@@JKLeedsthey also made it so that the distance you roll with the light roll increases inversely with your weight, but I don’t know if it’s based on the percentage or the actual number
Yep! That’s part of what let me beat Malenia the first time! I did it with my fists, which I’m (maybe a little too) proud of. EDIT: I would like to clarify that I used the Caestus.
Just something to mention, the ripple blade and halberd are unique as they scale solely with arcane but can't be infused, because their intended use is to be a vessel for greeses, as most of them scale with arcane when applied
Is THAT how greases work? Huh, never knew that. Update: it turns out that’s specifically how greases that inflict STATUS EFFECTS work. Fire is boosted with faith, magic with intelligence, etc., etc.
Malenia's WFD was never nerfed, but the roll distance (most notably the light roll) is substantially greater now. it's such a treat to watch other people's strategies for dodging the move. this was a very engaging watch! thank you :^)
Stormveil is actually my favorite, simply because there's way way way more in it than you'd think. there's so many secrets that being summoned to guide players around it means I almost always show them something they've never seen before. You'd think such an early area would have a lot less going on but no, From Soft proves yet again that level design is their truest strength
I actually did almost exactly that for Godfrey! I used the Highland Axe for his first phase, then Caestus for his second. Mostly because I coincidentally used those two weapons for the whole game, but also because I think he’s SUPER FUCKING COOL.
22:30 woah that’s me! Super cool to make a surprise appearance (perhaps a bigger collab could be on the horizon? 🤔🤔🤔) and glad you also became a fan of the Bolt! I’ll also mention that the dragonkin weapons are both personal favourites as well. I enjoy all the legacy dungeons in the game but my top 3 would be Stormveil, the Academy, and then a tie between the Capital and Farum Azula. Love this series, and would certainly be interested to see similar runs in other games in the series. In most challenge runs I’ve done (SL1, magic only, bow only, etc) I ended up using only a handful of weapons at most. In fact, I’ve never even used a twinblade in DS2. Can you believe that? Speaking of DS2, I just started a new run and unintentionally managed to adhere to the challenge’s rules through the Forest of Fallen Giants. If you don’t mind, could I perhaps yoink this idea and do a DS2 video on it? Would be certain to credit the idea to you
Awesome video again. You've become one of my favorite youtubers as of late. I like how you're a regular guy just sharing your love for these games, not playing a role for maximum views. Keep it real dude, happy 2023!
Aspect of the Crucible: Horns isn't really a damage spell. It has good poise damage and inflicts a knockdown on most human sized enemies, the kind where they get flung into the air before landing on their face.
@@JKLeeds oh by the by, Waterfowl Dance wasn't nerfed but Light Rolling was buffed to have a larger roll distance. Apparently it's now faster than sprinting?
Ah but the highlander axe is so good! "Just an axe" undersells it so much! Most of the other axes in the game require much higher stats to wield and can't be infused with everything like the highlander. Plus it does a TON of poise damage with its two handed jump attacks. It's literally my friend's single weapon he uses through the whole game.
All of your videos are so entertaining. Thank you for making them! I do video editing so I know how frustrating that can be sometimes, so I'm very appreciative you power through on top of coming up with ideas and scripts for your videos on top. Cheers!
That's very nice to hear you enjoy them 🙂 video editing can be challenging but honestly I really enjoy it. It's kind of like putting together the pieces of a puzzle
Its nice to see someone else who likes Placidusax! My personal faiv is Mohg, second faiv is Godfrey and 3rd is Placidusax. I personaly do enjoy the valiant gargoyles for some reason. Its kinda fun to multi task. A great video i hope to watch more!
It's hard for me to pick an all-time favorite legacy dungeon, but I'd have to say it's a tie between Nokron and the Shunning Grounds. I love Nokron because it's one of the most visually striking areas in the game for me. The ruins strewn about the place, that false night sky, the eerie droning music. It's all so beautiful. The Shunning Grounds I love mostly for the lore surrounding it. Learning of all the dirty secrets and refuse of the current Order that were locked up in the sewers was fascinating. From the Omen to the mass caravan grave and Frenzy Flame Proscription. Even the Dung Eater, my favorite Elden Ring NPC, is found here.
If I could skip the grinding and all the empty big areas, I probably would give this challenge a shot. It looks fun ad cool. Well to be fair, you makes it look fun and cool
loved your channel man, you got video ideas that i've never seen anywhere and the attention that you have with your subscribers, like, you answered every comment, thats crazy. You got a new sub, keep doing these type of videos
What's funny about this endgame is, for my first playthrough, I mostly used the Starscourge Greatswords, and I struggled a /ton/ with Radagon and I don't think I ever made it to Elden Beast. Eventually, I switched to a primarily strength-based build, with Godfrey's axe as the weapon, and managed to get through in just a few more tries afterwards.
I got a vid idea that I'm pretty interested in for you to tackle should you want to, the balancing of end game areas in FromSoft games. Generally, the amount of limiting mechanics to hinder the player tend to increase immensely when in endgame areas. - Ds1: Dukes Archives just spawns a ton of basic human crystal enemies with high damage with archers and mages hitting you from range. Crystal caves have invisible walkways with enemies that can knock you off. You can't see shit in the Tomb of the Giants. Lost Izalith just wasn't finished but is also not that interesting. - Ds 2: Dragonpeak is forcing you to fight the giants or an army of strong damaging dragon enemies with insane damage. Shrine of Amana has you walking in water with those mages firing at you and the Undead Tombs have those bell ringing summoned mages and an army in front of the boss fog (not to mention the optional areas in the DLC). - Ds 3: DS3: the Jailors reduce your max hp to pretty much zero with limited options to counter it. Disneyland has the amount of enemies made much higher with a lot of dogs, supported by invisible enemies and those strong fire mages. Instead of one you fight 2 Pontiff beasts. Archdragon Peak has flying Wyverns and some Chainsnake type enemies that have enormous range, health and damage. - Elden Ring: Haligtree has gravity Elphael has some incredibly tanky spear dudes which mostly come in pairs and are supported by ballistas. Normal enemies pretty much deal a third to half of a 40 vigor healthbar in one swing. The Evergoal that takes you to the Haligtree has insane DPS Mage Archers with the black Assassins who spam grab attacks with high HP (they are pretty much impossible to kill without the torch). In Farum Azula they have a ton of birds with a Dragon spewing Lighting and some of the Dragon Warriors have crazy long combos which can be dodged but with some bad RNG they do them multiple times causing you to just roll away and wait (mostly the double sword ones). - Bloodborne has the poison swamp areas, frenzy nightmare and the shark well (the trauma) I short, I feel like designing those end game areas can be really tricky, especially with time constraints and balance in mind. What would your idea for a good Souls endgame be? Just increasing the damage that basic enemies do to 100 doesn't really work imo. Something like adding bosses from the early game as a regular enemy could work but does take away a bit from the experience and uniqueness of said boss. Curious what your take on this would be : )
Just as good as the previous video. Really excited for more potential challenge runs. Though, just wanted to point out, there are only 6 developer stated Legacy Dungeons. Stormveil, Raya Lucaria, Volcano Manor, Leyndell, Farum, and Haligtree. The rest are just major dungeons or underground areas. Other than that, really great video. edit: Ironic that so many people think that shunning grounds is bad, considering it's the closest they've gotten to recreating Ds1's style of world design. I think it's more the enemies, less the level.
The Serpentbone Blade's Charged R2 is my favorite R2 in the whole game. It's a double slash faster than Double Slash AOW and does real good damage with the axe Talisman and gives the Sword Insignia boost immediately
"As if he had infinite FP" It's almost as if, say, the all knowing guy has a lot of mind. ;) Great video tho, and a super cool concept that really does highlight a lot of cool details!
the dragon halberd is really cool as if you use the special twice in a row (directly after the first spin slash) you get a cool attack that deals huge damage
dear god I forgot in the night garden existed, that stuff was my childhood hearing it mentioned in an Elden ring video of all things was in fact unexpected
Yooo I’m so glad the algorithm recommended your channel to me! Love the run and love your music choice. Also definitely remember watching In the Night Garden when I was a kid so that’s a fun reference😂
Hand of Malenia is a good weapon. It would come in handy if it weren’t for the challenge rules. This weapon is for people who prefer a more hands on approach to combat. What makes it satisfying to use is the fact that it isn’t handed to you and you have to earn it. The reason for this comment is that I had a lot of hand puns I wanted to share. Keep up the good work great run as always.
Editing thing: for me at least, you tend to remove images too quickly for the reference or joke or info to really land. From personal experience I know it may seem like you're keeping them on screen for too long, but that's because you already know what they are, where they are, and why they're there. What I did to figure out good timing was to watch some favorite videos with this style and literally time how long they leave things on screen. I think I ended up nearly doubling the amount of time my images stayed up. A good example is your Raya Lucaria joke. It would land better visually if the images went up sequentially as you say the syllables, and also if you were standing still in the gameplay so the two things didn't fight for visual priority. Love the video!
My biggest Elden Ring flex will always be beating the valiant gargoyles NG+2 with no PC summons while being on 3.5 grams of psilocybin mushrooms 😅 it was definitely something
Stormveil Castle is special to me as the first legacy dungeon and just overall a fun experience to get into the game with. Leyndell is probably my favorite overall if we don’t count the sewers, it just made the world actually look lived in. Considering I quit partway through out of anger, I’m surprised at how much I actually love Halingtree, it feels like the most visually interesting dungeon and something about it pleases me. Maybe it’s because I’m finally in my ideal armor set with dual +10/25 weapons, but it could just be a nice place to visit.
Erm..I totally did do respecs at certain points towards the end 😅 I mentioned in the video when I did. It's totally possible to do without but would just take hours of farming
Because even with respec, I would have had to do so much farming to get below fat roll and plus the fat roll was more challenging and thus hopefully more entertaining to watch 😂
wanna say, crucible horn is one of my favorite spells as it annihilates anyone that is roughly your size. Sadly Godrick is too chonky for it to really shine, so I hope you give it another go
You sounded genuinely grateful for some very mild weapons, because anything is better than nothing. good lesson about how we need to be aware of context so we can avoid depression
My first full playthrough of elden ring was a no-magic, all physicality build. High vig, end, str, dex, and nothing else. Full heavy armor with medium rolling, a crossbow in the back pocket for range, and 2 maxed Commander's Standards. Basically, when you said dual-weilding halberds is great? Yes. Yes it is. 🤣
The bolt of gransax and the dragon kings cragblade have the best ashes of war. I was doing a int build on my first play through and i beat the game but then i learned about those weapons and started another play-through pretty much immediately. I put 85 hours onto my dex play-through. Easily my favorite ashes of war in the game
THis is Honestly really cool, love the idea. when i get my pc fixed to play elden ring might try do something like this myself. defiently a well earned Subscribe
When I fought the regal ancestor spirit halfway through the fight it used the teleport move but accidentally teleported out of the arena and after about a minute of sitting there boss hp bar dissapears and it gives the rememberace
the strenght of the ripple halberd is not it's base damage or it's high arcane scaling but is actualy the fact that is one of the three only weapons in the game that has arcane scaling and can use greases on, at 60 arcane the blood grease does 94 bleed build up while the drawn string gets to 121
I imagine the reason most people find Godskin Duo worse than the Gargoyle Duo is because you can (normally) just not do the Gargoyle fight if you hate it, but Godskin Duo is a required boss to beat the game.
Can you beat Elden Ring alone? RULES: 1) No Ash of War 2) No Merchants 3) No upgrading weapons 4) No sidequests that require you to talk to an NPC 5) No talking to any NPC for any reason. You are a strong independent pixel, and you don't need no renderer.
Yeah he's quite hidden away to be fair, you have to go through a portal to get to him from the lower level or do a lot of dropping down in the bit past Mimic Tear
Fun facts! 1. Crucible horns actually has super armor, which allows for easy damage so long as the enemy doesn't have stupid high poise damage 2. The dragon halberd you used has a follow-up on the ash of war, which has an aoe on water, which might've helped with ancestor spirit 3. Gravity spells actually do physical damage, gravity well is just a bit shit as a damage dealer. 4. I've never done redmane castle as a dungeon, only the radahn fight, verbally assault me for this. 5. Greatshield soldiers take barely any damage from physical damage, so they are excellent against the Godfrey shade. 6. Valient gargoyles suck
One thing really good about about Miquellan Knight Sword against Malenia (one that I used against her recently) is the R2, where you can use that to land a charged attack on Malenia from a distance after some combo finishers to close in the gap between yourself and her while also dealing damage. Really fun weapon to use against her despite dealing Holy Damage. Also the quick, uncharged R2 is also a fun tool to counter her kick with the right timing since she’d lose her hyperarmour right after the kick attack for you to counter her right before she continues her combo
@@JKLeeds oh definitely. That was the very setup I mostly used to defeat her in Rune Level 1 plays. Also because of that I overlooked the potential of some unique R2 attacks from Straight Swords like the Miquellan one to the point where I just realized recently on how fun the Miquellan Sword R2 actually is to use
Some areas in Elden Ring feel like one team was making the enemies, another team was responsible for placing them, and the two teams had zero communication
Something I just thought of but wouldn’t by your logic during the volcano manor quest line the one assassination that takes you into the capital there also have been considered part of that legacy dungeon therefore able to be used in the capital?
the envoy's longhorn it's honestly OP against half the bossfights, just not the ones that dodge a lot like Loretta. I even killed Placidussax before he could even start phase 2 cause the bubbles hit him multiple times as they fly through him (just don't lock on and stick to his side) and that was without the bubble-boosting headgear
You were surprised about the whip being able to stagger leonine misbegotten, but that thing (and whips in general) has some seriously shocking stagger lmao. When I first tried out a whip in my game it was staggering Omens, and from that point on I was sold on them as a weapon type. The damage and speed aint great but they’re real fun to use as an offhand weapon for zoning out enemies.
crucible horns are absolutely busted against humanoid enemies, if you fully charge it they get flung into the air and you can sometimes stunlock them its also good for stance breaking
Man the new light roll is so good. Wish that was around the first time I fought Malenia. Maybe wouldn’t have taken me 70+ attempts to beat her (I refused to use bloodhound step) 😂
I believe the thing with aspect of the horn crucible spell is that it lift human-sized enemies off the ground and throw them. So I assume it won't be that useful against giant bosses.
I really like the bolt of gransax but I never want to fight the valiant gargoyles with it again It constantly hits between the legs causing you to miss That fight destroyed me
