Here is another video of the beam machine at work, this is my first try at making rough lumber with a tool. I'll be using this for my next project, the Picnic table. Thanks for watching
Straight up no crap video....you show results and mistakes.....you have a good sense of humour 😀 keep it up and im glad to see your little talk on safety pants hat and glasses!! Good work
Good job on your practice cut. Just keep doing it and you'll get it down to where it's darn close to perfect. When it comes to a smaller beams or rough lumber to cut your four by four from. Understand the center has to be perfectly centered at both ends otherwise the beam well twist horribly.
Great video, thanks for sharing it with us, good thing with these lumber makers is that they make making a first flat cut super easy so you can then use an alaskan style rig for cutting thinner boards if you want to👍🏻
Thanks for video. I'm building a log retaining wall for a garden area and want to flatten the side of the sleepers and posts where they meet for a look. I'm using pine 16' long that starts at about 10" diameter and ends about 4". Being able to simply move the guide rail over was a concern of mine, I didn't want to get out a level and do alot of math, it ain't that kinda wall 😆.
Congrats man I think you did a great job for your first time. You can only imagine what you'll be able to do with a little bit of practice. You'll save yourself a lot of money. Good luck
I got me a timber tuff, exact same tool just green in color. Came with no instructions. I tried it for the time couple days ago. Worked good once i figured it out and judging by how you set yours up i still didn't figure it out properly. So now i see how you set yours up i will try it your way. Thanks fir sharing 👍
Great vid Joey! Appreciate your humility being the first time. Why? cause I'm right behind you my friend and getting the learning curve. Thanx for sharing.
Its a learning curve. You'll get it all figured out and then enjoy cutting logs to lumber. Get some eye, ear, and leg protection. Get the logs up higher and save your back from stress. Enjoy and be safe.
Use a ripping chain (you can make one by filing down the angle of a regular chain to between 0 - 10 degrees) next time you are using a chainsaw to cut with the grain. Standard chains that come with chainsaws are designed for crosscutting and are grossly inferior for doing with the grain cuts. If you do use a crosscut chain then expect a sloppy finish, slow progression through the wood and a rather profound sense of tiredness at the end of the day. Best of luck! God bless.
Do you recommend a brand of chain ? I heard they can be hard to get / fit right ? I don’t know what the problem would be but that’s what I read somewhere.
@@northjerseykevin409 Carlton, Oregon, and Granberg make them. There are some less expensive chinese chains, like Laser, but I have tried them. I bought a Harbor Freight sharpener and just make my own ripping chains out my used Stihl chains. Much cheaper that way.
Joe check your local steel supplier and see if they have any aluminum 2x4s. Their hollow so they are light and straight as an arrow and don't warp over time.
Hi Joe, I've got an Alaskan Chainsaw Mill with a Stihl 661 and think that your "beam machine" would be a nice addition. May I ask where did you get yours? Many thanks and best from London John
Yes I purchased my Beam machine from Lee Valley Tools in Halifax, I'll put the Web address here www.leevalley.com/en/wood/page.aspx?cat=1,41131&p=20126 Thanks
Have you tried to let the saw turn to where the bottoms up. The saw will pull it's self, I see your brake would hit but instead of push down the leveling back just try letting it flip bottom up, the saw will pull itself..
I See what your Asking about, They are grabbers so that it doesn't slide back from the force of the chain saw and a good cut. Thanks for asking, that is something I do Believe that I must forgot to mentioned.
On your saw it's on the front. ;) No universal standard on that adjustment screw. it's on the same face as the nuts holding the cover plate on my saw. But you do have to remember to loosen the bar nuts a bit, or that screw won't adjust anything, wherever it is ;)
be care full with the beam machine the screws loosen after a few minutes if work and they cla2 will slip in to the chair and ruin it in les than a sec but, if done with. are it us a great portable saw mill
Thanks for the Info, I've always checked it making sure everything was tight and in good running order, Other than that , it is a great little tool have.
yolo - Super old post but two things you can do to prevent loosening: Use thread locker and allow time to set or remove bolts run some nylon fishing line in the threaded holes then bolt it back up ( poor mans thread locker).
Should probably spend an hour or two getting your shit together before you start. Doing things like this guy and its only a matter of time before you get seriously hurt, especially if your using a real chainsaw. A 9 hp Husky shows no mercy when it comes to stupidity, carelessness and laziness.
2 nuts , not bolts , the nuts are threaded on a inserted double threaded stud. those are machinist ( mauh'-sheen'-ehst) bolts . . . not screws..... screws go into wood or metal, and are of a smaller size. good beam cutting!! stay safe !
