I can hear Ruby's thoughts: 'Once again, no snacks! Doesn't Uncle Patrick realize that at this time of year I'm going to need 20,000 calories a day??? Doesn't he love me anymore? Tcccchhhhh!!!' I have to say that's the first time I saw her enter via the open gate at the top of the stairs. If it wasn't for her super-glossy coat I'd wonder if it's our Ruby! Thanks Patrick! ❤🐻✌

Wow! This time, even if it *had* been me instead of Patrick, I would NOT have crapped my pants. She was so respectful and non-threatening…even sad more than complainy. Almost “don’t you like me anymore?”

As someone against hunting bears, I thank you for withholding food for the bears even though we may see fewer of your videos. Bear hunting season in your area starts October 14th. Bears that are often around people lose their fear of people making them easier to find and kill.

Despite the lack of snacks from Uncle Patrick’s porch Ruby looks like she’s doing well & having a healthy summer. That could mean a little cub or two next spring😃

I liked how after she checked the table out she started going down the steps but had to stop and check to see if you was following her, as if to say, “don’t stop filming me Uncle Patrick”. What an beautiful girl!

It's a very vicarious dance you're dancing. You call it resolve and I think that's the right choice of words when you say steely. Since you know bears aren't dogs or domesticated like dogs this 2-step going on something to watch. You're wise to keep the food away and to watch her carefully. I imagine you have experts you can talk to also. My hats off to you! Great job, Sir Patrick!

I think Ruby stopped when going down the steps, and then re-climbed up the way she did as a cub, so to identify herself to you, Patrick. Just to make you feel comfortable with her even more. Very little doubt she wants to den under your porch, to feel safe and secure this winter. Until she finds a suitable den, you're her best option now.
