Big news from Clint's Reptiles! We have good news, and some potentially bad news. I'll start with the good news. We got a P.O. box! People have been requesting one for a while now, so we finally did it 🥳 Clint's Reptiles 770 East Main Street #127 Lehi, UT 84043 If you would like to send a LIVE animal - FIRST: please send us an email to make sure we can take it in. clintsreptiles+LIVE@gmail.com We will be doing some live mail openings in the near future, and that should be a lot of fun! And the bad news. Today's video will be the last regular Wednesday video for a while. We will do some live streams on Wednesdays (probably one a month or so), but AFTER today, we will only be releasing regular videos on Saturdays. Thank you so much for making Wednesday videos a success these last few months! We will definitely return to making Wednesday videos in the near future, we are just going to slow down for a bit to get ahead on filming, to give us time to increase the quality of the videos that we make, and to relax a little so that we don't burn out. We love making these videos and, more than anything, we love you guys! We want to be sure that we make the best content possible and that this channel continues on for a long, long time.

Why? What exactly did he do apart from writing basic poetry that merits being put on a $10 bill and having multiple lizard species named after him? Like no offense, but there's so many other Australian historical figures that are more worthy of that. It seems as daft to me as naming 2 reptile species after a clumsy reptile keeper with a bachelor's degree who died prematurely at his own hand before ever actually accomplishing anything.
@chriswatson7965
@chriswatson7965 3 года назад
@@theraven5850 Lawson wrote at a time when reading was a vitally important part of life and culture. Almost everything Australians read at the time of any quality was written by someone foreign about foreign lands. Lawson wrote poetry and short stories about Australia and Australian conditions, and was one of the few whose quality could match the overseas. His work came to define what it meant to be Australian, and he remains to this day, one of the most influential Australians in history. These days animals are usually named after scientists only after they've died. This is in order to avoid the appearance of any conflict of interest. The animals named after Rankin were done so by his supervisors who had encouraged him into the field, and who clearly missed him.

My Lizzie dragon has had a hysterectomy. Last February (2018), she had eggs she couldn’t pass. Her vet was on his way to vacation, but stayed several hours over to do her surgery. She came through splendidly and is nice and healthy. She’s also plump. From what her vet has told me, this is due to a slowing down of her activity and her metabolism. As long as she’s healthy, she can be a little ‘fluffy’!

It all started with a bearded dragon for me! I haven't kept a reptile in my adult life. When I was a teen, I had a retail boa... That unfortunately met an untimely death after he escaped his enclosure 😬. My husband and children convinced me to get a bearded dragon hatchling. It was all over after that, I was hooked! We now have 2 beardies, 2 day geckos, and an Ultramel Ball python. Love watching both of your channels! 😍

Hey Clint this was a pretty good video and I’m glad that we are able to get more information about these amazing agamids out there, especially the different species which my Aussie friends tell me about all the time. Although I do have one issue with this video and I saw it mentioned in the CWD video, which is that agamids cannot regrow their tails. I have seen first hand with my Chinese Water Dragon and others dragons that their tails can regrow in the form of a stiffer black and slightly slimmer “rod”. Now I am not sure how many species can do this, but until proven I am going to assume that most can do this. I do theorize that it is more common to regrow as younger in their life, but the process of regeneration is there. I hope that we can get for research done on bearded dragons and other agamid species because as popular as they are there really isn’t a lot of studies done.

I have reptile-carpet in my enclosures but I also have a shoebox I cut in half full of sand. I also have an large root/tree like structure in my enclosure. Three different types of surfaces for them to choose from. So when my beardies feel like going on different substrates/surfaces they can. They have all thrived. I have never had any problems or deaths. I've been keeping beardies for a very long time. Give them plenty of choices and enrichment. It's not right to take advantage of our animals. Love the channel and i really love Dav K.

@moistlydripping8416
@moistlydripping8416 5 лет назад
Personally, I think that as keepers, we want to keep them for their entire lifespan, which is good. For most people that means a solid substrate like tiles and reptile carpets. I personally use a silicone-type mat for my bearded dragon Meep, because I want him to safe, and not have the risk of eating loose substrate. But that's just me and my own method to keep him. He still has enrichment in the enclosure...even though he's lazy and doesn't use it 90% of the time, it's still there for him to use at his will. I also don't use sand because the dust that it produces, actually makes me have an allergic reaction, so that's another reason why I refuse to use sand. I have thought about placing a "digging box" in his enclosure, full of eco earth, so he can dig and have more enrichment that way too. I don't think that baby bearded dragons should be housed on sand, but if you know what you're doing, and you have the knowledge to watch out for the signs of impaction, then feel free to house them on which ever substrate you choose. The other thing I do not agree with, is those dyed sands. You know the sand that's green or purple; usually Stop sign Red. The dye in that sand just stains their feet, hands, tails, and bellies. To me it just seems stupid to get this beautiful bearded dragon, and then have them get green dye on their bodies because the owner wanted to have cooler looking sand than the conventional brown or white. Trust me, I've been one of those people, telling people to stop keeping their bearded dragon on sand, and being mad at those who actually think it's okay. Now I've come to realize that people can and will do what they want, for their animals. And heck, if it works for them, then so be it. Because I know what works for me, and they know what works for them too. Now I just simply don't say anything unless I can see clear signs that the dragon is not well.

I thought I knew about bearded dragons. I stand corrected! 😀 No I had no idea there were 9 species! This video was AMAZING! I've learned so much, thanks guys, great collab! Such a fascinating and fun episode. Dav you truly are an encyclopedia, your knowledge of reptiles is outstanding! In fact it's Rad!!! 😁👍🦎 And you too Clint! This is how young people should be learning. You two should open a herpetology school - you'd be the most popular teachers ever! 😀

You are correct Clint! Sailfin Dragons are in the agamid family. And the largest of the Agamids. Genus “Hydrosaurus” for all three main species. (There is a supposed fourth species hailing from Halmahera, but further research needs to go into it)

When I brought my bearded dragon to meet my family, they were all amazed at how calm and curious he behaved. He just loved to be on my shoulder listening to everyone talking. Prior to this, my family would barely allow any reptiles around. Now at the very least they're OK with lizards :)

I've got a bioactive enclosure set up for my beardie, plenty of logs to climb around on and a basking mountain/cave for him, it's a red Australian sand/dirt/clay that I moistened when I put it in so it's a nice packed crust with just a little loose on top, I try to feed him off the substrate, but he wants to chase and hunt, so I give him what he wants and he seems happy as a lark, I'm not worried about him missing because I've seen him snatch flies out of mid air when they venture into his enclosure when the door is open, so he has the aim of an A1 marine sniper lol, I've had him in there for a week now keeping a very close eye on him, and he is still pooping once or twice a day and his appetite has actually increased substantially in the last week, now he is eating more like I've heard a young beardie should eat, I know, young beardie on loose substrate is a no no, same with mealworms, tho he's about 2 months old at this point, but from the scientific literature I've read and medical studies done on captive bearded dragons, I'm not worried because all my husbandry and supplements are on point, he doesn't even eat any of his shed, so he doesn't feel he's missing anything in his diet that he needs to supplement, and in the month I've had him he's only missed 2 days of not pooping, he poops at least once a day, even on the loose substrate, if not he's actually had more days of 2 poops a day in the last week than the first 3 weeks I had him combined, and they are healthy from what I've read, except after feeding him a nice size hornworm, then he passes a couple semi loose stools before they become normal again lol, but they are full of water tho, so he's happy and healthy and that's all that matters, going to be setting up his first vet appointment tomorrow to take him in and get a check up and fecal just to be sure, just gotta try to hide the fact he lives on loose substrate from the vet so I don't get an ear full lol, she already said nothing but repti carpet, but I'm well prepared for a scientific conversation with her about everything I've learned, he may have been an impulse buy, tho I've wanted one for a while, but I don't take the care and life of another living being under my care lightly, I'm a month in or so already and I'm still watching videos like this and reading literature to learn as much as I can about them to give my little guy the best life I can, so I am making as well informed decisions as I can

I personally switched my dragon to sand for a couple reasons. He kept getting under his carpets and newspapers and whatever but no matter what I tried hed scratch and get under it and he was glass surfing on top of it. I took a plunge and decided to try and see if maybe a more loose substrate would help and he seems happier to dig around! In fact he likes to baricade himself in his hide which i think is adorable. But it definitely helped in his case maybe not all dragons but thats always a case. He seems to dig whenever but i have less of the loose substrate near his food dish and more of a rocky slab stuff (not sure what to call it) cause it seems to help him shed as well having some stuff to scrap on rather than just his hide and his tree to his hammock for climbing

Hey Clint, can we ever maybe get a video in Blood pythons? I'm considering getting into them but almost every video I find, there's conflicting information, and 9/10 your advice and information is quite accurate.
