I started doing this a couple weeks ago in the mornings. Being I work out in the elements every day I shower at night. This has made my morning routine so much easier and I've found I end up with less breakage and pulls than ever before.
Morning showerer here. Putting products on a dry beard at night is a pain and inconsistent at best. Just switched from sink wetting to a spray bottle a few months ago. Works wonders. Good call passing that info on. 👊🏼
I’m big fun of spray bottles, ever since my long curly hair days I always kept one around. The long thick hair has since gone but I kept the spray bottle. I accidentally got into the beard lifestyle during the Covid lockdown, but I was told to use warm or hot water to dampen my beard before applying beard balm or oil. So I’ve been using a cloth that I would put under hot water then apply it to my beard. It never of course felt as good as the heated towel you get at the barber. But I like the idea of using my spray bottle again for something other than to spray the cat. Thank you sir. That’s an awesome beard by the way. I had hair in my head that thick once, but not as endowed when it comes to facial hair. Oh well.
Shower at night and was plunging my face into the sink in the morning. Sometimes it’s the simplest of tricks 🤦♂️. Awesome advice, as always. Thanks Dan!!
Thanks for sharing. I always did it under the faucet like you but I’m going to give the water bottle a go. If you wanna go the extra mile then use distilled water. In the cigar world we use distilled water for things because it lessens the likelihood of bacteria
Just wanted to come back here and say this tip did the trick! Having a slight damp beard really helps get that butter in the beard and spread evenly... It feels like it really is doing the job.. And even better the next morning it’s not a huge mess and not as many snags when I run a comb through before I head to the gym... Thanks Dan!!
I’m a morning fresh guy & at nights I end us getting water everywhere when getting water thru my beard over the sink. Definitely investing in a spray bottle! Meant to say, I’ve upped my water intake but was struggling to reach the gallon every day. While breaking the volume down to ml I was reminded that over here in the UK we use an imperial measurement for a gallon & this is greater than a US gallon! Way to confuse things eh? Anyway, I going US & that means I’m hitting my gallon!
To be honest, being a qualified personal trainer, the colour of your urine is the best indicator of hydration. You don't necessarily need an entire gallon of water, just enough to keep your urine clear.
@@Chaos3volved being qualified as a regular dude, there is a ton of value in having something to shoot for, especially when it is simple. If guys have a finish line of completing a gallon before they go to bed, it is much more likely to happen as compared to telling a normal dude to keep his piss clear. I fully agree with you on the color of pee, but perspective is valuable when you think about the reason behind the gallon.
I really appreciate you I now take care of my beard with good basic knowledge that I learned from you. Beard products twice a day once in the morning and once at night and make sure the beard it is damp so that hydration can be locked in.
I shower in the morning, but this will be a game changer for my nightly butter routine! I was doing the sink method but the it was running down my arm or getting all over my shirt. Thank you Dan!!
Good tip, I shower in the morning and at night I just run a wet comb through my beard before applying butter. Can't fit anymore bottles on the counter, lol.
This is spot on. I just started using a spray bottle after contemplating it for a while. When I’m on the road trucking this is an easy why to hydrate my beard
If you've been doing this for a few months Dan, you got me beat as far as being "late to the game." Rather than having a fellow beardsman tell me, I had the "lightbulb" moment while trying to spritz the cats away from trying to eat the Christmas tree. That said, it really IS an absolute game-changer. I was doing pretty much exactly the same thing you were, which works...but between the trouble of aiming the shower wand or the worse solution of attempting to get product into dry hay, there had to be a better way! (insert TV infomerical here) Additionally - being a night-time shower person myself - if you're absolutely running late in the morning, the water bottle kinda reactivates any night-time products, or at least makes it a more painless experience in getting an out-the-door style with *something* on your beard. Nevertheless, it's an invaluable beard trick to have made a video on - especially since it's a dollar at a big box store or even FREE, since most people have a spray bottle just lurking around. Solid video, and a great start to 2020! Hope y'all are having a happy new year on your end!
Believe or not Dan, I've been doing this for the past few weeks lol I already had the spray bottle for my head hair! I was sitting there one night and thought, I don't want to go take a shower what can I do to wet my beard down? I looked at the spray bottle and did the same thing lol it really is an ah ha! Moment and definitely a game changer!
For you cold shower warriors.. cold water doesn't strip natural body oils from the skin like hot does. Luke warm to cool showers are the ticket for me. When my beard touches hot water in a humid bathroom my beard is so unmanageable for the next day or maybe 2. Since I take cool showers in winter and cold showers in the summer my beard has looked so much more healthy.
I am a morning dunk my whole head under the tub faucet and Night shower kind of guy but as of right now I am a mid day spray bottle guy. Working in construction especially dealing with silica dust daily, really puts my beard through hell
I’ve been using a spray bottle for a few months now and it’s made a significant difference. Although I use distilled water instead of tap maybe that’s a bit much but tap water where I live is pretty hard. I always use it before applying product (as mentioned makes distributing product easier) and definitely after waking up helps get rid of the bed beard haha
I just bought a house last year and the master bathroom needs to be redone. When I do it, I plan on having a kitchen faucet with one of those pull down faucet ends installed instead of a regular bathroom faucet. I have used the one in my kitchen in the mornings when I don't have time for a shower and being able to take the faucet end out and move it around my beard has been awesome from getting a quick beard hosing down.
Bro- wow, I shower at night because of work at 5:30am but on the weekends I shower morning & night. This was so easy to think of, how have I not done this in the morning with a spray bottle instead of a fast & messy sink rinse, lol damn. heading to the Dollar Tree right nowwww☝🏼💪🏼
I will be using a spray bottle from here on out now. I can't believe I never thought of this before my girlfriend uses a spray bottle on her daughter hair all the time to avoid washing her hair in the sink and it works! That morning messy sink rinse Is now over for me, Thanks Dan C
this is a real smart idea,, thank you ,,,, now i don't have to get the bathroom soaking wet from the water (when i don't have showers) for putting shampoo and conditioner as well as the beard oil,,,,,,so thank you.
Patrick Petrowsky I have a connection in Carmel Indiana that provides free Artesian well water that has been providing locals a pristine pure water for 30 years or so. It seems to be unlimited. The estimate is that this well of water is over 10,000 years old. Who knows., but let me tell you that I as a lover of water have never tasted a nectar as delicious as this water. I bought store water just to pour it out in order to have gallon jugs to fill up with this water for free except for my time and water jugs. Nothing compares to this water. I personally only drink coffee, water and merlot.
I shower every morning with an occasional night time shower. I have been thinking about an easier way to wet the beard at night without making a mess at the sink and never thought about using a spray bottle. I guess that makes me late too. When at the dollar store tomorrow I'm definitely will pick up a spray bottle. Such a simple easy trick. Kind of makes me feel stupid for not thinking of this trick sooner.
Danc, I have told you this last year and you didn't like it for you. Glad you started to do this! Another tip is you your comb to get the wax or balm out before using the butter. You just feel clean!
My wife already had a spray bottle so I just started using that. I also sometimes just use the water on my hands after I wash them before applying products.
I shower in the morning every day, but will shower again at night on days when I hit the gym after work. The rest of the time I simply apply beard butter to a dry beard in the evening before bed. The spray bottle concept is interesting. I feel like there are two camps on the topic of applying beard products after a shower: guys who insist you need to let your beard dry fully before applying, and others who say you should towel dry and then apply to a damp (not soaking wet) beard. I've done both and feel that I do get slightly better results applying to a damp beard rather than dry. My beard and face definitely feel better in the mornings after days when I take a second shower in the evening.
I am a morning shower guy, although if I get dirty enough at work, I do shower in the evening as well. I usually dry my beard to about 75% and then get the oil on my face and throughout my beard hairs. I have tried in the past to totally dry my beard first, but it didn't spread as easily causing me to have to use more oil than necessary.
Shower morning& Night , Conditioner wash majority week and Beard wash shampoo once or twice week. Damp dry beard and apply oil comb through and apply balm or beard butter. Great idea on spray bottle i will need to add.. :{}}}}}}}>
Awesome video dan !!! I’m a night shower person after a 12 hour day ! And I’m up at 5am and out the door by 5:20 ! I’m a guy that takes a cup and use the sink to wet my beard ! But this is something I’m Going to have to try !! Thanks ! Simplest things can make a difference and crazy I haven’t thought of this myself !!
I never tried this method. But if I was going to, I think I would want to run the cold water for a few minutes then put it in spray bottle each time using fresh cold every time verses letting water sit in bottle 24 until next use.Just seems like it would be more refreshing.
Thanks for the video. Man, what a great idea. I've been using the sink and it makes a real mess, water all over me and the sink. The only advantage to using the sink is hand washing before application. As usual, DanC is changing my beard game. Yep running out today for a spray bottle.
I like this idea. I shower at night. Oil, butter before bed. Started dampening my beard in the morning before oil not only to spread out product but to restyle my bed beard. I just dampen my hands in the sink and rub water in now but this would make it even easier. Cool tip!
I just use my sink in the kitchen, it has a detachable faucet head it works great. but I will try the spray bottle method instead as it would be a little quicker. thanks for the tip
I started using a spray bottle myself in the mornings After I saw your video I do landscaping and I have to go into work early And I don't always have time for a shower in the morning and I have to take a shower at night because I get really dirty, It really helps with my morning routine.
Great tip!! And makes absolute sense! I was using too much butter because my beard would always be so dry when I start to apply, now I can use less butter with a damp beard.. And it will spread more evenly.. Genius.. Thanks..
Yes, MBT is onto something here. Notice the word “mister”... A regular cheap spray bottle will indeed wet your beard, but in an uneven way; with some areas soaking wet while other areas are barely wet. Misters create a veil of moisture but won’t dribble on your clothes, sink, etc. Misters provide more even coverage and won’t get shirts or countertops wet either, as spray bottles tend to “spit” as well as spray. You can find cheapie sprayers at your local beauty supply store, plus you’ll probably find a bottle/mister for $5.00 or so. I know to some (maybe a lot?) of people will read this and think I’m taking this water bottle thing a step too far. This may be true, but it’s advice from someone who has made his living cutting and coloring hair for almost 40 years. Do your own test, pit a regular sprayer against a mister bottle and see for yourself. Maybe that’s why expensive fragrances come with misters/atomizers instead of spray bottles???
Dan, Great video again! I just started doing this , having my own bottle because i was having the same issues of leaning over the sink. It works out great. Im a morning shower person definitely, but i do take an occasional shower at night to relax. The bottle also helps with a quick wash at night if youve had beard balm in during the day, and are gonna put in butter at night. Talk soon, Pete
Awesome piece of advice. I shower at night and usually just do my best to wet my beard over the sink in the morning. I do find it isn’t an even wetness and I do make a mess too. Will be burying one of these tomorrow and give it a shot. Thanks again for the advice
Night time shower person here and wet beard at sink in the morning before oiling but now I’m definitely getting a spray bottle for morning, appreciate the tip as always teach
That is awesome, thank you! They gave me a 7 day ban lol because they said I was spamming. I will not be going back there, was just trying to help people. Glad you are here though!
Dan C Bearded I hear you. People on Reddit will report other people. It’s a microcosm of our snowflake society. I defended you when that idiot got ‘mad’ at you because you mentioned your RU-vid site. Nothing wrong with promoting your business. That’s capitalism. Does he get pissed off every time a commercial comes on his tv. I fear for our country with the young people being such sensitive pussies. Keep doing your thing Brother because it’s your right!
I saw this a long while back but it was different. Bthebarber did this but he added oil to the bottle as well buy the point wat the same. If your out and about and need to hydrate quick it's a good way to use a spray bottle. I think it's a good idea. Especially to speed up the process. Great video Dan C 👍
I tried that out and it isn't for me. I want to fill the hairs with water and then seal with product after. Rock what works for you though, nothing wrong with that method!
I never put oil or butter in a dry beard. Doesn’t make sense to me. I’ve had arguments with so-called experts about it. Oil doesn’t coat dry hair very well and stays on my hands and gets on my shirt. With damp hair that isn’t an issue.
They would say oil and water don’t mix. I’ve seen and heard a lot of dumb stuff in the 6+ years I’ve been bearding. Still learning all the time though.
Because of work I'm a night time shower guy. I'll try this for the mornings now. Quick question though. I know you and Sam love the villain by heroes and legends. I see they have a new villain black with oud. Have you tried this one yet? If so which one did you like more. Thanks for the videos Dan!
Thanks Dan, I'm growing my beard from a medium to a long at the moment, struggling to fight the urge to trim all the time seeing imperfections bit were getting there, Louis from UK
Louis Morgan Do research, and find a good beard barber in your town and ONLY let him or her trim your beard , I NEVER try to trim it myself my barber is trained to do it, I would never ask him to do my job so I’m not gonna do his (or hers) my barber has never messed my beard up but lol I have
I've a clawfoot tub with princess faucet, always dread going that route unless absolutely necessary. Never thought about using a spray bottle, either. Duh! What is about things so obvious that they fly right over our heads? Thanks, Dan.
Dan how’s everything sir! What I normally do is wet my hands & run it under & above my beard running my fingers through it & it seems to work nicely. It seems to help, & if it’s not the best idea I will definitely pick up with a bottle. I can never put the butter on dry beard because I feel like I’m gonna pull some hairs with my comb. Even if I go out, I carry sometimes my butter, jump into a bathroom damp it, butter it, comb it & come out like Superman as my wife says cause is all in breaking time lol
A side question! And thanks for this awesome tip Face Moisture. How do you get that within the beard, or when applying moisture such as L’Oréal (I buy a set for beards - shower beard wash, facial and body wash and moisture) do you just wash your face area and use the spray bottle and oils on your face?
I wash my face in the shower with face wash, I wash my beard in the shower with beard wash, I think dry my beard to a damp state, and then apply my oil
Dan C Bearded I have a thick curly nappy beard 🧔🏾. A spray bottle works wonders I’ve been doing it for months now. I never tried putting in beard products twice a day, I usually just do it once every other day. I’m also a morning shower 🚿 person as well, after the shower I put my products in. Maybe I might try putting my products in twice every other day or twice a day. My beard 🧔🏾 holds a lot products anyway and I feel that I might be over doing it if I do it twice a day, please correct me if I’m wrong.
