Beaglebone Black LESSON 2: Getting Started 

Hello Paul your videos are great I just got my Beaglebone but you explain everything perfect even when I'm using Ubuntu instead of Windows . everything is working. thankyou and I hope you continue this videos.

Thanks!! I've been stuck on the BBB Ethernet Sharing problem for weeks now; none of the other instruction sets mention the proper order of cabling/power up to get an assigned IP address.

Hi Paul great video. Thanks for you tutorial on the BBB. There seem to be little information or users in the UK unlike the raspberry PI so great job. The BBB has great potential for the hobby / tinkering shop .Maybe you could do some hardware videos in the future for the BBB. Once again thanks best regards David UK

In a linux machine all you need is "vinagre" remote desktop viewer and use the same steps as in the windows tightvnc viewer. I think the linux connection is a lot easier to install ,no restart required and it has a specific vnc protocol setting that makes it easier to connect.

Hi Paul, This is a great tutorial series. I followed your tightvnc installation guidelines and stumbled upon a problem with keyboard mapping. It seems that since 8.3 debian lxqt keyboard is not functioning properly and XKB messed up mapping. I checked that xstartup includes export XKL_XMODMAP_DISABLE=1 for fixing gnome issues, but this is not the case with lxqt. Any ideas on this? All best, mod

Hey Paul!Love the videos! I do have one question thou. When i run TightVNC Viewer, when i go to accesories, the "LXTerminal" is not there for me and the only things i have in accessories is "PCManFm File Manager" and "Vim". Any help or suggestions to get the "LXTerminal" on my accessories? i downloaded most recent Tightnvnc viewer for a 64-bit. Thanks and keep up the good videos!

Hi, wanted to ask what can be done if it is displaying this error: "E: Unable to locate package tightvncserver" Apart from this, I am unable to update drivers on the board either. I used the command: sudo apt-get update. However, it does not update. Please help, thanks.

hi paul i connected the bbb and installed the drivers but the bbb is not responding or for some reason it is not showing connected in the beaglebone website

Thanks for the great tutorials! Just starting with BegalBone green wifi and bbb . Any advice on what image to use? current images don't seem to have a graphical desktop. I have a image of Debian 9.5 2018-10-07 4GB eMMC IoT Flasher but cant seem to get any updates or install anything. repos are gone.

Thanks for the video sir. Im using a BBB wireless where i updated the board with latest image Debian IoT stretch. On opening cloud9 IDE, by default it logs in as dedian@beaglebone and not as root@beaglebone. Pls help me with this ! i want to login as root user.

I cant start the cloud 9 IDE. I just type the direction on my browser (chrome and tryed with firefox as well) and it doesnt work. Does any one have the same problem or know how to fix it?

Hi Paul, I Really enjoy your tutorials on these BBB's ! I am a quality control engineer for a electronics manufacturing company by trade. I have had some experience working with the the BBB, programming, and testing proprietary OS/software /firmware. But I never have had the chance till now to really play with one. I have a project in mind that I have started on, and I need to be able to precisely control the angle of a servo using a calibrated potentiometer, and control a small stepper motors speed with a pot. Could you help me to figure out the code in python to make this work? I am a C programmer, and I know how to write the code for arduino, but I would like to learn how to do this with a BBB. Thank you!! Once Again thank you for the great! tutorials on these BBB's I have built many projects with Rasp pi's But they are no longer cost effective for projects of this type, so I have decided to try a beagle. This initially did not work for me, but after further reading the updated instructions on the website I realized that I wasn't supposed to connect to "192.168.7.2", I was supposed to connect to "beaglebone.local" because I had the ethernet cord plugged in. FYI

Sir your videos were helpful but can show video -the connection between beaglebone and CAN transceiver.

Just a quick question : When I connect via tightvnc, there is no desktop and it aborts. I assume it is because there is no GUI. Any help would be appreciated

I am using a Beaglebone Black wireless so I cannot connect to the ethernet port, I followed the instruction but did not find the correct ip address

I have a issues with tightVNC viewer i get an error message ; The message is Error in TightVNC Viewer Connection parameters (host, port socket, gates) is empty i can ssh in the the BBB with no issues. i can use WinSCP with no issues every thing work fine. MobaXterm 20.2 work with no issues; I think i still need help and i always do the homework Victor Williams

You can also ssh into that ipserial connection can run ifconfig

I have a question about beagle bone, Can I install any raspberry python library in beaglebone? I am trying to use the MPL115A2 I2C temperature/ pressure sensor from adafruit and it seems like they created a library for it called Adafruit_CircuitPython_MPL115A2 The way they suggest to install it is doing: python3 -m venv .env source .env/bin/activate pip install circuitpython-build-tools circuitpython-build-bundles --filename_prefix --library_location . However when I do this I get an error that the commands are failing and that pip is not found. If it is possible to install this library, how should I go about installing it?

Do I need putty if I am using a Linux(Ubuntu) desktop ?

Hello Professor Paul - I have recently unboxed my Beaglebone Black rev C however I don't have my router close to my pc to link the ethernet cable .My connects to my network wirelessly so can I connect the ethernet cable to my PC and then connect the usb to the pc and to the beaglebone ? will that work or is there any issue going that route ?

Find out how - login: root, password: root. also my remote desktop works well now, I have good resolution. But it's not clear for me how did happened. I restored the original xstartup file and the resolution is still excellent. However, thanks for your lessons, they help me a lot to dig into Linux world.

For some reason my putty client is not showing the login prompt and after few secs shows that there's a network error. Please someone help.

Oddly th e IP address my beagle black rev C responded to was not the 192.168.7.2 address but rather it used DHCP to obtain an IP from my router and I had to discover it by using Wireshark. So much for standard tutorial doings.

This is good, but I would be using a Linux machine to connect to the BB If I'm using a BB then I'm all about Linux, If I use Windows then I like to keep it all about windows. Thats, for my personel development. Linux works better if you are connecting to a Linux box & Windows to Windows should work better. Putty works, but..., well Is that just a terminal server? I mean their once were nice tools like hummingbird etc.

I can't log in as root, only in Debian mode, then sudo-su. But I am still not in root mode. Nothing helped, even configuration of sshd_config file. The big problem is the desktop display of remote GUI, this so called tightvnc viewer - it's not displayed correctly. Bad resolution, problems with the keyboards and many others. I didn't tried with root, because I can't login - it requires always a pasword, even if I gave settings PermitRootLogin yes and PermitRootLogin without-password. I am really lost and frustrated with this BBB. There are so many other problems - for example Internet over USB works only in Win7 for me. In Win10 I am forced to use external Ethernet connection.... Ahhhh.... Open-source....
