Would I want an isopod to replace my missing tongue? Depends. Talking is nice, sure, but could I still make out with my wife?

1,344 base pairs of DNA allow for 1.47 x 10^809 unique combinations. It takes 1,344 x 72 specific atoms to make a DNA sequence consisting of 1,344 base pairs. On planet Earth, there are only 10^50 atoms available to make DNA. It takes 72 atoms to make a single base pair of DNA. If all the atoms on planet EARTH were used for DNA, there could not be more than 1.39 x 10^48 base pairs of DNA. In the best case scenario for evolution, even if every single atom on planet earth were a unique sequence of DNA consisting of 1,344 base pairs, there could only exist 1 x 10^50 different sequences of this type.

I love the way you recognize and address even small details/nuances. My favorite example thus far is at 23:05, "mutation, randomly or nearly randomly, ..." You caught a nuance that I'd never seen before, save in papers written BY scientists FOR scientists. Most of what you've said here I already knew and under similar circumstances I'd typically just move on. But your presentation was so good I'll be watching at least some of your other videos. Thanks and Bravo!

If we're going to bring back extinct animals, I do think it should be animals that went extinct due to human activity AND no later than 1900, and even that might be going back a bit too far. Are these arbitrary rules? Of course. But we need a stopping point somewhere. An animal that went extinct before 1900 would probably no longer have a niche or the ability to live in the current climate. Even the Tasmanian tiger, which went extinct less than 100 years ago, might have trouble adapting to today's climate. So maybe, instead of looking that far back, let's start with species that went extinct in the last few years. The Golden toad, Pinta giant tortoise, mountain mist frog, sharp-snouted day frog, and the Chinese paddlefish for example of species that have gone extinct in the last 14 years. I will admit that the live between human caused and non-human caused extinction, especially from the last few centuries, is a very fine line.

You say don't lick the frogs, but as a kid I'd always give ones I caught a kiss to see if they'd turn into a prince (thankfully bullfrogs are not toxic). None did, but I still like the frogs.

I trained a WILD (12 to 15yr old) 1.5m Lace Monitor in 3 hours (Oct2023)- all on video (obviously in my YT channel Mr Cheeky). Just went back to the bush after a 5 month gap from my visit in November - he remembered me and Ive now significant footage of him, and one of his offspring climbing all over me - he was seriously gentle, given these Apex dinosaurs are seriously dangerous! 🦎🦎 Yes Mr Cheeky the wild goanna did steal my shoes, dish cloths and even a big cushion - so funny - he was embarrased when caught.... they are such special animals. Ive only had 2 very minor bites - all accidental. Id seen this same animal in the rpior 7 years of camping in the area - he never approached anybody. Ive fallen in love with a wild dinosaur - he is now hybernating Id guess (May 2024) Mr cheeky learned my stailess steel bowl was where food n Kefir was. He stopped raiding my tent on my April 2024 visit.

As a guy with 5 aquariums, I believe that fish got a bad rap. Freshwater fish are not venomous and even piranhas are safe and docile contrary to popular belief. They're in the Tetra Family. I also have a canister filter which is whisper quiet and it doesn't need a lot of maintenance because I have an ecosystem in all my tanks with tons of plants. The plants act as filters. I have cleanup crews of snails, shrimp, loaches, and corydora catfish. If these factors are considered, the fish would tie or beat the reptiles. (I might be a lil grumpy and biased but I'm still right. lol) Great video nonetheless and sorry for the 2 year late comment. :)

I think the issue is that the name Simian is most commonly associated with Simiiformes, which includes Cercopithecidae (Old World Monkeys), Platyrrhini (New World Monkeys), and Hominoidea (Apes). The confusion comes when people conflate Catarrhini (Old World Anthropoids) and Cercopithecidae (Old World Monkeys). Similar to how Giant Pandas are Ursidae while Red Pandas are Ailuridae - neither are within a clade Panda, despite the fact that they are both called Pandas. The fact that there are Old World Monkeys (Cercopithecidae) and New World Monkeys (Platyrrhini) does not make the Simiiforme clade Monkey. Thus exists disagreement over whether Simians are synonymous with Monkeys. In my mind, Apes are Anthropoidal Simians, not Monkeys. Splitting hairs, but there it is ;^)

The monophyletic group was new world monkeys, that man's question is irrelevant because he is deliberately ignoring the fact that new world monkeys had to share a MONKEY ancestor with old world monkeys. So, duh, we are monkeys in the same way all terrestrial vertebrates are fish, amphibians, and reptiles. We are many things, we are multitudes!

While i appreciate the neutrality, the harm creationism causes and the way its being used, by their own words, to put religion back into the government, that is the issue. And why i belive creationism should NOT be in the same room as science. Religions belong in theology.

Watching your videos are so fascinating and amazing. I used to be scared of a lot of the animals on your videos and after learning about them, I understand them better and have gained a new fondness and respect for them. We as humans tend to typically attack that which we fear (or in these animals cases, squish/hunt/kill). If we only understood the beauty, intelligence, and benefit these creatures provide, I would like to think the majority of us would support them rather than try to destroy them. Thank you for making these videos; you are helping me not only get over my fears, but to appreciate the smaller and less noticeable creatures in this world. Plus, you are a spazzy ball of funergy (fun energy. MY word.) So that helps too.
