Made my own Whole house central vacuum with a shop vac and plumbing pipe. I wanted the dust, dirt and NOISE outside of the house. In this case, sent out to the garage!
I actually like this set up better than the ones I've seen with the hose already attached, like a built in dust pan. With that long length of PVC is suction still good??
Suction is very good. If I need more suction I could easily upgrade to a bigger vacuum. I recently remodeled my master bathroom and having a vacuum outside kept most of the cutting sawdust and drywall sanding powder away from the rest of the house. Only thing I could do to make it better is to add a dust separator container before the vacuum that I see many on RU-vid making. It would keep my filter cleaner from all the drywall dust.
Look for my part 2 in which I get rid of the smart plug and build a relay circuit to turn on the vacuum by inserting the hose and show the finished wall plates.
I had a similar setup but to switch mine I used an old fan centre controller from a furnace to switch the machine on and off. You could probably ask your local HVAC installer if they have any in their scrap trailers.
