nothing much to say in this review except that i liked this book a lot :-) but i want to say something about escapism, which i mentioned in the video but thought more about while i was editing this. it is an absolute privilege to try and find spaces that help you feel comfort, because many people right now can't find any comfort anywhere. in every corner, there are structures and systems that have failed them, have been designed to exclude them, have the single intention of keeping them in the margins. i wanted to upload this review because it's a book i enjoyed and i wanted to recognize that, but i also don't want this to suggest that what's happening in the US can be or should be ignored in favor of fun fiction. if you are able to find peace in literature or other forms of creative media, i hope you can find that, but i also know that it's not possible for everyone. please know that i have been reading and learning and donating (at first, to the minnesota freedom fund, and then to the black visions collective), and even that is not enough, because until there is justice, there is no peace.
