I use mine for hunting, camping, yardwork and batoning kindling and breaking log quarters down for the fire place. It has been fishing with me and snorkeling at the beach. This knife has had a very used life so far and it is still in perfect shape. I cant speak for everyone but the 10 years I hav had my knife I love it and would only trade it for the same one without serations. Excellent knife 4 out of 5 stars would recommend!

@@SilencioFilm I think people expect too much from a knife. It's metal and will wear. Some metals wear faster than others and serations wear faster than a smooth blade 🤷. Look at tungsten tipped saw blades, they are far harder than steel will ever be and still wear/full pretty fast on wood 🤷

I’d beg to differ on that, that knife in this review is the older version, the one iv used for years is the ultimate pro none serrated and it’s been used every day and has been used hard, mine is built like a tank and I use it for hunting and survival it’s still good as new after years of hard use. I wouldn’t go of one review look at what others say about it, but like I said mine is the none serrated and the sheath is different to the one in this video.

Hey Jacob, I was beating the crap out of my Mora companion trying to baton it through a piece of very hard and tough log about the size you have there. I was a newbie then and got winded before I was even done with it. I was taking it off section by section but it was getting so tiring I gave up. As I was a newbie then it never occured to me if the knife would survive the ordeal or not, but the companion knife survived! And it wasn’t even the HD companion. It looked all badly scratched up but held its own very well. Impressive for a knife so cheap!

I have one of these Knives and I like it. I would never baton through a log with this blade. I wear this for EDC on my hip or stuffed into my Get home bag. It will handle most task I put it through. Cutting materials wood, canvas, cardboard. It will stab through a tire and cut the non steel belted sidewall it will cut carpet easily. For batoning small firewood it does great. Now if I intend to go wilderness camping or someplace I'm not familiar with I would take my ESEE 6 and a camp axe or hatchet. Anyone who goes into the bush without an axe of some sort is a fool and that goes for the folks that make youtube videos. Being lost in the woods or being injured out there and not being able to make it back where you have to shelter in place is serious business. If you go into the woods take an axe of some sort for heavens sake.

So how many times have you traveled on foot over 20, 30, or 40 miles on foot with an axe?
@heyoldtime8969
@heyoldtime8969 5 лет назад
I;m not likely to hike 20 miles at one shot without making camp to rest. I could walk 10 miles with out rest considering my pack weight and that I'm 65 years old the small amount of extra weight the camp axe would add it would be more useful than a hindrance. As young as you are it should not be a problem. In your vids you look young, strong and fit to travel. Good show.

You just got a bad one. Maybe a first-batch knife. I’ve had one for several years. The sheath retention is still great. And the knife has held up well. The good thing about the BG knife, is it has a lifetime warranty. I know it’s gimmicky, but they are actually pretty decent knives. You just got a bad one, I would be confident in saying.

ThePreppersBunkerOutdoors no, it actually isn’t, and you did. Like I said, I’ve had one for almost 10 years now as my go to knife. No issues. There are countless videos on RU-vid of people using these knives, and saying at the end of their videos that they actually aren’t bad knives for the price. You got a bad knife, with a weak spot in the steel.
@Thepreppersbunkeroutdoors
@Thepreppersbunkeroutdoors 4 года назад
@@fisheyeguy people who havent had problems are irrelevant because the standard for which they use is inconsistent- where knives consistently fail is important- You are however correct about the weak point in the steel- caused by the serrations. You have a cheap chinese steel- cheap weal hollow grind, stress risers in the serrations, in a gimmick package. My butterknife has served me for 20 years- does that make it good? Nah. You have looked for confirmation bias on youtube saying the knife you like is good- do further research and you will see break after break after break- the knifes reputation from reputable people and users is garbage- The knifes repitation from people like ultimate survival tips who are paid to advertise products is pretty dang good. Weird how that works right?
@fisheyeguy
@fisheyeguy 4 года назад
ThePreppersBunkerOutdoors nah, I’ve seen plenty of unbiased reviews of the knife. I’ve seen the bad ones too. It’s not a bad knife for what it is. It gets plenty of hate from the knife snob crowd. I know, for a fact, I’ve beat on mine for 10 years now with no issues. I liked it so much I bought the pro version. You got a bad knife. Simple as that. And Gerber would warranty that knife, no questions asked. Your assumption that every good review is mostly someone getting paid to review it is pretty inaccurate. I just watched Survival on Purpose beat on this knife and use it for a year. He seems to think it’s a decent knife for the price. I’d bet a lot of the “failure” videos are from people over-abusing the knife, or were from the first batch of knives, which Gerber gladly replaced because they knew they screwed up.

You have the original model that was VERY problematic. They have a newer model that I have yet to see anyone break on the internet (and they try).That old version you show is one to avoid. Survival Lilly does a great test on the ultimate pro (the upgraded model), called the Bear Grylls Ultimate Pro DESTRUCTION test. The blade is only about $10 more or so and takes care of all the problems of the old Bear model. They did a great job on it.

If you want to break it i'm sure it's easier than breaking other knifes. But if you are unlucky to end up in a survival situation and that's all you have then it would probably be a blessing to have. Making a baton- that was made very clear in the video. How would i use the knife in a self defense situation? First, why would i use the knife in a self defense situation? ThePreppersBunkerOutdoors a sharp and perfect surface blade is more deadly. I guess what struck me as odd was making a baton which is a weapon by making the more effective weapon less deadly. I know it was a demonstration and test of the blade, but i was thinking for future purposes and situations. I have particular knives that have never been used for even a thread. Their extreme sharpness i keep for people. My question I guess is how to keep a blade at that level of sharpness in an ongoing bare bones survival situation. I always see humans as the challenge vs nature in a situation.

Absolutely not. Look at an Esee 3, 4, 5, or 6, or a hogue exfo1 instead.

@@Thepreppersbunkeroutdoors yeah...but I've seen a few of your vids where you test knives and you always show the knife you'll see the whole process of the knife going to the wood...this one that was absent. Look, at the end of the day if this was a knife other than a BG everyone would just say bad heat treatment and it sucks you got a bad one. And no one is going to make a "baton" in a survival situation cross batoning into a 6 inch log to make one. I'm not a survivalist and I wouldn't think to do that with my esee 5...I get it...99% of yt'rs like BG line of products...you got a free knife and purposely beat the snot out of it to break it (any knife can be broken)...you are the only one on you tube I've seen to do it and I've seen many vids cuz a bushcrafter I like used the same one for 2 yrs without incident and was curious to see what the deal was with the knife. It's all good. I get it. But really it's just a knife wives get their husbands, weekend campers and younger people buy...or maybe someone who bought a $20 Rambo knife and that broke so they're buying up...lol again it's all good.

The bummer thing is that you cant ALWAYS be filming. The other thing is that i have to try to demonstrate what years of potential use and abuse look like in a short period of time- and that is hard to do- if i didnt do that, i could only review what, 2 knives?

It's not the knife it's the person using it. I'd take my chances with the upgraded knife than whatever your selling. Lol... This is an old ass knife, not the upgraded version. A bit disingenuous to post this when there is a newer one out there. Then you say you won't spend the money to review the better one. Maybe some idiot will send you one for free so you can review it with preconceived outcomes. FAF.. 😂

The upgraded knife is better sure- its upgraded because the "ultimate survival knife" shown here is trash- i would review the "pro" you mentioned, but its WILDLY overpriced for what you get. Nothing about this video is disingenuous about reviewing a knife that is sold internationally in HUGE numbers- What is disingenuous is to come here commenting supporting a product and looking for confirmation bias to support your preconceived notions of quality of a product that you may have purchased, but know very little about. 👍

Pretty sure this was bought at bladehq, but it might have been bass pro. Either way, there is 0% chance it was fake. The fact that fakes of this cheap Chinese made pos exist makes me sad.
