Instead of throwing in shiners and such for the bass at the dock, try throwing in bluegill, they’ll likely still target them since they’re conditioned to feed on pretty much anything that hits the water, also could get them to try and feed on the bluegill more on their own.

@703fishing3
@703fishing3 Месяц назад
@@timg2798I’ve watched every video of this pond since day 1, i am aware of that they won’t eat them this is just a proposed option to try and get them to feed on them. It is no secret that for the bass to truly grow they must eat large forage, it costs less energy to eat one big bluegill than 15 shiners. It’s quite common for fish to not move to larger forage even in natural systems as well. I don’t believe the shad are growing to large size either, at least I can’t remember him mentioning it. He has a great opportunity to condition the fish to prey on larger forage through his supplemental dock feeding, and I think it might work.

For a new project, I'd like to see a trout creek/river running down the edge of the farm fields and into the pond. Something like 10 to 20 ft wide and a couple feet deep. Build some holes and pockets throughout the small river for fish to sit in. Supply water with some high-powered pumps and large tubing from the pond. I'm not sure if it could work, but it would be awesome. It's always great to see your pond thriving! Would love to visit and fish it someday.

The fish finder says your water temperature is 86 degrees which is way to hot for trout to survive. You should drop a thermometer to the bottom at the deepest part of the pond to see if the temperature is cold enough that some of the trout could theoretically survive there

Yes, I don't think he should be afraid of the plants that come naturally along the shore. I know he has spent a fortune on it and I love this channel. I watch letsdig youtube channel and he doesn't seem to have this problem with the huge ponds he builds. I wonder if floating lettuce and Iris would help with shade and clarity. They would die off in the first freeze. Maybe the pond guys can help him out with some ideas.
@WereAllThatBored

@@chickenhouse5779 Im not criticizing him when I say this, but the formula he is using is exactly what all pond managers follow if you want a lake that is an underwater desert aside from man made structure. My 10 acre pond in tn. Used 2000 pounds of fertilizer a year. No aration, bluegill, shiners, and gizzard shad, tilapia would die in winter. Purchased 6 trout every fall. Had top water action,in 46 degree water. Yes, bass eat pellets, had about a dozen 4 pounders eating them. Yes, had the biologist shock the pond every spring , around spawning time. Taking out 125 pounds, this controls the over crowding. Any bass 15 inches, or less would be taken out the rest of the year. Never allow Canadian geese in you pond, or comorons.

Our 3 acre pond in Tennessee has been around since the 1880s and will go crazy with what I call moss if we don’t keep a few in the pond. We have tried the chemicals and all that . Nothing works like a grass carp to keep ponds clean. I’m wanting a few of the Florida bass to throw in to get some different genes in the pool soon. Good luck with your pond and fishing. I respect this project endlessly, but you are going about the ecosystem building incorrectly. You should have bass weighing in at 5+ pounds by this point considering the amount of forage and size of the pond. You have stock nearly double or triple the ponds capacity and lowered its ability to hold healthy big bass by stocking a variety of fish like tilapia and trout which reduce the forage amount for the base species.

Maybe time to rename squirrel house to the “Mouse House”. Bring back some of the old Toad Dangler action. There has to be something on five acre pond to pay tribute to toad dangling. Thanks. Great video! 🎣

First time viewer and first comment. It was an extremely interesting and educational video. I did not realize there was so much work that went into successfully creating a thriving lake/pond biome. Thanks for sharing.

Hey quick thought is to maybe test out another scale, you could be double checking the weights to make sure their accurate. Also, I wonder for the shots of the fish jumping for Nate is to put the camera nice and low at the water level, you might get some better shots. Thanks for the great content!

You need some aquatic shade structures, a rocky stream would help with aeration and filtration

Incase the talpia doesn't last till next season due to getting to cold you should install some kind of heater to get the water warmed up just enough to keep them life and active along with the rest of your fish in the swimming pond😊

The thing is with Algie waters grow lots plants about the pond they keep it clearer suck up any phosphates & fertilisers than leach in run off when it rains . An easy fix future proofs ponds algie can kill your fish if it gets to toxic levels . Good luck been watching this pond from 1st build impressive learnt a few tricks also cheers!!

Nothing cooler than laying underwater in a pool and looking up during the rain. I understand you won't see much underwater in the 5 acre pond. But on a sunny day with the camera pointing up you should see shadows swim overhead. So I was thinking a camera pointing up where the fish feeders are. You'd have to test to see on what depth. But if it's took dark could always put it on a tripod pointing up off the bottom.

As others have suggested, i think you should start mixing in some smaller bluegill when you do the dock feedings. I feel like thats a guaranteed way to get the bass to start eating them. Also i can't wait until you finally catch Bonnie and Clyde again, really wanna see how good their doing in the pond...ik Bonnie is probably huge now

I have no idea how your videos came on my feed but I’ve watched a few. You gave the most calming voice for your narration with great detail and good sense of humor for descriptions. The ninja turtle cam was a great moment. Keep it up!

This is interesting, raising fish. More than the ponds, the entire area is gorgeous. If I ever find myself with a pond, I will know where to look to for ideas

The bird you were referring to looks to be a Green Heron. If it had more color then I'd say it were a Kingfisher. Either way they're both really cool, I love watching the few I have on my 2 Acre lake. Glad everything's ok with your lake brother!

You guys should use a larger profile bluegill type bait to see if the Crimson Oak bass target larger baits at all.

Very entertaining and informative video! Really enjoyed your game camera vids of the night feeding bucks, does and raccoons. Luckily, I didn't see any evidence of feral pigs. Sure hope you don't have to deal with those critters! Feral pigs are a huge problem here in Florida. Best of luck with everything else!

Mr bama, sure you know this but if not it could help. Southern bass tend to have smaller mouths, as they feed on smaller forage most the time and grow faster. Northern bass have larger mouths and tend to feed on the larger more scarce prey. This may be why the bass are eating the shad and shiners, and not the bluegill as much.

Need shade trees in a hurry that are great hardwood, royal empress. It's a tap root so it goes down deep unless water to frequent, I live in Bama have a few of them. They have great smell of jasmine and purple trumpet flowers. Grows 6ft a yr or more

Throw some hybrid stripers in there. They will eat some of the bass to help keep their population in check. They are also fun to catch and eat

Next time (hopefully not) but if you’re able to remember.. remove the battery from whatever is submerged before removing from the water. The electronics are usually fine underwater. It’s just when you pull them out and you introduce a “hotspot” and that’s when things short out and cause problems
