Shootouts are only in the regular season, and they didn’t start until after the lockout in 2005. It used to be 4 on 4 for 5 minutes and then the game just finished in a tie if no one scored. Playoffs had to have a winner so the games just continued until someone scored.

Chandler was actually the announcer's son. His parental neglect caused a rift between him and his wife. She divorced him and took full custody of Chandler and the house in the divorce. He now lives alone in a crappy apartment, because it's all he can afford due the child support and alimony. His life has gone to shit. Which is why the announcer is a shell of his former self.

to be fair to some of the "sim" games like this one and breakaway 98, a lot of fans play them for season mode. and from what I remember from playing them back then, the breakaway games had some of the best player growth for all hockey sim games if you created your own player to take through season mode. and i think one of the first games where you could fire/hire coaches that could train up or give different attribute bonuses to your players/team.

I think the reason that fighting is allowed, is that its safer to let players fight with fists, than to try to "get even" or otherwise right any perceived wrongs during gameplay. The sport is too dangerous in an of itself, so fighting with fists is about the safest thing going on out there.

@PaulGaither Год назад
Fighting in hockey is somewhat condoned because it has been a longstanding tradition in the sport, dating back to its origins. In the early days of hockey, fighting was not only allowed but was often seen as a way for players to settle disputes on the ice. Over time, fighting has become more regulated, with the introduction of penalties and suspensions for players who engage in fights. However, it is still seen by many as a way to police the game and protect players from dirty hits or dangerous plays. While fighting is not explicitly allowed in hockey, it is also not explicitly prohibited, unlike in other sports such as football or baseball. Referees are instructed to break up fights as soon as possible, but they also have some discretion in deciding when to step in. In some cases, they may allow a fight to continue if they believe it will diffuse a tense situation or prevent further violence on the ice. It's worth noting that not everyone in the hockey community condones fighting. Many people believe that it is a dangerous and unnecessary part of the game that should be eliminated. However, fighting remains a part of hockey culture, and it is likely to continue to be so for the foreseeable future.

"I've always found it weird that fighting is normalized in hockey" You're not the only one. The QMJHL (one of the three major junior leagues in Canada) recently banned it completely and old-time hockey fans are losing their minds over it. Over the past 20 years or so fighting has dramatically declined in the NHL, though. There used to be at least one fight every game - now it's common to go multiple games without any fights. Thank god. As a hockey fan, I watch hockey for hockey. If I wanted to watch fighting, I'd watch UFC or boxing.

About the Canadiens' name: They are called the "Canadiens", with the French spelling for two reasons; First, because they were originally the only team in the province of Québec (ironically the team you played as, the Avalanche, was prior to 1996 the 2nd Québec team and actually my hometown team, the Québec (City) Nordiques). The Québecois were the original settlers of Canada and the term "Canadiens" was used to refer to French-Canadians living in the "Province of Canada" which is analogous to the modern province of Québec. The Canadiens' nickname, the "Habs", is short for "Habitants", the French word for "settlers" or "colonists". It's a light pejorative used back then by English-Canadians to refer to the Québecois. They are also called Canadiens as it's the abbreviation of their old name, the "Club de Hockey Canadien". The two "C"s and the "H" that constitute the logo actually stand for that name. And yeah, especially now that we have a fully-capable NHL arena in Quebec City, we also wonder why the Coyotes aren't dead and moved. Although we all know why. Bettman would rather see them bankrupt than admit his Arizona gamble failed. And he'd rather die than see a team return to Québec.
