono on mine but would love to switch over. Thanks!
hey love the videos. you should invest in a 30 dollar usb microphone when you do your voiceovers. the sound will be insanely better, and no cracking like you are getting.
John, you mention that you're fishing a 2oz bucktail on gsb 132 1m blank, which is I believe rated 4+. In many of your other videos you fish a 3/4oz jig on a 120 1l, rated 2-4. is it common for you to fish your rods below the weight range? how much ability to load the rod tip, if any, do you feel you lose throwing a 3/4oz bucktail with a rod rated 2-4? Thanks!
my rod is rated 2-5 and I can throw a 1oz pretty good not as good as a 2oz but a 1oz bucktail gets out there pretty good. it's not just the rod but also how good you are at casting
I read your book, Fishing the Bucktail (which was phenomenally insightful), and I have a question regarding fishing during that fall versus fishing in the spring. Would you opt for a more dense and/or stout bucktail in the spring with the primary bait being adult bunker? Whereas in the fall you would possibly opt for a longer, more sparse bucktail to mimic the sandeels that are present? Or would those decisions on the bulk of the bucktail be dependent on the conditions of each day and what the fish are responding to? Thanks!
hello Mr. skinner, I was interested in buying about 10 of your bucktails, Mostly 1/2 ounce, 3/4 ounce, 1 ounce, And two ounce. How much would you charge. Thank you
does any know if I can use any of the uncle Josh's or it has to be the #50? and does that stuff go bad? the one I got from the store is kinda beat up by the sun
John Skinner Fishing thanks! I went out last week in ac and the bunker we to far and I only landed one blue. I'm going to head up to lbi sat and give it another go!
John Skinner Fishing actually if I ever see you on the beach I'm buying you a coffee/beer at least ;) I double my fluke catch this season thanks to you
Finished reading "A Season on the Edge" last night. It contains much valuable info, but the real lesson, for me, was how your work ethic. On to your next book. Amazon.com is my next stop. Thanks for all your vids, too.
Good Day John, I like to hit that location this year around same time. I will be traveling from Maine, what is the exact location where your where....? Thanks for your help and great videos, I have learned so much.. Cheers, Roman Scarborough, Maine
Hi John, I own both of your books and am amazed by the amount of information i have learned just buy reading 2 books and subscribing to you! I was wondering if you could make a video on tying bucktails since you talk about it in your book (Fishing The Bucktail). Many Thanks, Sam D.
