I took the Smith Creek Trail out to Anna Ruby Falls. I even saw a bear! It was a bit muggy but a nice hike. It did take a bit out of me perhaps due to the heat bubble the country is in right now.

I've had a few bear encounters over the years but was never able to get any of them on film. Nice waterfalls! Nicely done Joe!

the importance is to remain calm which is what you did! I had a bear encounter in the middle of the night in the Green Swamp in Florida. I crawled out of my tent and threw some tinder to fuel the mellow fire at 2 am and I started banging on the fire ring while it circled me in the saw palmettos it growled and clicked it's jaws but eventually it left when I started singing Led Zeppelin's Immigrant song..true story ...ever since I am always bear aware carry my bear spray with me all the time now...the secret to surviving is not show fear if you show fear the animals look at it as weakness...always remember we are at the top of the food chain.

Wow! I bet that was intense! Given the proximity to the campground bear spray was probably in order. I wasn't unprotected, though, but luckily this was a positive experience for me, at least.

The older I get (56), the more I realize the importance of hydration as well as electrolytes. I drank 2.5 liters on a 11 mile mountain run/hike last weekend (Rabun Bald/Bartram Trail) and ran out 8 miles in. Had to use some of my buddy's supply. Not to be preachy, but please don't underestimate our need for hydration!

Yeah I've started carrying electrolytes. Now if I can remember to use them! What happened to us, Man? We used to play outside in the 90's like it was nothing!

This looks really great man, absolutely gorgeous natural beauty and it's good that the bear didn't see you as a meal! 🥘 😂

Hmm, the fact that the bear knew your name tells me your subscriber and view numbers are deceivingly low. 🤪 Glad your encounter was benign, I'm hoping for a similar one up there.

😂 He probably looked at me like that sabertooth on Ice Age and thought, "Meh, I don't eat junk food!"

Did you try to hug the bear and give it honey?

😂 That is a problem with bears. They kinda look like they want a hug!
