In an interview with Anthony Mason, Beastie Boys members Adam Horovitz and Michael Diamond address the similarities between their Licensed to III album cover from 1986 and Eminem’s “Kamikaze” cover from August 2018. I remember seeing them in Birmingham, UK in 86 or 87. I was about 16. They were doing a tour with RUN DMC. It is still the most important gig I have ever seen. Rap and hip hop were still not very high in Britain. The newspapers were outraged at their behaviour st the time. Looking back, it was really pretty tame.

The manufactured outrage sold a lot of papers, and as a byproduct turned a load of people in the UK onto hip-hop. Worth reading/listening to the Beastie's recent book to check it out from their perspective. They were crazy times. I saw them in Brighton with Run DMC in 87. Maybe the same tour you saw. Our gang had been playing the LP all summer- we weren't the types to be told what to do/ think by the media and mostly still aren't.

Lol. It was an honor to meet MCA on top of a mountain when B BOYS were at Sundance film festival. I was a bus boy at a food court. I grabbed his empty tray then went to grab adrocks ( he said hed get his) but when i turned and went n dumped the one tray Adam must have jumped up and followed me because when i took my usual stance so i could see the food court, to better grab empty trays, he was standing like right in my rea, sorta playful like. Wow chatted with him a little before everyone realized it was them. Then the whole place was transformed. I got back to work and then i sorta looked up and Adam was still being playful and like kinda locked on me still. Wow! I will never forget that moment. It lives in me and helps me remember some very interesting and beatiful things. I going back to that place now. Peace.

Damn, this makes me feel old. Licensed To Ill was the first compact disc I ever bought. Everything changed for me that day when i came home and listened to that entire album for the first time. I've always loved Eminem from day one, but the Beastie Boys are on another level. They are like "The Beatles" of my generation. (Lol, I love The Beatles too!)

@@Adventure_Quan A chunk of mine are gone too. Fortunately when I started getting into CDs I didn't care about my tapes as much. Now I treasure my tapes more than the CDs. Lol. I also have House of Pain & Black Sheep in their original cases with the books. Almost all of my others are missing the cases and books. I still have probably close to 200 recorded tapes I've made over a lifetime that survived. I have a bookcase dedicated to my youth with all my tapes, open reel tapes, VCR tapes (all my tape media). Still have a handful of unopened blank cassettes I'm sitting on to use one day.

Yeah they hardly look like they did when they were young, sadly aging hasn't been very kind to either of them and has taken it's toll. I just recently said the same thing about John Goodman when I saw him in an episode of "The Conners" the was so thin and frail looking in it. Kinda like Mike D and AD-Rock look now. :( (except Beastie Boys much younger)

These guys are exactly my age and I remember like yesterday being in college and my buddy came back from a Madonna concert and these guys open for them and they were boot off the stage at the two singles they just didn’t have it. They kept working on it and then obviously 86 they exploded with a little more rock. You have the right to party and that album exploded and then give them credit. They did their kind of punk rock thing so give them credit they persevered and rest in peace he had a short and it’s amazing. He kept himself in good shape the last couple years and he just things just fell apart for him. He died so young and these two guys are my age and boy. They have an age so well, I look 10 years younger just saying.

As a teen, LOVED that adults didn't know the plane said DJ EatMe . Was coming into my late teens from my early teen days of parents trying to play albums backwards to find "hidden meaning" in metal tracks. Beastie Boys just put it right there in plain sight. Best part of CD's was opening the slip cover to find out if a band/artist cared enough to put fun stuff in the slip cover! For EMINEM to hide "Suck It!" And "F*** You Too" on the side is awesome. But...the internet is now the ultimate narc so nothing is hidden any more.

I have it on VERY good authority that The Beastie Boys are thoroughly nice chaps, there was a sprinkle of Geoff Goldblum in this interview, and that can never be a bad thing🏆 RIP MCA
