They don't really need to compete, like you pointed out this technology is more suited to situations people would normally choose fast-food instead. There are shops that remind me of how this robot cooks. Pasta portions are already in boxes and they just reheat yours after throwing in some ingredients according to the order. You get no "chef-grade food" in those shops, but they can serve clients in a minute or two. That is what I'd expect from such a robot, except that they seems to be able to cook more varied dishes than those fast-pasta places usually offer, without much more planning involved.
