People have also said that after the main character's gf left him, he went into a schizophrenic downwards spiral, and likely hallucinated/deluded himself with a plot against him involving the president.

The room you kept loading into at the beginning was the Steam VR Desktop Theater, basically a fancy way to watch a stream of your monitor from VR.
