It's so free, this kind of feeling It's like life, it's so appealing When you've got so much to say it's called gratitude And that's right Good times gone but you feed it Hate's grown strong, you feel you need it Just one thing, do you know you? I've never seen a Leslie close up, so I really liked seeing it too. Instead of having "Pink Floyd London" on their cabinets, having "Beastie Boys New York" would have been cool, and it would have made the homage a little less obvious. I used to work for an AV company, and I had to stencil some big speakers that we got, and I made a stencil that said " NPI Cleveland" in the same style as my own little homage.

One of the sickest overdriven bass lines ever (thanks Nathaniel Hörnblowér). Up there with Jack Bruce's Apostrophe with Frank Zappa. Beastie Boys were not only hot to trot on the mike, they were accomplished musicians. That's why they lasted so long. They supposedly had one-hit wonder written all over them after licensed to ill, but (beastie) boy, how wrong were the haters.

What have we got here? A rap/punk/rock group paying homage to an influencer, Pink Floyd. A Hammond organ played through a Leslie speaker. Vox amps (Pink Floyd and another band called the Beatles used these a lot). Fender jazz bass played through a fuzz tone (Paul McCartney did this a lot back in the day). Snare drum tuned to produce a sharp “crack.” Man the beastie boys had one foot in history and the other foot years ahead of their time. I hear what would come later, audioslave, limp bizkit, kid rock, rage against the machine... but the beastie boys did it first. Been a fan since Licensed to ill dropped back in ‘86 but never appreciated their genius, hard work, and raw talent until I’ve seen their influence. I have a newfound love the beastie boys, truly beasts at the beat Miss you MCA ✌🏻

Hate to correct here but PF played Hiwatt amps, Fender Twin Reverbs, Selmer Treble +Bass. No Voxes.
@Gardner0871public
@Gardner0871public 3 года назад
@@giloro85 no worries bro! Yes you are absolutely correct. I was wrong on that. Gilmour only played Vox on rare occasions (and only around 67-68). Turns out he used fender silver face amps (like you stated) too but mostly used Hiwatt amps especially on live performances. I learned something today. I appreciate the correction my friend.

I was manic when I first heard "Check your head" and loved it. I bought the audio tape from a shop selling bootleg tapes in Turkey, I wish I had bought it from somewhere more legitimate so that the proceeds made it back to the rightful artists now. The is the phattest bass line and even doubles as a solo that almost sounds like a guitar solo even though it follows the same rhythm pattern with some sick variations thrown in. MCA is just killing it on this song and when the others join in and do their thing it's just the funkiest, heaviest, coolest sound with great lyrics. As a bass player myself, I just love this song and can't stop playing it every few days. The Beasties were so bad ass from start to finish. I'm terribly sorry I never got to see them live. Every video I see of them live it looks like a party and everyone can't help but get into them and jamming to their grooves and lyrics.
