Not to be a knife snob, but both of these knives are considered as "MEH" for survival knives. They're better than nothing, but the mystery steel leaves something to be desired. If you can find one, the Schrade SCHF2sm or SCHF9 are better steels. ( 1070 and 1095, respectively ) Aftermarket sheaths should be available for both. Of course, if you follow the philosophy of Les Stroud, then the Bear Grylls ( and Les Stroud ) survival knives are intended for a single-use tool to get you back home. They should be good enough for this purpose.
I prefer the older one. Nothing against the pro but in unfortunately I've been through SHTF events. And the old one would've been something I could've used more. Anyways just have to wait . We get SHTF events here in the Philippines every few years hahahah
The pommel on mine broke without even touching it, I was batoning and the shock transmitted to the back of the handle and it simply broke. It might be the original one but I got it in 2023, some disgusting cheats out there still sell that unimproved version.
