I think you're right. Bearded Dragons here in Australia hiss or run when threatened but this poor lizard can't escape as the floor is like ice.

They definitely do play, but it's rare. There's a video on the dodo, I think, where a bearded dragon is attached to this one dog. Loves to play with her. However, it is a one in a million chance. So, in this situation, I agree that this beardie is 100% stressed and not playing.

They definitely do. Source: I have rescued and kept reptiles for years. However, this situation is not what I would call “playing”. This is a beardie in slight fear. He’s not terrified, or he would be frozen with his whole body puffed up, mouth wide open, and beard completely black, and there would be hissing. Still not playing and still not a responsible thing to let your pets do though. I’ve had beardies and monitors that would play with toys, come when called, and even play with/take naps with my dog. (The playing I’m talking about involves chasing toys together and playing tug of war, no signs of fear or agression from either the dog or lizard, my dog is also a herding breed and has zero prey drive, he is also extremely gentle and careful with them. I wouldn’t trust just any dog to do what he does with my critters)

Jayne dos, cats and canaries like lots of sound from each other but beardies are a species that like living alone and in a quiet environment. When my beardie hears too much noise, he will close his eyes and sometimes go ontop his cave. He should have some peace and quiet that he needs.

@@luciamatarazzo7345 Not to worry, he has an extremely posh set up and has plenty of alone time. However he WANTS to join in some of the activities. He likes to hang out on my shoulder when I do meal prep for everyone. When the weather is right, he goes out in the yard with me and I have an enclosure set up just form him to be kept safe from the many natural predators in the area. At night he hangs out on my chest while reading and enjoys the one on one attention and put him to bed before I fall asleep. He is a happy little dude and was thrilled to rescue him from a home where the owners hadn't a clue on proper care in spite of all the FREE info out there on how to care for dragons. Looks like I will be acquiring a blue eyed Lucy, a kid in the neighborhood wanted one and the parents got him one, and again, not the proper commitment for healthy care. I will re-home him once I know he is healthy and stable. People have no idea what a commitment it is taking on any animal regardless of what it might be. Irks the hell out of me and am happy to be the clearing house for unwanted pets so I know they receive proper care and re home if possible.
