A little sloppy I just don't have the energy to do everything properly today. It's worth asking is the 18 cfm increase in airflow at the hose worth the additional ~1300 watts? Now I just need a series motor unit to see how they stack up. I would think their retention would be even higher than either machine with a massive suction boost but I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Have one of these at work waiting on motors. Its the dark green one made before this called a 2500 though, identical other than color.

One final thought: these large parallel motor units tend to be far more impressive than the series motor ones. Especially when installed, you notice the vast increase in airflow more than the added suction of a series motor, you feel it when using the attachments as it grips the floor, you feel it at the end of the hose when the suction instantly builds after putting your hand over the end. And you really notice it if you have it with a retracting hose.

hmm I've often wondered which setup was better. I thought perhaps the high suction of the series would allow it to overcome the resistance of the long hose better but that was just a thought. I'd still like to get my hands on an affordable series unit just to see how the numbers compare.

@@Blackheartvacs You really want as much of both sealed suction and airflow as you can get, within reason. Anything above 130-150" is going to make using the nozzle difficult if you have sufficient flow with it. And anything above say about 250 CFM will be completely imperceivable at the hose end, even in the biggest houses. As for the restriction of the hose, the best practice is to deal with the hose and allow everything to breathe better. The newer 1 3/8" inner diameter hoses breathe better than the 1 1/4", and a crushproof hose will always breathe more easily than a wire reinforced vinyl one, because the crushproof one is smoother inside. Your Beam 2900, my SilentMaster S5, or something like my NuTone CV850, and anything of that variety is what I consider to be the sweet spot for performance, based on experience. Here in the "Mile High City" my S5 gets similar numbers to your beam, about 250 CFM and 118" of water lift, at sea level is 190 CFM and 140" of water, as higher altitudes lend themselves to lower suction but better flow of the thin air. I definitely would still get my hands on some series motor unit, because why not!? I've learned a lot by experimenting and then talking to other collectors who work with centrals and comparing my experiences. I've got quite a few units myself.

I thought the 2900s used 3 stage motors, the 2500 does. I have a 3500 with bad motors that I traded in last year, that ones uses these high speed 2 stage things, and they don't last too long.

I'd guess the filtration has something to do with that?

@@Blackheartvacs filtration makes it worse or better. More dirt accelerates wear, but the higher speed is what shortens life: more heat, more bearing wear, more centrifugal force on the fans... The last one is where dirt kills the hardest. Either tearing the fan apart, or vibration that ruins bearings.

Great job and what a beast! Hose wise, the best I've ever measured is 120 CFM, so yours sets a new record! So would you say it uses 2880 Watts?

well that's what it rated for. I can't confirm this though. The outlet's plugs are horizontal rather than vertical. Probably preventing people from destroying 120v devices
