Set mining, STRONG flush draws and suited connectors. I love to play for the wheel here. Road to the poor house are strong aces (AK - A10) that flop top pair only. Overplaying top pair only = losing session. Two pair or greater. I find that you can often stack the players with the weak suited king (K7s, etc.) with trips quite easily. Solid video here. This is just about every 1/2 NL game at my local card room. It does take time though. 5hour session is average. But hey, a round of golf takes about 4 hours these days.

I play in a real loose weekly 2-5 NL game (tomorrow night), and I have definitely been more successful when I stick to these general strategies. One thing you said that hit me as quite brilliant is the idea of avoiding Reverse Implied Hand Types. I never thought it through how hands like K-10 off or K-9 off are "1-pair" hands, which are weak in four or five player pots. I can recall losing with top pair many times to two-pair or better. I will apply this to my list of strategies tomorrow and see if I can maximize profits (or minimize losses). Love the videos. Thanks for the tips.

The point about position is fairly important. In online games often there will be 1 or 2 fish at the table, while the rest will be tight regulars. You want there to be fish, but if they are on your direct left, it can be a very tough table to win at. The reason is, the fish will call you all the time, which prevent you from stealing the blinds and force you to play a lot of pots out of position. Typically you will also not be able to take it down with a C-bet very often, because the fish will tend to not fold very much postflop either, and especially not in position. So you are really forced to make hands, and it can get quite frustrating, when you dont. The fish on your left also create a situation, where other players have a great incentive to 3-bet you, because he is putting dead money in the pot all the time for them to attack. Which is typically also not something, that is particularly beneficial to your game, unless you are lucky enough to be dealt hands like AA or KK. You can make adjustments to your game to combat this situation like tightening your opening range all the way until CO, tightening your C-betting range, and just being more patient. But sometimes the best line of action is to simply leave the table and look for one, where you can get position on a fish and not the other way around.

Patience should be #1. I can't count the number of times that I folded a solid hand in a tourney when I really wanted to force the action, then ended up winning the tourney when I would have been out.

I continue to enjoy your thinking. You distill information in a manner that makes sense, and reinforces my belief in how to play. I try to play my cards to start with, but particularly when I am in late position, I am trying to steal chips as so often, people do not play when the flop misses them!

Thanks for the kind words David I'm glad the channel is helping you out. Slowly adding aggression to your game is a great way to improve - see it as an experiment and note what works and what doesnt. Definitely adding a few more hands based on position is a good way to go

Am doing just okay in poker. Been playing for last 3years.been winning.. But very slow. But when a down swing hits. It affects me very badly. The downswing literally hits me. Nothing works. You could say I am one very unlucky players. Like playing for values. Moves. Raising with big non made hands don't help me much or may be very very less . Only patience and grinding has helped me to win over time. So am sure am losing a lot of non made profit component. I do follow many points u say. Definitely my game has too too much to explore. May be 99. 999% more to learn. Ha ha..:). But trust me. I really really love your videos. They way you explain. Very helpful videos. Many new ideas. And many old ideas which I always followed with my experience over time got some confidence due to your videos. Subscribed. Will see. Re-see. Re-re-see your videos to help myself.. Great job sir. :). Hopefully I become very good big winning player and kill my unlucky part and make sure only my +ev works for me. Thank you. God bless.

Brilliant! I hate playing loose-passive games because they are annoying and boring but you have to go where the money is, right? If I can make more per hour, then the agony is more worthwhile.

@Transform My Poker, Here's an easier method. Find a European roulette table and simply bet 1 dollar on either black or red. If you win, continue to bet on that same color. However, if you lose switch colors and double the bet. Unless a catastrophic loss streak occurs which is near impossible, you can always get your money back and then some. Under reasonable analysis, a 1 dollar bet is a safe way to prevent a bad streak because doubling that would be: 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, 256, 512. In other words, add this up and that would essentially be your bankroll in the event you lose 10 straight times, which in reality is possible but highly unlikely. And lastly, I say european roulette table as opposed to american variant because the single green will offset the house odds to about 2.7 percent compared to 5.3 percent respectively. If you don't believe me, draw a simple red and black square and flip a coin to simulate the betting outcome and you'll see~

Nick, you are one of my favorite poker pros to listen to, and I honestly try to really study the game, but I feel like just giving up on poker because I feel like I am at a place where my knowledge is good enough to move up from the fishy lower level games, but my bankroll is not. I play at the level I can afford to play but time and again I lose to people who I feel like I have an edge over. I just came back from another losing session where there were two obvious fishy players and I could clearly see that they had no knowledge of the game, but they just got lucky every time. I thought it was nights like tonight when I was supposed to make up for the nights when I was the fish, but it seems the poker universe does not work that way.

Even if you are the best player at a table, you are going to have almost as many losing as winning sessions. That is just the nature of the game, and why it require so much patience. Especially for live players because they play much less hands per week or month than an online player.

Sometimes i make advanced play like delayed c.bets. trapping opponent when headsup but it seems like many times my opponent hits his 2 or 6 outer. While i m verry agressive by nature. But the luck involved sometimes destroys my game

Sounds like you're getting too cute with your game against these players. Poker is all about exploiting the mistakes of your opponent and calling stations are already making exploitable mistakes; they are calling far too often. These players will rarely lead or raise unless they've made a strong hand but will often call with nothing more than a backdoor draw or an over card to the board. So, by trapping, you're often just denying yourself a street of value and giving these guys a free card that they can use to beat you. Just stick to betting for value and these games will get a whole lot easier.

I have got some money from poker, but lately, I had so many bad beats against brainless guys. I call all in with AQ, the guy have A10 and hit the 10 on the river, I make set of kings on the flop with K10, and the guy with JJ calls my all in with JJ and hit the other J on the river, in a board of 8KK2J. not to mention that every time I go all in with AA, some one calls with lower pair and hit a set. its hard to play consistant when idiots get that 2% chance of winning

I think you need to balance how much you can win by value betting, and how much you'll lose when outdrawn. A bad run could cripple you if you get too greedy.
