Wow wtf never expected a reaction to this song. It's not one of their most popular, but it's amazing. Animal Collective is one of my favorite bands ever, each album is so different , so creative. They are FOR SURE an album band! Sung Tongs and Merriweather Post Pavilion are probably my favs. But all of them (Before Painting With) are worth listening to. You should listen to Death Grips albums! Specifically The Money Store and The Powers that B (specifically the first half). Even if you don't react, they are just amazing pieces of work.
I had the same reaction to this song and album. Did You See the Words, The Grass, The Purple Bottle, Loch Raven, Banshee Beat, and Turn Into Something are unreal too.
The Feels album is pure bliss. It's like a dark old school Disney-esque soundtrack. I think you would dig Fireworks off their followup as a song to react to.
You got it man! Diving into AnCo is a strange and beautiful journey... A bit of a fun fact about this whole album, the band had a detuned piano with them, and it sounded so interesting, they actually tuned their other instruments to the tuning of that piano for the recording of this album. That's what gave this album that unique, sweet, almost nostalgic feel. Great reaction!
I was a huge fan of The Beach Boys before discovering Animal Collective and I think that's why AnCo's music clicked for me instantly, they were a huge musical influence on Noah Lennox (AnCo's Panda Bear), and it was great seeing you spotting it!
So glad you enjoyed this! To answer your question, I would say it is more of a "Hidden Favorite" than anything else. It is not one of the BIGGEST favorites favorites they have, but a lot of fans like that song a lot. Feels is one of my favorite albums of all time. Also I love Death Grips too and there is some of the same chaotic energy in AC as there is in DG (not in this song though). Please do more Anco and some Death Grips.
Yes! AnCo is to 2000s experimental pop/psych as the Ramones are to 70s punk. Absolutely classic. This one is a fan favorite for sure. Most of us love their earlier albums the most.
I feel like you'd really love LCD Soundsystem. I'm not sure why but this song brought them into my head. Specifically I think you'd love the song "Dance Yrself Clean"
Oh man, this album is something else. Do you remember that daft punk song "doing it right"? The guest vocals on that were by Panda Bear, who drums and sings on this album. In terms of this song, it's definitely a popular one! I don't remember if it was a single per se. But yeah, definitely check out all their solo material and guest appearances too. And if you're looking for another animal collective song to cover, they have a new album out in about a week with a 22 minute song called defeat that is simply incredible. And THATS how you create a new AnCo fan hahah I’ve been obsessed to this band for years, and I got really excited seeing you enjoying this song so much because I introduced AnCo to all of my friends, but it’s not for everyone. The only problem with AnCo is that it’s hard drugs: you keep searching for similar things to fulfill you this way, but there is nothing like it. Is really unique and addicting.

Oh my god I loved this video. Instant sub. You have to listen to this band. They go so deep into music. I'd say another great one from Feels (this album) is The Purple Bottle. Something from another album would be Brother Sport, a personal favourite.
I'm a casual listener so I don't know too much about music theory, but I always described this to my friends as Beach Boys plus African tribal rhythms 😄
