This was the first time I watched a stream where Thab got genuinely frustrated. It felt really good to see him prevail at the end. Lesser men would have quit.
Omg ok so I grew up with this game, have put in probably several hundred hours over my lifetime, and I can shed light on quite a number of the things presented in this video. First off, the secret characters are absolutely real, and unlocking Ichiro and War Mech is actually very easy, you just have to make a circle with the C buttons on the intro screen. To unlock Grendal, you just have to make it past The Executioner and you can access him by highlighting The Executioner on the character select screen and holding down start. As for unlocking Pojo, the chicken that Taria transforms you into as part of her execution, I don't remember off the top of my head tbh. Frankly not worth it anyways except for the novelty. This game was indeed fairly popular as an arcade game, I remember seeing it in a cabinet at my local bowling alley growing up. And as an arcade game, it does not make full use of the N64 controller. A and B do the same thing (quick), C left and C down do the same thing (strong), and C up and C right do the same thing (kick). Every single character has a special attack that's activated by hitting both quick and strong at the same time, which is a fairly easy button combination to press, and most characters’ quick/strong are quite good as go-to attacks. You can do some real damage by just spamming that attack with most characters. It seems like you figured this out at some point during your playthrough, but you can block attacks by just moving backwards. It's extremely valuable. I very highly recommend playing as Ragnar, he is an excellent combination of strength and speed, as you can plainly tell by how well the AI plays him. His bull rush attack is easy to execute and very powerful. Personally though, Xiao Long was always my favorite to play, his speed is incredibly valuable against slower but more powerful characters like Lord Deimos. However, the way my siblings and I first beat Asmodeus was by using War Mech, and spamming his quick/strong until the timer ran out. We didn't manage this until years after we got the game, which just goes to show how incredibly difficult of a game it is. However, I did go on to be able to actually kill Asmodeus, and with a variety of characters at that (I remember for sure Xiao Long, Takeshi, and Ragnar, but probably also Grendal as I recall playing him for a while). Personally, I would have given you a pass for setting the difficulty to easy on this one lmao. Spoiler alert: if you have a second controller attached to your console, you are not actually capped by credits. If you hit start on the second controller during a single player game, it becomes a two-player game, and you can do so after you die but before your credits are decremented to cheat extra credits into a run, and then whoever wins the two-player game gets to continue the run where you left it off.
I love these random N64 back shelf titles that have a fan base of like 30 people worldwide but those fans are so diehard they could write the game code out with Spaghetti-O noodles
I played through my twenties, and the skeleton shield bash can beat most opponents. There’s also a few combo lock outs, like the double axe guy can permanently stun an opponent with bash, roll, repeat.
once you have performed taria's execution to turn someone into pojo, you can go on taria and hold start to see pojo and select him. As for Ichiro and the mech guy, i remember rotating the joy stick during the open screen to unlock them.
Doesn't matter to me if it takes you 2 weeks or 2 months to release a new episode... I'm happy to see each one, even if I don't care about the game. This is an awesome feat and life takes time!
It would be one thing if he was beating a game then it taking a while to get the video done. It’s a completely different thing when you are like 100 games ahead of the videos because you don’t want to do the work. He’s just being ridiculous and procrastinating the part he doesn’t like.
We didn't really think anything of it at the time -- the only other games we had to reference for game design were arcade games, which naturally installed timers as a way to push quarters. So when our first home consoles had games with timers, we thought "oh, yeah."
@@banzaisdead For online multiplayer, maybe. For when you were playing with your friends sitting on the same couch, not really. But it's not as if it's a big problem, just a small silly nostalgic detail that shows a bit of immaturity in porting from arcade games.
It finally happened. The game I've been hoping you'd randomly get sooner or later has been thrust upon you. One of my favourite games growing up but I can imagine it'll be a baffling annoyance to anyone playing it who isn't a football fan and who was familiar with it back in the day. Enjoy!
I like how you didn't even kill or knock out the end boss, but then it's like "Anyway, you drink the bad guys blood from his severed head" or whatever. So, did this super powerful demon just go "judges say you win, so i guess just go ahead and murder me and drink my blood". I suppose that makes him lawful evil?
One thing you can often do in older fighting games where the AI learns your attack patterns like this one is learn 4 or 5 different cheesy spams, and continually alternate between them
The secret characters are easy to get, i still remember it. To get the first 2 you only have to turn the control stick on the copyright screen at the start of the game(2 turns), to get Grendal you have to defeat 5 characters as the executioner and then hold start on him on the character select screen(you can beat them in vs mode) to get pojo you have to do Taria's execution and then hold start on her in the character select screen. NED is just an skin for xiao long
Beating the games is not what has caused delay on the uploads, since live progress is quite ahead of youtube vids, the thing that has caused delays is the editing process, since Thab has been having some troubles in that regard
I went on holiday from the UK to Florida in the late 90s. Because of the currency conversion rate at the time, it was really cheap to buy games in the US, so I was allowed to buy one game and it was Mace the Dark Age. Also bought a US to UK adaptor for the N64 so it would work on my PAL machine. It's a good game, especially as fighting games on the N64 are not common. Its a very hard game though.
al'rashid is until this very day the most realistic and gruesome fatality ever conceived in game history. it's brutal and impactful. (and lord deimos' fataly is the most "ouch" of the game, sadly you didn't showed it in the video)
Wow… instant flashbacks to my childhood. I loved this game. My dad had 2 other brothers so there was stacks of all games. We use to just sit and play these games for DAAAAYS
I had this game 😂 Picked it up for like $5 at a flea market in the early 2000s. Wasn't a big fan of it and never wound up beating it. Good on ya for getting through it!
This man is putting some hard work in i subbed just because of that weve all scrolled that n64 rom list like yea mabye ill just play through zelda or mario again for the hundreth time
Omg I loved this game. I owned a ton of n64 games and I was probably your age when I played this. It's cool to see a young person experienceing these classic games. Warms my heart with nostalgia. Great content keep it up. Midway had some bangers on this system. Can't wait to see you play War Gods.
Gotta commend you on sticking with the random game selection. To have Zelda so close and stick with a soccer league manager game has gotta suck. Don't worry we'll all keep watching and waiting.
The N64, contrary to what the Sony/SEGA Hive mind says, has a bunch of pretty good fighing games...MK4, Fighters Destiny, Mace, SmashBros, Killer Instinct,,,,,
"It was hard to hit her." Spams the exact same thing over and over with out even trying to time it or counter her dodge. Hmm a mystery what the problem there was.
This video has everything you ask from a fighting game video. Player growth interesting discovery "Pick a Top Tier" Boss Fight Nonsense Boss Fight Cheese Bravo! If you dove into a game/the genre, I bet you'd be better at Fighting Games than you give yourself credit for.
Next time you get stuck on a fighting game, see if you can change the behavior of the training dummy. That can help you learn how to counterattack or open up a blocking opponent.
You have to finish this with every character for the real ending. And yes the special characters are real. Don't worry though, you have done enough, I wouldn't ever subject you to the agony of completing the game with every character.
