This week are are all about bears! We start with a great hound hunt, then see Ted Nugent's MI bear hunt. We also stop in at a bear camp in the UP and have a Bragging Board as well!
I agree with Ted 100% I also got drawn for the Baldwin unit this year after 14 years of applying and to have the youth hunt going on for our opening day and early doe season the following weekend which is the only full weekend that our season allows just doesn't seem very well thought out. It doesn't take very much outside pressure to totally shut down an other wise active bear bait.
For a guy who has been incredibly blessed and had more opportunities to pursue more game (both in verity and straight numbers) in more places than almost ANYONE watching Michigan Out-of-Doors, Ted sure complains a lot.
was gonna, say this too. i may grumble about mushroom hunters and metal detectors spoiling public land turkey hunts a bit, but when it comes to other hunters I like to keep my mouth shut. as much of a frustration as it can be if i didn't have to adapt and overcome it wouldn't be as fun.
I live in the baldwin unit and I'm up to 10pts hopefully when I get drawn they have this time frame issue fixed definitely don't make sense. As for the point system Ted is so right i lived in crystal valley for 3 years now and I have tons of bear pics double, singles, and triples I have them all... the DRN are so off on population in this unit no need for 13-14pts for minimum thats just crazy
I had my caption say, “ broken wrist, dad is a sponsor, and caught big lake trout and kings the day before” then added a pic of my youth hunt ten point and still wasn’t in the bragging board. What the turds!!!
Hmm. Well I have to say, her shooting that bear off the top of the other guys back is extremely foolish for a few reasons. Also chasing a bear and having it be that freaked out for such a chase before it dies is so unsportsmanlike.
It’ll be a sad day when we can’t hunt with dogs anymore. An animal hunting an animal is about as “natural” as it gets, and thats seems like a position an anti-hunter would take anyway. It’s not a sport either. It’s hunting and we hunt for many reasons.
@@ethanjarvis5587 I'm a whitetail and black bear guide. I have killed probably 200 deer and many other animals. I'm definitely not an anti hunter. We should hunt for 2 reasons mainly, 1 Natural Food! 2, its instinctual. The dog deal just isn't my cup of tee and I'm sick of the dogs running my bears off my baits and the dog guys purposely letting them go on my trails to my baits just because they know theirs bears their.
The most important point with bear meat is to trim absolutely all fat before the meat is wrapped and frozen. It's also a priority to take bear that haven't had an opportunity to feed on any trash.
Must be hard to stand there and wait for a dog to do the hard work. I hunt and would hunt a bear but stressing an animal before it's death seems wrong. Just my opinion
Training a dog takes a lot of time and effort. Work smarter, not harder, and hunting with a dog can bring a whole new enjoyment to hunting. I’m sure we’ve all shot “stressed” animals.
