This is the last in a series of six demonstration videos showing how to make a bead crochet rope bracelet. It is a companion to the book Crafting Conundrums: Puzzles and Patterns for the Bead Crochet Artist, by Ellie Baker and Susan Goldstine, available in December 2014 from A K Peters/CRC Press. The book's website is www.crcpress.co..., and its Facebook page is / craftingconundrums . Go to • Bead Crochet Tutorial ... for a playlist of the entire video series.
Our thanks to Andrew Paul Keiper and Justin Foreman from the St. Mary's College of Maryland Library Media Center, who helped produce this video series.
In this video, you will learn how to sew the ends of a bead crochet rope together to make a bracelet that appears completely seamless.

I’ve been so frustrated trying to bead crochet. I can never get past the first two rows. I appreciate the visual with pony beads. Excellent tutorials.

Thank you! I hope these help you get past the first few rounds. I know it took me a while to get the hang of bead crochet and a little longer to be really comfortable with it.

Thanks for this tutorial! I like the way you secure the invisible join with a loop. But I am certainly going to apply this technique!

What a great video! I have been making crochet bracelets for years: several years and have always had trouble with the invisible join. (It goes with being left handed😊) I have 5 bracelets ready to be joined (can you tell I’ve been avoiding joining them?) and I’m going to try your method to see if it works better for me.🧑🏻‍🦳 Thanks again, I know it’s going to help, Patty

Thank you so much for sharing your expertise ... I like the way you have used a large beaded bracelet to demonstrate the different techniques. One thing that doesn't work well for my age and eyesight is that the video is not closeup enough...I strain to get a good view and this makes the video not very enjoyable...but, I think you are a very good instructor...and I really do appreciate your work.

Glad to hear that the video worked for you in full screen. I learned in making these videos that it is challenging to show all the little details clearly. Happy beading!

This is best series on bead crochet.. I fully understand it now ..thank you making these so clearly. Can I use Hama beads? They are cylindrical in shape but big to practice with.
@susangoldstine6636
@susangoldstine6636 9 лет назад
jan sampson Thanks! I've not seen Hama beads before, but looking at pictures of them online, I suspect they would work. With the cylindrical shape, I think they are to pony beads what Delicas are to regular seed beads. As long as the yarn is thick enough, you should be okay. You might find the bead crochet rope a little less bendable because of the bead shape. (Delica bracelets are often a bit stiffer than seed bead bracelets.) If you try Hama beads, please let me know how they work.

Hi, I am a little bit confused about the last stitch at the of the crochet bracelet. I noticed that you do a thread over and crochet a stitch with no bead a pull through to finish. Other videos I have watched go through the rope at the end and come through the bead before the last stitch to close the end . Is thee a reason why you prefer the way you finish the last stitch on the closing end like that. Thank you for your reply. Patricia

I'm fairly sure that either way works fine. I think I tried both and decided that the last bead seemed a little more stable with the fastening-off step, but it could just be that I got into the habit of doing it this way. As I mention in the video, I personally sew a bracelet shut with the tail from the starting end. That may be why the other videos don't fasten off after the last bead is stitched in; I could imagine that the small extra bump of yarn/thread might get in the way if you're sewing from the finishing end.

This series was very helpful. I have been afraid to try the invisible join. Your instructions were very clear and I feel more confident now. Question, I have only done 6 rounds. Is there an advantage to doing 5 rounds, or how do you decide which is appropriate?
@susangoldstine6636
@susangoldstine6636 8 лет назад
+Linda Courtney Henderson Thanks! The main advantage to doing a 5-around bracelet when you're learning is just that it takes fewer beads than a 6-around. But 6-around works just as well, and you can find patterns (in our book and others) from 4-around to 10-around and higher.

how many beads do u need to make an average size 6 bead pattern bracelet?
@teressa7666

How long do you make the bracelet? For someone with a size 6 wrist for example? Thanks.
@susangoldstine6636
@susangoldstine6636 8 лет назад
+S Soutache (simplysoutache) Honestly, I generally wing it based on past experience. I don't know that much about official wrist sizes, since we found in writing bead crochet patterns that there is a huge amount of variation in the actual size of beads within a given seed bead size number. In general, you want to string more beads than you need and crochet until the bracelet is long enough to roll over your bunched up hand. For a five-around in size 8 seed beads, I'd string around 450 beads, and for a 6-around in size 11 seed beads, I'd string around 750. The bead crochet patterns in our book specify how much to string for each bracelet, with notes about how much flexibility there is in sizing. (Some patterns with larger motifs give you fewer length options.)

As the saying goes, it's available wherever books are sold--Amazon, Barnes & Noble, etc. But the publisher's website periodically has sales that make it cheaper there: www.crcpress.com/product/isbn/9781466588486. In fact, there's one on right now...

It's unfortunate that this video was not useful to you. Not all people learn in the same way; if you are struggling with the invisible join in bead crochet, you might try Anne Benson's video tutorial (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-wtxSkf_JttA.html). It includes computer animations that give you a more unobstructed view of the process. Also, as explained in the accompanying text, this video is part of a series, and it assumes that either you have watched the earlier videos or that you already know how to make bead crochet ropes. If either is not the case, I would not expect this video to be very informative on its own. Good luck!
