been doing it my entire life and at 71 years young I'm installing a walk-in cooler for this hunting season so I have control of the aging of meat if temps are too high, great bear!!!!
Great video. You are one of the most awesome dads I have ever seen. I am from a family of 4 girls. Unfortunately, my dad died when I was 14. It still has given me strength and direction from the years I had with him. Love to all.
I think that is awesome. When I was a young girl I remember helping my grandmother clean our own pig intestines also. We had a smoke house and made pork sausage.
Great shot, Christina! Well done to wait for the right moment. Love seeing you all work together as a family and cheer each other on. We need more of that in this world.
You'd be welcome to keep those skeeters... the little blood sucking vampires. But that was a nice bear taken with a perfect shot. Bear meat is delicious although I've never had it mixed with pork, not sure how that would taste, but it looked absolutely mouth watering. Super vid!
Great video! My Mom gave me her Mennonite cook book, and it has instructions for cleaning hog intestines in the front cover(she learned by cleaning them when she married into a Mennonite family). Before we had refrigeration, my family would put liver sausage(stuffed in the large intestine)in the bottom of a large coffee tin, the fresh rendered hot lard was then poured on top to fill the can, cook and preserve the liver sausage. Apparently it keeps very well like that. Home meat grinders are numbered to indicate size, 8, 12, 22, and 32 are the ones I have seen or worked with. The 1/2 hp #12 my brother bought has been going strong for over 30 years now, grinding deer, elk, moose , beef and pork every year.
The ladies got the job done with out dad. Love it. As I watch the vlog hearing the mosquitos buzzing I find my self swatting and scratching. LOL My mom would make Christmas meat pies with beef, pork, moose & bear. MMM. I'm sure Rose make an amazing meat pies on the wood stove. Oh ladies those smokies look gooood.
Amazing!!! What a GREAT shot!!! Beautiful footage of an awesome hunt! Congrats gurl! 🐻 🐻❄ 🧸 " You can do this! Make your own food!" Still AWESOME!!! 😀😃
Right around the 226 Mark did anybody else see that pterodactyl come flying in that thing was huge. On the positive note the smiles of your show will always keep me coming back
The state bird of Alaska and the national bird of Canada is the mosquiito. I grew up raising cattle, hogs and chickens. Back in the day we washed, then used a barrel in a hole on a 30 degree or less angle with water heated by wood and some ashes to help clean and loosen the hair and also to do the final cleaning of the hog. Then we gutted and started processing the meat. We had hogs that were what is now considered heritage breeds such as durocs, hamshires, yorkshires and poland china. Their fat to meat ratio was much higher and it took them longer to reach maturity. They were raised on pasture and ground corn, the flavor was different and the fat was sweet. We used the fat trimmed from the hogs to make lard, in a kettle and then ate the craklins that were left over. Mom made biscuits using lard, pie shells, fried eggs and anything baked lard was used, not vegetable oil. Now they skin hogs, the meat to fat raitio is different, their diet is different, the taste is bland, the only time you see skin on pork is on ham and people won't even have the fat rendered down. I am sure the places that do hogs and cattle don't save the fat to put it in with deer when they make sausage. Imagine getting paid for processing the fat and then storing it and getting paid for it when you sell it to the guy who has deer sausage processed.
Where are your milk cows. I just started hand milking my jersey nurse cow getting 3.5 gallons a day one milking. She had her calf 13 months ago and she raised 7 calfs this year . I got 1200 to 1500 a piece for dairy beef crosses I get from a dairy for 150 a piece at a month old. I am making butter, ice cream, and I'm about to make mozzarella next. I use to be a carpenter got tried of living in the city saved up and bought a little homestead for 48000 on 4 acres with a house. I love how you guys let everyone know that anyone can do it. Love the videos
FINALLY, SOME TRUTH ABOUT MOSQUITOS AND SOMEONE WEARING A HEAD NET!!!!! I only live in illinois just southwest of Chicago and I can't live without them!!!
Yes, we're doing this too! Only, our 4 little ones are still too little to help. Moved rural 2 years ago and with a $60 cheapo grinder I've processed numerous deer, bears, pigs and chickens so far. We're making our own hams, bacon, smokies, charcuterie, etc. - always learning new things from the internet 😜 Whether home grown or hunted, home prepared is the best! Thanks for sharing 👍
Fabulous, love the pioneering family attitude - sometimes I feel like I'm watching a documentary of how it could be, then as you say anyone who wishes to and wants to can. As soon as I get the nerve up and basic startup capital, I will give it my best short - hopefully, I can have my daughter and wife on board. God willing soon! Thank you for sharing as always #Gridlessness family.
was thinking but couldn't come up with something witty to catch your attention:-) love your way of life, love your family dynamics ,i want something similar for myself ,thanks for being my fantasy:-)
You people are amazing...thanks for sharing your life for all to see. God bless you and may He multiply your boundaries with many more beautiful children in the future.
Loved the video(s) Jeff… always do. The smokies looked delicious, and I’m sure it is! Some say; ‘it’s always a bad idea to see how sausage is made.’ But I disagree, especially if it’s made with love. Thanks for sharing!
There are so many mosguitoes, flies etc..Because, its very tiresome to hunt i think..Usually,It is not pleasant to hunt in the monsoon season..But,i love very much hunting..WOW..very exciting and nice shot👏🏽👏🏽..From India,Mizoram
🤔. So let me get this straight….you basically cleaned out all the chewed up food from what was basically a pig's butt, then refilled it with chewed up food, smoked and ate it? Man, if that isn’t some sort of circle of life thing, I don’t know what is! 😀😀 Love the hunting videos (well, I love most of the "doing stuff" videos) , and I’m glad to see you don’t shy away from the haters who will be complaining about stuff they don’t understand, and don’t want people to do things they don’t like.
I am pushing for the off grid life . I have had a few set backs since 2020 , but I may have stumbled upon a way to get it done finally. It will be in Maine I’m hoping to be able to do this at my parents land . A huge 55 acre untouched for 35 years from the tree stripping industry. If sissy wants to sell it to me that is LORD WILLING. You’re channel has been a great reality to this life choice
Thermocells have worked great for me on repelling mosquitoes in NH and Quebec. Great shot on the bear and loved see the family help get it out of the woods.
Being from UK we do not see hunting like this. The only meat and skinnng , curing I have done is rabbits. It is almost impossible to get traditional borax and saltpeter. I remember being sold some saltpeter back in the 80's by a very suspicious chemist, at the time I did not know what else it could be used for. My Grand Parents were country folk and we lived in a city raising rabbits for meat in the back yard. What a great shot Christina did, and how nice to see all the animal used. Love your channel especially the food truck. So admire your ethics on raising your family.
Christina that was a awesome hunting trip, and you made a very good shot, bullet placement is so important and you put it right where it needs to be! Beautiful bear, I really like it’s colour, and the way you and your sisters processed it was a think to behold! Jeff, Rose, I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again, you two are raising some very special ladies, I am constantly impressed by their accomplishments, and I’m 100% sure it’s because of you, so my hats off to you two. And speaking of hats, I noticed a special adornment in your hat Christina, the Tyee Hook , another trophy for sure.
While you were in the field I kept wanting to swat myself. More sketters than I could ever tolerate. Great job folks! I learned my smoking skills from ya'll and I now make my own bacon ham and sausage! Made some tasty deer and elk sausage this year! But have yet to get a bear!
Great teamwork in the harvesting and processing of a beautiful color phase bear. One shot Christina does it again! It was nice seeing Sarah and Ethan again. Thank you all so much in sharing your videos with us.
That was a great shot on a very nice bear, even despite the pesky little buzzing bloodsuckers! That would definitely make it harder to concentrate on the hunt! As always, I love how the family pitches in to help! Great looking smokies. God bless you all!
Greetings from the land of Blaze King. Nice bear!!! We don't get bigger cinnamons down here, they seem to darken as they age. Very fine bit of shooting too, kudos.
Looks like summer at my place, without being slathered with mosquito dope or wearing a net, a walk outdoors in the evening is not pleasant. As for shooting bears, I don’t eat them and haven’t shot one in years. If they are a threat, I understand it, but most people simply have the attitude, ‘it’s a bear, shoot it’. An attitude I endorsed for years but now regret, along with a lot of other things. I appreciate the way you actually stalked this bear to get close enough for a good clean humane kill. It’s called hunting. 👍
Clean shot, that's what I call a nice hunt. The bear didn't notice anything. I hate the mosquitoes, as a city dweller I could never get used to it. I met these critters in the forests of Australia while taking photos of wild kangaroos. All photos were blurred - could not stand still for a second.
Oh my. This video reminded me of when I worked in Northern Minnesota with the Minnesota Division of Forestry. I remember how swollen my hands would get from all the insect bites and the relief soaking my hands in a baking soda bath. Only twice I admitted that the bugs were so bad that I had to get out of the woods and then shear panic would set in as we made a dash to get back to our truck. I don't miss those days. I do have to congratulate Cristina on one fantastic shot. That bear dropped like a rock.
I grew-up canoeing in MN, and at certain times of the year, we would get out of the canoe, flip them over, and run for the cars. You could see the black cloud chasing us down the trail. I have since been in the jungles of central america and the Amazon, and still have never encountered mosquitoes that aggressive. My pet theory, the cold makes them mean and hungry. Oddly, I walk through the jungle and rarely get bit; but, my wife will have a swarm following them. Like I have a diffrent smell the jungle mosquitoes don't like.
Keep the awesome videos coming and don't pay any attention to the negative people out there who shouldn't be watching hunting videos in the first place!
Hey only startet watching your videos recently and you`re doing great stuff. My respect for all your skills and how you pickup new things. You are so right about how much one is able if you are just A little brave to try. I`m Swiss/English all my life in Switzerland but funny enough born in Toronto. So I have this tiny bit Canadian inside. Never made it back to Canada but maybe one day... If your sausage turns out to long you can make the turn afterwards it doesn't have to donne directly by the machine. I sometimes make a long peace and then turn it into three sausages. works fine Greetings from Switzerland Oliver
