Really enjoyed how detailed this review was. I had already decided to purchase this mattress after doing my research, it seemed to check all my boxes. but watching this now just reaffirmed what I had found so far and made me even more confident with the purchase which was great. @@rogerwilliams4493 Sorry, just now seeing this. For me it is still great. I have absolutely no issues with it, still comfy. To me I like that it is still pretty firm like a normal pillow top mattress, but with a nice layer of foam. It is big, and very sturdy, and feels high quality. Honestly couldn't be happier with the whole experience. Some may be more picky than myself :P

Hi there -- Thanks for your question. While it's difficult to scientifically measure the effect, our POV is that sheets and bedding are going to negate at least some of the 'coolness to the touch' sensation, but certainly not all of it. In general, the way these cooling solutions work is to absorb heat from your body, which creates a cooling effect during the time that you are falling asleep. While the addition of sheets and bedding is likely to impact the speed with which this heat is absorbed from your body (and thus will affect the 'coolness to the touch'), it should not affect the material's overall capacity for heat absorption. So in other words, the cooling effect should be a bit less pronounced, but also more prolonged. So overall, we would still expect the overall temperature regulation benefits to be meaningful, even with sheets and bedding. I hope that's helpful.
I found the cushioning in Brooklyn bedding signature as inadequate. Does this mattress offer better cushioning than that? Also, how will this compare to ghostbed flex?
Question on the Celliant fibers. How will that work when a bed sheet is put on the mattress or a mattress cover? I can't imagine that anyone would just sleep on a mattress without a sheet. Thanks very good review.
Hi there -- Thanks for your question. You are right that any cover benefits (cooling, copper, Celliant, etc.) do tend to be less pronounced once sheets and a protector are added, which is indeed the way all mattresses are expected to be used. That said, they do not get eliminated completely. Rather, their benefits tend to just be delayed by the added material between your body and your mattress. As an example, let's look at phase change material (PCM), which is a cooling feature. PCM is basically microscopic wax beads that melt (changing from a solid phase to a liquid phase) when the heat from your body reaches them. This phase change creates a cooling sensation. Naturally, PCM will melt fastest when you touch it directly, so the cooling sensation will be most immediate -- you will perceive this as a coolness to the touch. But of course, lying on your mattress with a sheet and protector isn't going to stop the heat from your body from melting those beads -- it just delays it slightly. And the same thing happens in reverse -- as the sensation of coolness travels back to your body it is likewise delayed (and thus can be harder to perceive), but it still has a cooling effect. While I can't speak to the benefits of Celliant as well as I can PCM, my expectation is that it would work the same way. I hope that helps.
Hi Conny -- Thanks for your question. No, like the vast majority of mattresses made today, only the top side of this mattress is a sleep surface. So it is not designed to be flipped like mattresses in the past. I hope that's helpful.
Hi there -- Yes, this is a common question. The answer is you will still get the benefit, but cooling effect is slowed by the time it takes for the heat to travel through your bedding. This should not substantively reduce its effectiveness, but it does make the cooling effect less demonstrable -- ie, because of the delay, it won't feel "cool to the touch" in the same way as it does without the bedding on top. I hope that's helpful.
How would compare Bear Hybrid to the Infinity Hybrid by SitnSleep? I hear good things about the Bear, but am nervous because I can't test it before buying. I also don't want the hassle of buying it and returning it if I don't like it.

Really trying to decide between the Nest Alexander Hybrid or Bear Hybrid. I need good support, and soft comfy top, and great motion isolation. We love soft beds but need that support for our backs. Help!

The issue of support -- which means proper lumbar support and spinal alignment -- is different from comfort, which is preference-based and dependent on whether you personally prefer a soft/squishy bed or a firm one. No matter what your comfort preference, a mattress should be supportive, and it's a myth that firm/hard mattresses are always more supportive. We found both of these mattresses to offer very good support for most types of sleepers (back, side, stomach), but we did find the Bear Hybrid to offer a little more cushioning depth and softness right up top, which may be more what you are looking for. Can you tell me if you can feel the coils/springs in your shoulders or hips when sleeping on your side? I weight between 140 and 150. I am a side sleeper looking for a new mattress and am considering this or the dream cloud. Thanks
Hi there -- Thanks for your question. In terms of feeling the springs in the shoulders or hips when you're on your side, this was not an issue we experienced at all when sleeping on this mattress. Overall, we rated the pressure relief here as very good, which was also the case for the DreamCloud. That said, we gave just slightly higher marks to the Bear Hybrid for pressure relief and spinal alignment for side sleepers in your weight range. I hope that's helpful.
Thank you so much! This will be my 4th bed in less than 5 yrs. Ive tried a Tempur-Pedic and couldnt deal with the feeling stuck as I move around a lot. I tried a hybrid but felt the springs/coils when I slept on my side. I have a regular Beauty rest now and it is too firm. I haven't had a good nights sleep or woken up without pain in YEARS!

I love how thorough your reviews are. I'm wondering if you noticed any body impressions created from sleeping on this Bear mattress. I purchased the BH Oceano and have been sleeping on it for about 2-3 weeks now. Within the first 3 nights of sleeping on it, it created a body impression dip near my hips (I weigh about 165lbs for reference). It doesn't seem to want to break in near my head/shoulders or legs and is causing lower back pain. It's creating the feeling of it being an old mattress already. I'm thinking I may have to return it and am researching a replacement. I also don't know if this is common for a new mattress since it had been a long time since I'd replaced my last mattress. Thanks for any help.
@@ryankernus Hi! I still have it but am unfortunately going to return it once I figure out what my next mattress will be (currently debating Bear hybrid or Winkbed). It was a process to break in the Oceano, and it still doesn't feel all the way broken in. The mattress seems defective or sunken in badly already on one side and causes lower back pain. I rotated it 180° after suffering a month of pain, and the other side is fine (and actually comfortable). After about 2 weeks of sleeping comfortably again, I rotated it 180° back to the sunken side to see if maybe I was just crazy, but nope! It still feels sunken in the middle and caused back pain by the next morning. I can't rationalize keeping the mattress with only one good side to sleep on. What has your experience been? I'd love to hear.

Hi Larry. It depends. A big factor is body size. In general, a mattress with a pocketed coil support unit will offer better support for back sleepers that are heavier (over about 225 lbs.). With an all-foam mattress, heavier people can sink in too much in the hip area and create some over-arching in the back. Is the edge support decent with this bear? Seemed like it was a bit more squishy and sinky than others when you sat on the edges. But I heard it’s improved over their older version? Thanks
Hi Jennifer -- that's a totally fair question!! Some mattresses have this feature so you can get to the top comfort layer -- which presumably you could replace at some point when it begins to wear out, or you could swap it out for a firmer or softer layer that's supplied by the company. It's much less expensive (and less wasteful overall since used mattresses can't be resold) for a company to send you a replacement layer to improve your comfort than to process a return. One Video says the edge support is terrible, another says it’s good, who do you believe? And some videos say it holds heat and hotter then other mattress and another video says it’s cool?
Hi there -- Thanks for your question. I can't speak to content from other reviewers but I'd certainly stand by our reviews as the most accurate and objective assessments available. In terms of temperature, be careful putting too much stock in any assessments that go beyond how we assess this consideration, which is based on 1) air flow, 2) body surface area exposure, and 3) heat transfer (in that order). Any other approach is not accurate and could very well be misleading. Even for our temperature assessments though, I would always stipulate that your individual mileage may vary. Some people are simply far more prone to overheating than others, and depending on what mattresses you've had before, you may not even know whether you're in this camp. I hope that's helpful.

yea I felt the same...I end up getting a Casper Wave all foam 2019, should be here on Tuesday, but I know I will like it because it doesnt have the problem you describe...after all discount, it cost 150 more and way less in term of warranty, but my original casper from way back 5-6 years ago still good, so I'm going to assume this is goona be the same. I guess if you come from an Innerspring, this feels more luxurious but if you coming from a Foam mattress, this feel horrible..

I am 2.5 months into the Bear hybrid trial period. My husband who is 5'10 185-195lbs said it was good if he was on his back, but too much shoulder pressure for side sleeping. He does have broad shoulders and he is an althetic crossfitter in his mid 40s. For me, i am 115lbs 5'6" i liked the mattress a lot. I will note that I started to feel a body impression after 2 months from the soft top foam layers. I decided to initiate return because i have concerns of it getting worse over time. As it is now the body impression does not cause discomfort, but that thought that it could become a big deal in a year has me shying away from this purchase. I have weighed this decision heavily as i am concerned i may not find a better mattress. I will note that my husband has replaced his Bear with a purple plus which he loves and i hate. It is way too soft for me. However since we have a split king he can have what works for him. Im thinking to try the purple .2 hybrid for me next.
Hi and thanks for the comment. Couple of differing sizes, shapes, preferences really can have a hard time -- it's almost impossible to find something that will serve both people equally.
