Predatory bear behavior, attempting different approach angles, head moving back and forth. If he'd stumbled or fell this video would be he's last. Never run and put trees in between you and bear. Sturdy long branch is essential especially if end is sharpened. Like sharks bears often stun prey and do exploratory bites to subdue. Glad he survived this and much learned from him documentating it.

Tye Seeley biggest mistake is holding the camera. he should have had the stick with both hands. people never learn ive read and studied alot. and ill tell you that black bear was waiting on one mistake for an opening. i dont get why people have an interest in taking nature walks where land shark's live. just blows my mind.

Okay, so I guess I can add some clarification to this. This is my cousin in the video. He wasn't hiking or camping, he works up in the wilderness of Canada (his work is geological), and so he was up there for his job. So this really wasn't anything to do with hiking. Secondly, and I see a few comments about it, he had a gun. I don't know the laws, but he was allowed a gun for his work at the very least, because there's big dangerous shit up in Canadian wilderness. He got back to camp eventually, grabbed the rifle, and shot the bear. That's how this went down. Obviously some of you wont believe me, but this is the best I can provide.

Middle of the sweetest berry bush, there comes this crazy guy with huge stick in his hands. I've heard that theres some big dangerous shit up in the Canadian wilderness and now i know what they meant with that. He ate the guy because he was trying to get back to camp where he had a rifle and a bigger stick. That's how this went down. Obviously some of you wont believe me, but this is the best i can provide.

This is absolutely a predatory bear.... when a bear attacks in defense it is usually very swift because it feels it has no other option, but a bear that stalks like this is sizing up its prey to see what kind of defense it can put up. this guy did everything right to protect himself but was still very lucky not have been injured. If I had a gun in a situation like this I would have first tried to scare it off but failing that a quick bullet to the head would have followed.

You have to trust your gut when this happens, I and 3 of my co workers were treed by a bear, we stopped deep in the woods to sharpen our 4ft long axes as we did every day. We were bluff charged by a bear, and every one of us dropped our axes and went up trees. There is something very primitive inside of us that takes over.My mind never gave my body permission to take off running, but it sure as hell did. This was a very upsetting experience.

For those wondering, and arguing about the second amendment... This occurs in Canada, specifically Saskatchewan (as per the uploaders earlier comments) This is not a brown bear, or a grizzly, or a Kodiak (all the same) it is a cinnamon colored black bear. I have absolutely no idea exactly where in the province this occurs, but I'll venture a guess and say in the far north. Specifically because the begining of the video seems to start on an eskar (look it up) He wasn't carrying a gun because this is Canada, it's (likely) not allowed. I say likely, because it might be legal hunting season when this is filmed. He could legally carry mace, AKA bear spray, which is legal, and *very* effective. Far more effective then a gun. As a point of interest, this is exactly what a predatory bear looks like. No question about it, this bear is going to attempt to kill and eat him. It could be because the bear is acclimatized to humans, though I think that is unlikely. Given that this is Saskatchewan, and frequent human to bear interaction isn't common. More likely this bear saw to poor guy stumbling through the bush and thought he was an easy meal. Not knowing the exact location, I will say it wouldn't be completely out of the question that this is the first human the bear has ever seen. Seriously, spend some time on google earth, Saskatchewan isn't that much smaller then Texas, and only has a million people, the vast majority of whom live in the south, below the forest where this happens. I'll add this is exactly how you want to handle a stalking bear. Start backing up, never *ever* run, but try and vacate the area. Get your self a weapon, he gets a stick, which isn't the best thing but far better then defending claws and fangs with neatly trimmed fingernails. It's also important to note that this bear, like most other bears are trying to decide if your worth attacking or not. Think of it this way, a bear isn't likely going to try and eat you if he thinks he's going to get seriously hurt doing it. So make your self as intimidating as you can. Yell, "get big" what ever you can. Bears are dumb, they don't really know what a sissy you are (me too) try and convince them otherwise and they might wonder off. And, as I said earlier bear spray is far more effective then a gun. The moment the mace touches a bear they seem to GTFO, while they often just shrug off a gun shot, even one that will be lethal in mere moments.
@GuyInAChair3
@GuyInAChair3 9 лет назад
***** I'm not a 100% sure but I think it would be okay to carry a long gun, ie a rifle or shot gun with you. Hand guns are generally not allowed to be carried by any one out side law enforcement and owners transporting a gun from A->B

Craigmw45 Okay, so I can't remember all the facts, but this is my cousin in this video. I don't have proof, but I don't know why I'd go to a random video that is a decade old and make shit up, so I hope you do believe me. This isn't on a camping trip, or a hiking trip, he works up in the woods, (his line of work is geological), and so this was during work for him. Now, again, if I'm remembering correctly, they ARE allowed guns, because as you can see, there is big shit up there that can kill you. He told me the story about this years ago, but I do believe he eventually had to shoot it. I think he got back to camp and got a rifle and shot it. That's how I remember it at least, all these years later.
@traditionalprimitivearcher3561
That is unfortunate you might not be able to carry a sidearm. Bear spray is effective and it is a good idea to have it , but like a sidearm it is not guaranteed to stop the attack. I personally like to have both on me. Being that this was predatory and the bear was sizing him up, bear spray should have sent him packing.
@virgilputz8276
@virgilputz8276 6 лет назад
Ummm, whoever thinks "bear spray" is more effective that a gun, whether it's a shotgun, rifle or 10mm handgun with underwood hard cast bullets is simply ignorant. There are lots of people that were attacked using bear spray, not as many that were armed. Canada is a liberal country that won;t allow people to defend they're lives. They also give light sentences to murderers. WTF

If you see a bear stalking you or you notice its looking at you, the bear has not made up his mind if he wants to eat you or not, but if he has decided you look like the next meal, you will not see him until its to late..... That is exactly how they kill moose, elk and deer...... which are all stronger, faster, and hear 4x better than you can ..... think about that the next time you venture into bear country.

Adrian Chirila and Wanderlost. It is not how one "looks at things." I have hunted elk in country where bears are hunted and where they are not hunted. There is a huge difference in their behavior. so until you actually go out and do something in the wild versus sitting behind your computer keep your ignorance to yourself rather than seeking to assert some moral high ground that simply does not exist.

+Infidel just like you're sitting in front of yours right now? I've been around bears my whole life. I've seen my first one when I was about 5. I've been around forests almost my whole life. I know how bears behave, and I know that I'm on their territory when I'm up there, and they should behave like that, they're top predator after all, and I respect that. I don't go out of my way to meet them, they jump my fence and eat my apples. I don't mind that either. I've never hunted one tough, and I don't want to. Not bears, elk , deer, boar or any other animal for that matter. I grow my own food. I also have a few chickens, a couple of ducks, a few sheep and I have enough to eat. :)

I would've put down the camera, slammed trees with that stick, fling debris in the air, do anything to make myself look aggressive. If that didn't work, I'd shit myself and pray the smell ruins the bear's appetite.

Actually if you put it RU-vid Desktop version you can do some editing even on your phone.. & it is true on any Mobile RU-vid Version, On Any Mobile Device even the iPad it won't let you edit it unless you put it on the RU-vid Desktop Version! I know it's a pain for us phone user.... :_|

I don't understand why these people who go to the forest do not have any gun weapons and spray against the bear really need tragedies to realize this

yeah... he's a gonner... i know that feeling of fear... being stalked by an animal that can kill you, all the adreneline, your brain's thought's sharpen to just survive... though thinking back i should've made more noise then just "No, get!" (same thing as that guy...)

This guy has balls of steal. If I were in his position, I would have just run. And yes, I've heard that it's the dumbest thing that you can do when facing a wild animal, but it's just what I would have do.

The best way to deal with a situation like this is to grab a stick and throw it at the bear. Roll around on the ground for a while until it comes into arm's reach. At that point you can grapple it down and get its head locked, then just wait for help. Take it from me, I used to be a bear.
