The Gerber Bear Grylls Ultimate Survival Knife may be the most hated knife ever made. You don't have to look very hard online to find lots of people trashing this knife and calling it a total piece of junk. I happen to like Gerber knives, so I have wanted to see for myself for a while now whether the knife was any good. After I damaged my Gerber Profile knife while doing a review, I contacted Gerber and they agreed to warranty the Profile. • Gerber Profile vs Knot...
Since the Profile knife is out of production, Gerber was willing to send me a Bear Grylls Ultimate Survival Knife as a replacement for the Profile to review and make up my own mind. In this longer than usual video I put the knife through a standard Survival On Purpose knife review and pushed it a little extra hard, just to see what would happen. You decide what you think after watching.

I have used and still carry Gerber knives. Thank you for a honest review of the knife. I do get tired of the crap people give me for using Gerber knives. But I do love it when theirs fail and my Gerber keeps going.

Great Video Brian! - I have had a BG Scout Folder for 9yrs now and I have put that thing through hell and back. Still goes on every trip I go on. Holds its edge extremely well too. Cheers - Skorp - Western Australia.

I think all the hate on this knife came early on when it was first introduced. The early knives had problems with the pommel breaking off the handle. I've never personally owned one, but as far as I can see, it seems that Gerber worked out the bugs and fixed the problems. For anyone that's still worried about durability problems, I hear the Ultimate Pro version of this knife is pretty good. It has a full tang with the pommel also being part on the one of piece steel design.

Here in 2023, and the two BG knives I bought before this video was made, are still going strong. I’ve done everything to mine that you did to yours in this video, over and over again.

I brought this knife 7 years ago , used it ever since , never owned a different knife for this purpose and it’s served me well enough. I just wanted to see if I was putting work into a bad blade I didn’t realise there was this much controversy!

I bought this knife from Wal-mart in 2014. It is my primary camping and my primary bugout knife (along with my EDC BenchMade Griptillian). I used it the way you demonstrated and it has not failed me in 2yrs Great review, forward and honest! I look foward to viewing the rest of your reviews. Thank you!

I’ve purchased two of these BG knives, one for myself, and one for my son. Also have his survival hatchet (2), and parang (2). Figured we’d get a chance to try these out in the future, as he comes of age. Felt they would be good choices for beginners, and glad to find out that they (at least the knife) seem to be very reliable. Thanks for the review.

This morning was a fantastic pre Spring day. Perfect for a test run of this particular knife that you reviewed only mine has the serrated blade. I am not a fan of serrated blades, but that is what I was dealt. I did the same tests as you and this knife impressed me at how easily it made a nice feather stick, easily batoning through hard wood and its knots, even broke my baton on the front part of the blade. Starting a fire with the included steel was a snap with the very sharp spine it was effortless. Chopping anything over 2.5-3" is a no go unless your super desperate. But through 3 or less inches and as-long-as you've got a sharp blade it does the job very well. I cannot say it would be my go to camp knife but it going to stay in my emergency pack for sure. Other than easily scuffing up the finish on the blade, I like the look of a well used blade, it cleaned up perfectly and I sharpened up the blade and now it looks hungry for more. Thanks Brian.

I consider myself a student of survival and I love the Pocket guide. Keeping a level head and thinking clearly can be quite difficult in a true survival experience. I personally always have one with me. It addresses "priorities" when you can't think straight. Great video Bryan.

Thanks for the review. I've had mine for three years and I carry it on my pack and use it all the time at work and outdoor activities. This year I butchered three deer with it and had no problems.
