As an L.A. sports fan, I love this chant. There's no universal "Beat New York" or "Beat Dallas" or "Beat The Bay Area Teams Which Mostly Refuse To State What City They're In" chant, but L.A. has had consistently good teams in so many sports that you can hear this an arenas all over the country. They hate us, because they anus.
i love celts fans. to come up with that chant is was the epitome of great sportsmanship. i was a laker fan back then but how can you not be fond of your opponent.
Tonight is game 4 of the 2018 ECF with the Celtics leading the series 3-0. Will the Sixer fans chant “beat Cleveland” tonight if the Celtics have a lead at the end in hopes of getting Lebron ? I can’t see him leaving if the Cavs make the finals.
you have a complete misunderstanding of what happened here. The Boston fans were doing this chat as a tribute to their hated rival - the 76ers. Boston and Philly HATED each other more than anything else back then. THe Sixers had blown a 3-1 lead in the ECF the previous season. The loss haunted them. Boston fans were paying their respect for avoiding a repeat as they won game 7 in the Boston Garden - nearly impossible for an opposing team
They think this is iconic but really it’s pretty pathetic to be cheering for an opposing team to beat the Lakers after your team couldn’t even take care of business lol
Wasn't a sign of good sportsmanship...exactly the opposite. We hate the Lakers so much that the team that knocked us out of the playoffs 2 minutes before we are now cheering for.
