This is more like footman frenzy or marine arena rather than true rts. Kinda like a Fast RTS vs traditional one. i think this is a fantastic game tho

and good thing is he didnt ruin anything. He has achieved nothing during his days, and he is not doing it now.

Problem for me is that with it's speed and complexity it's actually going to be even more competitive than most RTS. There's not really any room for mistakes when you have to act the second the game starts and you've got like 30 seconds before a game ending decision is made

@@greatbigeyeball While true, the absence of production buildings and instant build times are huge. Even if you objectively fucked up, and the game is over, you still feel like you have a chance at pulling back and stabilizing with the next batch of units. Tricking the player like is really important.

@@greatbigeyeball For me, I think the opposite is true. This game is simpler to pickup and play by casuals. One, like others mentioned. No need to Macro. No need to put X workers on resource one and Y workers on resource two. Heck you don't even need to think about building placements as expansion is just one button click away. Two, I am not seeing weapon upgrades. So no need to think if his ranged unit has 1-1 or 3-3 upgrades, or if you need to upgrade melee, range or armor or whatever. Three, there are no classes or races or unique units. Decks are universal. You see a set of units you want to run with, you can run with it. All you need to know are the units and that's it and in all RTS you need to know what units do so nothing special or additional here. All the same units, no longer ranged archers for one race while another race can make archers on horses. Same available units to everyone.

Or much simpler put: a mistake you learn from costs you 10 minutes tops, not half an hour of building, scouting etc. This having a countdown makes it much more sporty like a boxing competition and it’s brilliant. But replayability beyond ladder for casuals is key.

This generic soft-shaded cartoony style that every low-budget 3D game seems to use nowadays (and also Fortnite) gets a bit old in the tooth. But I think they did a pretty good job making every unit cute and recognizable.

long games = long queue times, which is unsustainable with smaller player populations. RTS as a niche genre nowadays has to adapt in order to make sure their slice of the cake still has the good stuff.

Not every RTS game must follow the same formula. And this game doesn't reinvent the wheel - RTS games with fixed nodes instead of base building like Z and Sacrifice have existed for longer (Herzog Zwei predates Dune 2 by years), they've just been in the shadow of WC/SC and C&C series for decades.

But thats the reason why I am enjoying this game so much for 1v1. It simple and fast. It does not make me as tired and stressed as SC2 or AOE 4. It is good to have this option.

Just because Base takes the form of unlocking tech for units in your deck doesn't mean it's not there. It's a different form to explore the RTS space instead of retreading ground - just because something works doesn't mean it can't be improved.

i personally wouldnt call base building, unit production, and... well... any amount of macro, bullshit. macro literally makes up half of typical rts gameplay, and constitutes a big part of the skills needed to be considered a competitive rts player. while strategy is still somewhat present, it is largely diminished with the whole minimal macro idea imo

all in all, i dont mind the formula that the devs went for, but in the vein as cnc rivals, which i did enjoy overall, it is far from the ideal form of rts

You mean rts with 30-20% of the skill and 10% of the strategy that's present in most rts games. This is more like a party brawling game in practice, which doesn't mean it's bad, but tiptoes the line of completely lacking strategy once people figure out what's most optimal (game literally just started its beta, so nobody really knows what to make yet), making high APM the most important factor. Not exactly fun for a slower players who focus on macro play instead of micro to keep up with their opponents
